On WE, Arcade Fire Raise the Stakes Higher Than Ever, But to Mixed Results: Review

“It’s an age of doubt/ and I doubt we’ll figure it out,” sings Win Butler on the first line of “Age of Anxiety I,” the opening track of Arcade Fire’s sixth studio album, WE (out Friday, May 6th). From the very start, things are bleak and contradictory; the song essentially describes a full-on panic attack, even though the music beneath it is synth-covered, electrifying dance-rock, and as the track comes to a close, Butler trades repetitions of the phrases “It’s all about you” and “It’s not about you.” The latter contradiction is a crucial one in the context of WE: There is a deep consideration from the band about the all-or-nothing cultural mentality that we find ourselves in in 2022, and the separation of “I” and “We” is what makes up the core of the album. The first half o...

Fabolous “Cheerio Freestyle,” Keke Palmer “Bottoms Up 2.0” & More | Daily Visuals 5.4.22

HipHopWired Featured Video Even though he doesn’t drop nearly as much material as he used to back in the day, Fabolous is still one of the game’s most talented lyricists and in his latest freestyle proves why he’s still that dude on the mic. For his visuals to “Cheerio Freestyle,” Fabolous kicks back in his fancy digs in the sky where he fixes himself a bowl of cereal while dropping bars and flexing some heavy ice. Fabolous got himself milk in a glass bottle so you know he balling out in the supermarket too. Back in the salon, Keke Palmer gets her hair did and in her clip for “Bottoms Up 2.0” Keke gets her stylists and customers to turn up alongside her to show that her salon is just as lit as any club. We can’t wait to see her in NOPE. Check out the rest of today’s drops including work fr...

Kendrick Lamar Teases Double Album For ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: oklama.com / Twitter Kendrick Lamar is adding to the anticipation for his next project release by putting out a teaser to fans that it could be a double album. On Tuesday (May 3rd), the DAMN! rapper had posted a new black folder entitled ‘master’ onto his website, oklama.com. Opening the folder, visitors were greeted with a photograph of someone (Kendrick himself, perhaps?) holding a red book bearing his name and the title of the album in gold script, along with two CDs individually labeled “STEPPERS” and “MORALE.” The photo immediately led many to get excited at the possibility of his last release for TDE will be a double album. While the MC has not made any public denial or confirmation since the photo was posted, it’s worth noting that his previous pre...

Donald Trump Calls Black NY Attorney General Letitia James “Racist’” Because He Has To Pay Court Fees

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Spencer Platt / Getty In today’s episode of Y’all’s Ex-President Just Be Out Here Saying Sh**, Don’t He? Donald Trump, America’s former commander-in-lies-and-losses, is bigly mad New York Attorney General Letitia James because he’s a big, rust-colored septuagenarian baby. This time, Trumpty-Dumpty is throwing a tantrum because he lost a motion Tuesday seeking to get a New York court to stop fining him $10,000 a day for refusing to hand over subpoenaed document related to an ongoing investigation into his alleged fraudulent business dealings. “After handing over millions of pages of documents, perhaps more than any person or entity has ever given before, there is nothing that can be done to satisfy the racist Attorney General of New York State, failed...

Beatport Adds South Africa’s Amapiano Genre To Its Platform

Recognizing the expanding South Africa-born genre, Beatport has this week added amapiano to its platform. Amapiano tracks that were previously categorized as Afro House, Deep House and Dance/Electro Pop will now be clearly and properly labeled in Beatport’s download store. Tones And I Covers Amyl and The Sniffers at APRA Awards: Watch

At a glance, Tones And I, the vocally-blessed “Dance Monkey” star, has very little in common with Amyl and The Sniffers, the punk-rockers on the rise with such numbers as “Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled),” “Got You” and “Hertz.” You’d be wrong. Tones (real name Toni Watson) was raised in Melbourne before she was discovered busking on the streets of Byron Bay, a beach town in northern New South Wales.
