Jason Ross and Seven Lions to Take Over Insomniac TV in “The Atlas” Livestream

Jason Ross is taking his mix show “The Atlas” to the airwaves of Insomniac TV for a special livestream this coming week. Ross’ frequent collaborator Seven Lions will be making an appearance with him during the event. Seven Lions’ Ophelia Records imprint has become a home to Ross, who has released multiple singles and his debut album 1000 Faces on the label. The two have also made lightning strike twice with their hit collaborations “Ocean” in 2018 and their sweeping electro-trance hybrid single “Known You Before” a year later. It’s been a momentous year for Ross, whose 2020 debut album landed him on the shortlist of promising producers to watch. The multi-genre artist began making a spectacle of his music discovery process with the adve...

IDLES Cover The Strokes, The Beatles, Ramones During Abbey Road Livestream: Watch

IDLES took over Abbey Road Studios for a three-part livestream this past weekend. Coming in support of their forthcoming full-length, Ultra Mono, the sets featured a bevy of new tracks — including singles “Model Village”, “A Hymn”, “Mr. Motivator”, and “Grounds” — in addition to past favorites like “Colossus”, “I’m Scum”, and “Never Fight a Man with a Perm”. The Bristol post punks also tucked in a few covers, including takes on The Beatles, The Strokes, and The Ramones. First came their dirge-y rendition of The Ramones’ classic “I Wanna Be Sedated”. Smoldering in its own sedation, the cover saw a psychedelic war wage between guitarist Mark Bown and bassist Adam Devonshire. Set No. 2 brought IDLES’ ripping version of The Strokes’ “Reptilia”. The band kept the melody largely intact, but scra...

Philip Anselmo Honors Dimebag and Vinnie Paul During Down’s NOLA 25th Anniversary Livestream Show: Watch

Down played their first show in four years over the weekend, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, NOLA, with a livestream concert dubbed “Quarter Century Throwdown”. During the set, filmed at an undisclosed venue in New Orleans, singer Philip Anselmo paid tribute to his fallen Pantera bandmates Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The 15-song concert, which streamed for $9 on Saturday (August 29th), saw Down perform all of 1995’s NOLA (except for the instrumental track “Pray for the Locust”) and three songs from 2002’s Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow. It also marked the live return of founding member Kirk Windstein, who had parted ways with the band in 2013 before rejoining the group late last year. Prior to performing “Lifer”, Anselmo dedicated the song “to all the bands ...

Yaeji to Share Special Livestreamed Boiler Room Set

The cancellation and postponement of many tours worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic has left both fans and artists alike feeling a bit empty. Luckily, livestream performances have come to the rescue to somewhat satiate those cravings for a live music experience. And thankfully, those looking forward to catching a livestreamed set from Yaeji will be able to do so this week.  The Korean-American rising electronic star has announced via Instagram that she will be performing a special Boiler Room set, titled “Yaeji In Place.” “When all of this year’s touring was postponed, I felt a bit lost, not being able to see you all in person and share a new set,” Yaeji said. With that notion in mind, she promises something extra special for viewers.  &#...

Geofenced Streams Could Lead to Virtual Concert Tours

Haitian DJ Michael Brun is experimenting with a way to help artists earn additional revenue during the worldwide live music shutdown. Rather than perform as a part of a large livestreamed festival, he’s exploring a new method for artists to limit their audience to fans in a particular area—geofencing. By hosting geofenced livestreams, artists can host shows specifically in one city and justify admission based on the fact that it’s an exclusive performance. When speaking with the Deccan Chronicle, Brun stated that he will be treating each city on his experimental virtual tour to exclusive setlists and stage production. This opens the door for other artists to follow in his footsteps and embark on virtual concert tours from the comfort and safety of their homes or studi...

Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen Debuts New Song, Plays “Saint Nothing” on Livestream: Watch

On Friday night, everyone from Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold to The War on Drugs participated in the Vote Ready, a Concert for Voter Registration livestream. While most of the sets were filled with comforting covers and stripped-down renditions of classics, a few artists used the opportunity to debut new material, including Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles singer-guitarist Daniel Rossen. Rossen played two tracks in total, opening with the nameless new song. The six-minute-long number saw the virtuoso churning out gorgeous, acoustic, classical guitar melodies that change pace and mood throughout. Afterwards, he immediately turned to the piano to play his 2012 ballad “Saint Nothing”. Watch the full set below. Last year, Rossen published an essay on his website explaining his slow retreat ...
