‘Not looking good’: Mikel Arteta confirms double injury blow for Arsenal after Chelsea game

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a worrying injury update on Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes following the pre-season friendly against Chelsea. The Gunners suffered a 2-1 defeat in their first game of The Mind Series. They were far from their best but were denied a goal by a poor refereeing decision. That doesn’t matter much in pre-season. The main concern was the ankle injury sustained by Partey that saw him substituted in the 40th minute. Speaking after the game, Arteta revealed that Partey was in pain, and hinted that the midfielder could potentially be sidelined for an extended period of time. Arsenal launch transfer bid for Lyon star Houssem Aouar

Arsenal have reportedly made an offer to Ligue 1 outfit Lyon for midfielder Houssem Aouar following a drop in the asking price for the player. According to Le 10 Sport, Aouar could cost the Gunners under a third of the £54 million fee club officials hoped to get in 2020. The 23-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates before the start of the 2020-21 season. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen on the versatile attacker who can play centrally or on the wing. In September reports in France claimed Lyon had turned their noses up at two separate bids from the North London giants of £31m and £34.5m. However, Le 10 Sport says the Gunners have returned with a fresh offer for the midfielder whose current contract with the French outfit runs out in 2023. And it is tho...

Imama Amapakabo: Why Andre Onana should consider Arsenal move

Andre Onana leaving Ajax and joining Arsenal would be “a good move” for the Cameroon international, according to former Nigeria U23 coach Imama Amapakabo. The Gunners have held discussions with the 25-year-old’s representatives, albeit, they have yet to decide whether they will step up their chase of the goalkeeper. Arsenal was on the lookout for a keeper following the departure of Emiliano Martinez in September 2020 and the underwhelming form of summer recruit Alex Runarsson. Despite technical director Edu and Mikel Arteta being big admirers of Onana, financial issues prevented the North London outfit from making a firm offer, instead they opted to sign Mat Ryan on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Amapakabo – who was a goalkeeper during his active career – and was part of the Nigeria...

Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has said that the Gunners board made a mistake in appointing Mikel Arteta as their manager. Arteta succeeded Unai Emery as the Gunners’ head coach in December 2019, guiding them to FA Cup glory at the end of the campaign. However, the Gunners were disappointing in the Premier League, where they finished only eighth on the table. The same was the case last season. Speaking to The Sun, Gallas believes Arteta could be a great manager in the future, but the Gunners made the wrong decision to appoint him. The former club captain said that Arteta’s lack of experience has cost the club, having previously only been the assistant coach at Manchester City. He said: “Mikel Arteta was not ready yet to manage a club like Arsenal. OK, he was assistant coach at Manc...

Ex-Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Arsenal need to appoint a ‘better’ manager than Mikel Arteta. An official announcement is still to come from the club but he will leave the Gunners in the coming days. Bould led Arsenal’s U18 side to Premier Academy League titles in 2009 and 2010 as well as the FA Youth Cup in the 2008/09 season. He was then promoted to become assistant to former manager Arsene Wenger in 2012, a role he served for seven years before he was reassigned as U23 coach in 2019. Arsenal’s U23 side only finished 10th in the Premier League 2 this season under Bould, but the team has produced Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, who have emerged as highly influential members of Mikel Arteta’...

The 29-year-old has since nailed down the number one spot in Arsenal’s team; however, it has been suggested that he is one of several first-team stars likely to depart in the summer transfer window.
