Manchester United open contract talks with Paul Pogba

Manchester United have contacted Paul Pogba’s representatives over a new contract, reports Sky Sports. Pogba returned to Man Utd in 2016 for a then-world record fee from Juventus. Since then, he has played 199 times in all competitions, scoring 38 goals. Pogba’s time at Man Utd has been mixed The Frenchman has been a divisive figure since his reunion with the Red Devils. Inconsistent performances, coupled with ambiguous hints surrounding his future, have seen him become unpopular among some sections of the Old Trafford crowd. Nonetheless, there is no denying his incredible talent. And, with just a year left on his current contract, it would be a nightmare for the club to lose a player like him on a free transfer. Sky Sports state that Man Utd have now opened negotiations with Pogba over a ...

Barcelona midfielder open to staying at club to fight for his place next season

Miralem Pjanic has refused to rule out the possibility of staying at Barcelona next season while speaking to Marca, despite experiencing a disastrous first year at the club. The Bosnia & Herzegovina international left Juventus for Camp Nou in a transfer worth €60million last summer, with Arthur Melo heading the opposite direction as part of a coordinated swap deal. However, neither player has managed to live up to expectations, especially Pjanic, who recorded just six La Liga starts under Ronald Koeman in 2020/21. The 31-year-old has found himself bottom of the pecking order in the Spanish club, with Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Illaix Moriba all enjoying more playing time than him. Following a lacklustre season-long stint at Barcelona, the ex-Roma playmaker could be goi...

Manchester United preparing £39 million bid for Atalanta defender

Manchester United are set to bid £39million for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero. Atalanta are reportedly planning to make Romero’s loan from Juventus permanent for £21.5m before cashing in on his services. But according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta will take up an option in the 23-year-old’s loan deal to sign him permanently. The fee is believed to be £21.5m – but some rumours suggest it could be as low as £13.75m. Reports claim the Serie A side will then look to sell Romero for €45m – around £39m – and make a huge profit. And Man United are said to be leading the race for the Argentina international’s signature. Romero has been one of Atalanta’s best players this term, making 31 Serie A appearances to help them finish third and qualify for next season’s Champio...

PSG open talks with Juventus for Cristiano Ronaldo

Paris Saint-Germain have made a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, reports Spanish publication AS. Ronaldo has been at Juventus for three seasons now, signing for €100 million from Real Madrid in 2018. It was hoped that his arrival would be the final piece in the puzzle as the Bianconeri looked to win the Champions League for the first time since 1996. However, this has not worked out, and they have failed to get past the quarter-finals in that time frame. Ronaldo has continued to score goals in Italy Despite this, Ronaldo has continued to produce the goals. In his 133 appearances in Turin, the Portuguese has netted 101 goals, winning the Serie A Golden Boot last season. His goals have helped the club to two league titles and a Coppa Italia. Juventus have just re-appointed former manager Massimil...

Ronaldo’s next home: Manchester United, Real Madrid or elsewhere?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is likely to be a main topic of discussion this summer with his contract with Juventus due to expire in 13 months. The Portuguese had another top individual campaign for the Bianconeri with 36 goals in all competitions, but it was not sufficient to extend their Serie A dominance. After nine straight league titles, the club were outclassed by Inter Milan in the race for the Scudetto. The Nerazzurri finished 13 points ahead of them at the top. Elsewhere, they only booked their Champions League spot for next season on the final matchday, courtesy of Napoli dropping points against Hellas Verona (1-1 draw). Since the end of the season, the hierarchy have made big changes with the decision to part ways with CEO Fabio Paratici and manager Andrea Pirlo. Massimiliano Alle...

UEFA supremo: Barcelona, Real Madrid & Juventus ‘paralysed themselves’ with ‘strange’ Super League approach

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus have “paralysed themselves” with their “strange” approach to the Super League, according to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. A controversial proposal for a new competition to rival the Champions League was met with universal condemnation in April, leading to the withdrawal of nine of the original 12 founding clubs. The Super League plans were subsequently put on hold, but Barca, Real and Juve have vowed to continue pushing for change despite being threatened with serious sanctions by UEFA, who are in the process of investigating their involvement in the breakaway. The three remaining clubs released a statement criticising European football’s main governing body last week, which read: “FC Barcelona, Juventus FC and Real Madrid CF wish to express their a...

PSG president: Super League didn’t have the interests of football at heart

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says the Super League project was not in football’s best interests, insisting the Champions League must be protected. PSG were not among the 12 founding members of the competition, which pledged to break away from UEFA and compete with or replace the Champions League. The plan collapsed within days of its announcement, as football’s governing bodies and fan protests convinced nine clubs to pull out and Al-Khelaifi believes football is better off without the controversial idea. “Football has been around for years and years. The Super League did not have at heart to defend the interests of football,” he told AFP. “You can envisage changes but not break the tradition that every club can hope to achieve their dreams. “All teams must have the opp...

Ex-Fiorentina defender: Victor Osimhen will perform under new boss

Former Fiorentina defender, Vittorio Tosto, is convinced that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen can power Napoli to glory under newly appointed manager Luciano Spalletti. Spalletti, a former Inter Milan coach, was named the boss of the Parthenopeans, days after Gennaro Gattuso left the role following a disappointing end to the campaign. Gattuso was a key factor behind Osimhen’s decision to quit Lille for the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last summer, with the club parting with a club-record fee of over €70 million. But injuries and coronavirus-related problems limited the attacker to 30 games across all competitions. The Super Eagles forward managed to find the back of the net ten times and provided three assists as Napoli missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the ...

Manchester City willing to break £100 million barrier to sign Aston Villa skipper

Manchester City are willing to break the £100m barriers to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. The Daily Mail says Grealish has long been admired by Pep Guardiola and City’s manager wants the 25-year-old at the hub of what he hopes he will become the second great team of his reign in Manchester. Villa rewarded Grealish last September with a lucrative new contract and the club captain still has four years to run on his deal. His importance to Dean Smith’s side is huge and, as such, they would not entertain selling their local hero for anything less than a new British transfer record. City have not had the most expensive player in the Premier League since they signed Robinho for £32.5m at the start of the Abu Dhabi era in September 2008 but there is recognition that recruiting Grealish w...

Juventus have officially announced the return of Massimiliano Allegri as head coach at the Allianz Stadium. ‘We are ready to build our future together’. Andrea Pirlo only lasted for one year as coach of the Bianconeri, as Juventus have officially announced the return of Allegri, who left in 2019. “Massimiliano Allegri is the Juventus coach again,” Juventus wrote in a statement. “Allegri finds a bench he knows very well, a club that he loves and that loves him, to start a new journey together today, towards new targets. “Those achieved in his first adventure with Juventus are engraved in the history of the club: five Scudetti, four consecutive doubles with the Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italiana, two Champions League Finals in three seasons, epic feats in Italy and in Europe. “And then we...
