Fiona Apple Pens New Song “New York Doesn’t Like Your Face” For Apple TV’s Central Park: Stream
As reported in May, Apple TV’s new animated series Central Park features music from Fiona Apple, Cyndi Lauper, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, and more. Apple specifically contributed to the show’s upcoming season one finale, “A Fish Called Snakehead”. In anticipation of that episode, her song, titled “New York Doesn’t Like Your Face”, is being shared today. Apple co-wrote the piece with David Lucky, a friend, composer, and collaborator whom she’s previously described as “one of my favorite people in the world.” The track itself is sung by Central Park character Ashley, voiced by the six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald. Naya Rivera, the Grammy-nominated singer and Glee actress, was pronounced dead on Monday at the age of 33. Her body was recovered in Lake Piru in Ventura Country, California on Monday, five days after she first went missing. With a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Josh Gad, and Dame Judi Dench, and esteemed director Kenneth Branagh behind the camera, what could go wrong? What Went Wrong: Well, just about everything. The one mercy of Artemis Fowl is that it’s short, clocking in at just 94 minutes including its end credits. Unfortunately, that gives Branagh and credited screenwriters Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl plenty of time to create confusing character motivations, half-assed attempts at emotional gravitas, and stabs at humor that are best left unsaid or unseen.
