Aldis Hodge Joins DC’s Black Adam Movie as Hawkman
While the Justice League is reassembling over on HBO Max, another DC Comics super-team is making its way to the big screen. As star Dwayne Johnson revealed last month during the DC FanDome event, the forthcoming Black Adam movie will feature the Justice Society of America. Now come reports that Aldis Hodge has been recruited to be the group’s Hawkman. The Hollywood Reporter has it that the One Night in Miami and The Invisible Man actor has been cast as the high-flying hero in Black Adam. Hodge joins the previously announced Noah Centineo, who’s playing Atom Smasher, as well as Johnson in the titular role. Clap if you believe in fairies: Yara Shahidi has been cast as Tinkerbell in the new live-action Disney remake Peter Pan & Wendy. Shahidi is best-known for playing Zoey Johnson on Black-ish and its spinoff, Grown-ish. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, she joins a cast that includes Jude Law as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony as Peter, and Ever Anderson as Wendy. The film is co-written and directed by David Lowery, who earned Disney’s trust for his work on Pete’s Dragon. It’s said to be based on the 1953 animated film, which is itself adapted from J.M. Alamo Drafthouse Patrons Can Rent an Entire Theater to Watch Movies with Friends
Indoor spaces are still a high-risk area during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It’s an unfortunate reality that has already cost the film industry $20 billion this year, despite some theaters choosing to reopen this summer and others suing for not being able to. But now, Alamo Drafthouse has a new workaround option that falls squarely in the middle: rent an entire theater for yourself! According to Entertainment Weekly, the beloved Texas-based theater chain is allowing patrons to rent out an entire theater for themselves — as well as “their pandemic pod family and friends” — for $150. John Cena’s The Suicide Squad Character Peacemaker Gets HBO Max Spinoff
Before the character even makes his big screen debut, John Cena’s Peacemaker from The Suicide Side has been given a TV spinoff. Deadline reports that HBO Max has picked up Peacemaker for an eight-episode, straight-to-series order. Cena will reprise his role, while The Suicide Squad writer-director James Gunn will also make the streaming transition. He’ll write the series and direct a number of episodes, as well as executive produce alongside fellow The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran. Cena will co-executive produce. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mouse House is pushing back both Black Widow and West Side Story way, way into 2021 because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Scarlett Johansson’s blockbuster will go from November 6th to May 7th, 2021. If you’re keeping tabs, that’s more than a full year removed from its pre-Covid release date of May 1st, 2020.
