Rob Zombie, Korn, Staind, and More Announced for July 2021 US Rock Festivals
Organizers of two major US rock festivals are counting on a relative return to normal this summer, officially announcing the lineups for Wisconsin’s Rock Fest and Michigan’s Upheaval Festival today (March 31st). Rob Zombie, Korn, Staind, and Chevelle are among the bands set to play both fests, while the bigger Rock Fest will also feature Limp Bizkit, Snoop Dogg, Danzig, and more — provided that the events are able to go off as scheduled. Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin is a long-running annual event, while Upheaval in Grand Rapids, Michigan was supposed to stage its inaugural festival last year. New York Music Venues Can Reopen at 33% Capacity Starting April 2
The news comes as the music industry approaches the one-year anniversary of the pandemic-imposed shutdown on live events. A year ago this week, on March 6, 2020, Austin’s South By Southwest was forced to cancel for the first time in its history, and by the end of the month, physical events nationwide shut down entirely. Cuomo also sightly cut back limitations on gatherings in New York starting March 22. Residential gatherings of up to 25 people can be held outdoors, while indoor residential gatherings remain capped to 10 people. Non-residential social gatherings of up to 100 people can occur indoors, and up to 200 people outdoors. Consumer Interest in Paid Livestreams Surging, According to New Data
Over the course of the last three months (July 1-Sept. 30), engagement with IRL events has remained steady (up 4%, comparing engagement from the month of September to that of July) and interactions with free livestreams has declined (down 26%). In the same tracking period, ticket clicks on paid livestreams has risen by 577%. In July, ticket clicks on paid livestreams accounted for 3.3% of all activity on Bandsintown, at just 70,136 clicks, compared to 1.54 million on IRL events and 485,000 on free livestreams. That percentage leapt to 12.6% in August and then to 19.5% in September, stretching July’s 70,000 count to 475,057 ticket clicks.
