Black Show Promoters Accuse Syracuse Police Of Harassment

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Matt Champlin / Getty For Black concert promoters in Syracuse, New York, they’ve had enough of law enforcement interfering with their shows and are now speaking out against the treatment. In an interview with a local news outlet, promoter Azariah Yemma of Upper Echelon Entertainment alleges that police officers regularly target venues and shows to shut them down. “Any Black establishment that does entertainment in this county — we get this every single time,” he said. “There’s not a time that we don’t go through this, and there’s never any good reason for it.”  Yemma and others feel that the reasoning behind police interference is their perception of potential violence at the venues whenever Black Hip-Hop acts perform. “What [SPD] does is t...

A lot has changed for Harry Styles in the two-and-a-half years between his second and third solo album releases — but perhaps most significantly, he now has smash hits. With 2019’s Fine Line, the One Direction standout synthesized the star-crossed classic rock ambitions of his 2017 self-titled debut into sumptuous, soft-edged pop, and achieved top 40 enormity with “Adore You” and “Watermelon Sugar,” the latter his first Hot 100 chart-topper. Farruko Shows Ugly Side of Fame In Catchy Party Anthem ‘Nazareno’

It takes introspection and vast self-assuredness for an acclaimed, successful artist to not only recognize his limitations and weaknesses, but talk openly about them. Farruko does that in spades in his new single, “Nazareno,” where he talks candidly about the pitfalls of fame: “You’re surrounded by envy and hypocrisy; all eyes on you, everyone agreeing with you ‘cause you’re on top,” muses Farruko in the verse, before laying it out in the chorus: “Everyone’s around in the good times, but in the bad times, they all go their own way.” Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news The dichotomy here is how catchy “Nazareno” is, a reggaetón/dance track a la “Pepas” with a repeating, hypnotic motif. Harry Styles Invites You to New Album Harry’s House: Stream

Welcome to Harry’s House: The third studio album from Harry Styles is here. Styles announced Harry’s House, his follow-up to 2019’s Fine Line, back in March with a brief teaser trailer. Lead single “As It Was” — which we crowned Song of the Week — followed shortly thereafter. Styles then premiered the cuts “Boyfriends” and “Late Night Talking” during his weekend one set at Coachella last month. Although the 13-track LP conveniently shares its name with a 1975 Joni Mitchell tune, the title Harry’s House is actually a nod to Japanese pop legend Haruomi “Harry” Hosono. As Styles explained during an interview with Apple MusicL “[Hosono] had an album in the ’70s called Hosono’s House, and I spent that chunk in Japan; I heard that record and I was like, ‘I love that. It’...

Paris Jackson Goes Grunge on New Single “lighthouse”: Stream

Paris Jackson has gone grunge with her latest solo single, “lighthouse.” “I can feel the lights go low/ But I don’t wanna let go now/ Maybe if I turn around, you’ll see me/ And what you used to be/ Your wave keeps crashing in a changeless sea/ And I can’t help but feel it’s drowning me/ No, I can’t breathe/ The oil’s burnt in the lighthouse, my ship wrecked on your teeth,” she snarls on the chorus over boisterous guitars. According to a press release, “lighthouse” was specifically inspired by Nirvana’s “Sliver.” The song serves as the lead single off the Hollywood progeny’s forthcoming as-yet-untitled EP, a follow-up to her three-song project the lost from earlier this year and her 2021 collaborations with Manchester Orchestra (“adagio”) and The Struts (“Low Key in Love”). Logic and DJ Premier have dropped off their collaborative effort, “Vinyl Days.” Clocking in at almost five-minutes, the single is the title track of the rapper’s upcoming album and hears Logic spitting non-stop bars over some classic Premier sampling and production.
