Amazon regularly keeps a list of its top-selling items broken down into categories throughout the year. One list in particular that grabs people’s attention is the list focusing on the best-selling video game, and like in 2020, Nintendo once again dominated. Nintendo Switch Shortages Will Most Likely Extend Into 2022

Unfortunately for those looking to grab hold of a Nintendo Switch, it now seems that supply shortages will last until at least early 2022. According to Japanese news outlet Kyoto Shimbun, the gaming giant’s president Shuntaro Furukawa was quoted as saying that the ongoing semiconductor shortage, compiled with severe logistical delays across the globe, will likely continue to affect production and deliveries of new Switch devices through till the end of the year and beyond, potentially extending into the first few months of 2022. He hasn’t given any projections beyond that time frame, but given that the two factors affecting the console are out of the company’s control, it’s possible Nintendo could fall victim to even further delays. Riot Games Will Pay $100 Million USD To Settle Harassment Lawsuit

Riot Games, the publisher of video game titles including League of Legends, will settle a 2018 lawsuit filed by former female employees for $100 million USD. Two former female employees allege in the suit that the company engaged in unequal pay and sexual harassment. Prior to this, gaming website Kotaku published a report detailing negative employee experiences within the company. In a press release, California’s Department of Fair Employment & Housing (DFEH) wrote that the company had agreed to pay $100 million USD and committed to systemic reforms “to resolve allegations of workplace sex discrimination and harassment.” The suit covers violations made against “approximately 1,065 women employees and 1,300 women contract workers.” “The decree requires comprehensive injunctive relief in...

‘Alan Wake’ Developer Joins Tencent for Free-to-Play Co-Op Shooter

Alan Wake and Control developer Remedy Entertainment is now teaming up with Chinese gaming giant Tencent to create a new, free-to-play shooter. Currently codenamed Vanguard, the upcoming title will focus on a co-operative PvE experience with a narrative element directed by Remedy itself. The game is currently in the proof-of-concept phase and boasts a budget of a typical AAA game that, for the time being, will continue through to its first year of live operations. It’ll utilize the Unreal Engine and be available on both PC and consoles, with Tencent localizing the game for the Asia region while Remedy is responsible for its launch elsewhere on the globe. Development of ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Delayed Until End of 2022 Due to COVID-19

Final Fantasy XVI producers Square Enix have officially confirmed that they will be delaying the project. Information regarding the next chapter of the long-awaited RPG series was initially promised to arrive by the end of 2021, however, development of the game has been slowed due to COVID-19. For CES 2022, XPG (Xtreme Performance Gear), gaming hardware and accessories product line of the Taiwanese memory and storage manufacturer ADATA, revealed an inventive concept mouse. Dubbed the “XPG Vault Gaming Mouse,” the wired USB-C mouse features a high-speed 1TB SSD built-in. Japan Is Opening Its First Esports High School

A first-of-its-kind high school for esports will be opening in Tokyo’s Shibuya district this April, Kotaku reported. The institution is called Esports Koutou Gakuin, which translates to Esport High School. The school is funded by the esports outfit of Japanese telecom company NTT and the Japanese soccer club Tokyo Verdy. The staff will be made up of industry professionals from both NTT and Tokyo Verdy and professional esports players. Enrolled students will have access to an elite gaming setup rigged with 40 Galleria XA7C-R37 PCs with Intel Core i7-11700 and outfitted with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards, according to Kotaku.
