Blockchain gaming is only four years old — a toddler compared to the rest of the industry. It has a lot of growing up to do, particularly when it comes to play-to-earn games. I’m a 28-year game industry veteran. I’ve produced 32 titles in that period of time on everything from Sega Genesis to Oculus Rift. Some of them were great. Many were forgettable. I didn’t hear much chatter about blockchain gaming from traditional developers and players until Axie Infinity began to take off. Cut to the peak of 2021, and the game had nearly 2 million players logging on daily. Most people outside the crypto community at the time were (and still are) extremely skeptical about blockchain’s ability to add anything meaningful to games. They see Axie as an example of the low production values and...

Microsoft Claims Sony Has Better Exclusives in Latest Plea to the UK

Consolidation is the latest trend in the gaming industry as Microsoft and Sony continue to duke it out in their long-running “console war.” Following the launch of each company’s respective next-generation console, both have had their eyes on gaming studios small and large as they seek to outdo their competition. The largest move thus far has been the attempted acquisition of one of the world’s largest gaming corporations, Activision Blizzard, for an unprecedented $68.7 billion USD. However, antitrust law in the United Kingdom via its Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has put a hold on this buyout. Previously, Microsoft made the much-contested claim that Activision Blizzard has no “must have” games in its repertoire. To which, Sony was quick to rebut by claiming the bestselling ...

Microsoft Reported to Offer Sony ‘Call Of Duty’ for 10 Years
