48 Beauty Products Editors Love Enough to Spend Their Own Money On

Full disclosure: As editors, we get to try products for free sometimes. (And if you’re a beauty editor, that turns out to be all the time.) It’s certainly a perk, but it would also be quite hard to write beauty stories without actually trying the items being discussed. Even though we try new products often and may not necessarily need another sunscreen, for example, sometimes, we get so hooked on something that we feel inclined to go out and buy it. Other times, we’ll buy something simply based on word of mouth or reviews. Below, a handful of Who What Wear beauty and fashion editors divulged to me the products they use that are worthy of buying for themselves. I also included the ones I’m always replenishing myself and don’t know what ...

These Are the 17 Products Makeup Artists Swear By

Don’t get me wrong. I love makeup. But recently, I have felt a little wronged by so many of the brands that I swear by. You see, as a beauty editor, it can be really easy to get lost in the results of a product without taking into account the price of it. Recently, I stumbled across an old favourite foundation, so I hooked it back out and started wearing it again. I started receiving compliments on my Zoom calls and FaceTime chats with friends and recommending the base to anyone who would listen. It wasn’t until a close girlfriend texted me the following that I realised something needed to be done: “Why have you just spent 10 minutes selling me on a foundation that costs £60? I just went to buy it, and I feel wronged. I was expecting it to be £8.” You Deserve to Make Money Even W...

The Exact Makeup Products Used on the Set of Bridgerton Season 2

Alas, I could find no clue whatsoever about what products were used. That was until last week, when I had an email from makeup artist Pat McGrath’s team to say she had a major announcement. Major indeed. This season, all of the products used on the entire cast of Bridgerton (there are over 140 of them) came courtesy of Pat McGrath Labs. And to be honest, it kind of made sense. I already know that Pat McGrath Labs products are the crème de la crème, so it was no major surprise to learn that the Bridgerton looks I was so taken aback by came from the brand. As I sat down on a Zoom call listening to McGrath in conversation with Ökvist and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, I found myself taking actual handwritten notes. So if you fell in love with the Bridgerton beauty look just like I did,...

Celebrity Beauty Brands Are So Not My Thing, But This One Really Surprised Me

If I see one more celebrity launch a beauty brand, I just might lose it. The beauty market is notoriously saturated, and another brand launched by a celebrity that has no beauty know-how is simply not what an already-confused consumer needs. But while the market is severely saturated, it is equally lucrative, making it an absolute cash cow for celebrities who want to diversify their entrepreneurial offerings and make some quick, easy money in the form of a skincare, makeup or haircare line. For the most part, celebrity beauty brands prove to be a bit of a flop. Of course, when they are first announced, they generate a huge buzz, but when the consumer gets to grips with the (typically) white-labelled goods and realises it’s not the magic product they thought it would be, sale...

I’m a Makeup Artist, and This Is the Skin-Loving Foundation I Now Swear By

Kelly Dawn before applying Clinique Even Better™ Clinical Serum Foundation. Prep is key to achieving a professional-looking finish to your foundation, and Dawn always recommends doing this with skincare products. Luckily, the Clinique Even Better Clinical™ Serum Foundation SPF 20 is enriched with skin-smoothing salicylic acid, vitamin C to even tone and SPF 20, which will help to streamline and simplify your routine. For Dawn, the true magic of this foundation lies in its versatility, and she has plenty of advice on how to tailor the coverage to achieve a personalised, professional-looking finish. “The formula is very opaque, so a little goes a long way. You can use half a pump and just blend it over the areas where you want it for a lightweight look, while a full ...

These 15 New Beauty Products Are What Every Editor Is Raving About

One of the best things about my job is, obviously, the beauty products. Yes, I sometimes get frustrated with them for a multitude of reasons, but show me a loving relationship without a little up and down, and I wouldn’t believe it was real! You can always rely on new beauty releases to send a buzz through the beauty industry. With its constant evolution and innovation, the beauty industry is an exciting place. Things like new formulations, new technologies and new ingredients all keep beauty consumers forever on their toes. Even new packaging can be enough to warrant a fancy dinner event or celebrity-promo circuit. So with the new season comes an inevitable host of new beauty releases. Not all are born equal, of course, but it is very apt timing considering I’m about...

I Don’t Trust Anything I See on TikTok, But This Concealer Really Is Magic

I would also like to caveat here that not only is TikTok-recommended beauty not my thing, but neither is KVD Beauty as a brand. I like chic, luxe, svelte makeup, the sort that sparks the same kind of joy as a luxury handbag. KVD Beauty is none of that. It’s clearly aimed at a slightly younger audience and champions an almost gimmicky aesthetic. I have used some of the products before and liked the results but they’ve never stuck around in my routine.  When I first tried Good Apple Concealer, I already had some understanding of what the results would look like thanks to the countless TikToks I had seen—creamy, easy to blend and seriously full coverage. As someone with quite incessant acne scarring and in-your-face dark circles, I feel somewhat qualified to say that I really do know qui...

I Can’t Get Enough of Clean-Girl Beauty, So I Tried It Out for An Entire Week

By day six, I felt confident enough to give a clean-girl beauty look my all. I combined all of the above tests and trials to execute what I think is a pretty good clean-girl look. Is it easy and low-maintenance? No. As you can tell, this took me six days to get right, with a lot of mistakes made along the way. And yes, while this looks wonderful for a quick snap or video, the truth is, the makeup has zero staying power. A dewy base really does require some sort of holding primer or setting spray (which does risk dulling the finish). By the end of day six, I looked nothing like the fresh-faced woman I was first thing. What I have learned about clean-girl beauty is that it likely takes a village. The celebs we see sporting it day in and day out have makeup teams on hand t...
