PlayStation owners will now get to test out the alpha version of Call of Duty: Vanguard this weekend completely for free. Beginning on August 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and ending at the same time on August 29, both PlayStation 4 and 5 players will be able to access the upcoming installment’s alpha phase for the full 48 hours. According to the announcement, gamers will take on Sledgehammer Games’ innovative new multiplayer mode called Champion Hill. Spanning across all four theaters of war in World War II, Call of Duty: Vanguard will bring players all across the Eastern Front, Western Front, North Africa and Pacific, with a traditional campaign mode follow four separate characters. With less than two months before its release, Nintendo has now uploaded a new trailer for the upcoming Switch 2D platform shooter Metroid Dread detailing some of its story elements. Featured above, the almost two-minute clip explains that seven multiform mobile identifier robots were dispatched to a planet in order to curtail the revival of a parasitic lifeform called X Parasite. However, upon arrival, all seven droids disappeared, and now Samus has taken on the mission to investigate exactly what happened to the robots and to stop the parasitic invasion. Functioning as a handheld PC, the Steam Deck runs on a customized AMD chip coupled with built-in storage ranging from 64GB to 512GB. The Call of Duty League will be giving away a select number of beta codes for Call of Duty: Vanguard in a sweepstake during the 2021 League Championship Weekend final next weekend. Although the beta’s official launch date has not yet been announced, fans watching the game will have a chance to secure one of 25,000 early-access codes to Vanguard. Additionally, each winner will receive an extra beta code to share with a friend. Someone has just managed to successfully copyright his own Magic: The Gathering deck of cards. According to reports, an assistant professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Michigan and known legal provocateur by the name of Dr. Robert Hovden copyrighted his own personal deck of cards. The story broke from journalist Cory Doctorow, who revealed that Hovden’s filing at the United States Copyright Office was successful, but raised a number of concerns for other players within the Magic: The Gathering world. “Hovden’s public communications around this tease that he may prohibit others from using this deck in tournament play, and says it’s all about ‘owning culture and people’s participation in culture through copyright,’” wrote Doctorow.
