Just because it’s a nightmare doesn’t mean you want to wake up, as evidenced by the new teaser trailer for Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. As part of Geeked Week 2022, Netflix has now announced that the hotly anticipated comic book adaptation arrives August 5th. Tom Sturridge stars as Morpheus, The Sandman himself, and early in the teaser he offers his own introduction. “I am the King of Dreams,” he says softly. “Ruler of the Nightmare Realm.” Initially seen in the first look from last year, this teaser offers another glimpse of the occult ritual that summons Morpheus to Earth. But it lingers much more on the consequences of taking the King of Dreams out of his natural habitat, both for this realm and others. Johanna Constantine (Jenna Coleman), an occult detective and ancestor o...
The Pitch: Mira Harberg (Alicia Vikander) is an A-list Hollywood action star, hot off a Marvel-like superhero film called Doomsday whose smash success is colored by losing her assistant and lover, Laurie (Adria Arjona), to the film’s director during the shoot. Licking her wounds, she takes a break from blockbusters to fly to France to shoot a limited-series remake of the 1910s French serial Les vampires, in which she’ll play the iconic cat-suited criminal Irma Vep. But the shoot is suitably manic and unpredictable, from its director, René Vidal (Vincent Macaigne), being such a volatile, insecure mess that the financiers won’t insure him to her prima donna castmate, to Vincent Lacoste’s Edmond, who keeps trying to change his dorky detective character to better flatter his machismo, and...
It took more than four decades, but Kate Bush finally has a top 10 single to her name in the US. Thanks to prominent presence in Season 4 of Stranger Things, the UK singer’s 1985 single, “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” sits at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. A combination of 18,300 digital song sales, 17.5 million streams, and 392,000 radio airplays propelled “Running Up That Hill” to No. 8 — just behind new releases from Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, and Lizzo (via Billboard). In the process, Bush secured her first-ever top 10 single in the US; prior to now, Bush’s previous peak on the Hot 100 came in November 1985, when “Running Up That Hill” hit No. 30. “Running Up That Hill” also re-entered the UK top songs chart at No. 8 — two spots below the previous high set in 2012...

The UK has been birthing top-quality rap talent for some time now. While the UK first welcomed British rap to its shores from the London Posse in the ’80s, it wasn’t until London’s pirate radio stations and tower blocks curated grime music, rap crews, jungle and garage raves, dancehall, and the sound system traditions of DJ and MC. But since grime music’s resurgence in 2016, there’s a whole other collection of underground musicians carving their own lane to become the new hot-on-the-block sub-genre in UK rap culture. Little Simz, Knucks and Dave have proven that there’s a space for conscious and complex rap on the same level as its other drill, grime, and road rap counterparts. Stories on love, Black excellence, and personal tales about family can be articulated in a way that is now deserv...
