During Brothers Osborne‘s duo of the year acceptance speech at Monday evening’s (March 7) Academy of Country Music Awards, TJ Osborne was especially grateful for the momentum that an award win can give an artist. “About a week ago, they pulled our single from country radio, so I needed a little wind put in our sails,” Osborne explained to the audience attending the awards show at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. Osborne was referring to Brothers Osborne’s radio single, “I’m Not For Everyone,” which reached No. 33 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart dated March 5 and had been on the chart for 43 weeks. It is not on the chart dated March 12. Osborne did not specify if “they” is a reference to the duo’s label home, EMI Records Nashville. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest vid...
The U.S. Supreme Court quietly announced Monday that it would not review Bill Cosby’s sexual assault case, leaving him a free man and ending a two-decade legal drama that shifted the cultural landscape, destroyed the groundbreaking Black actor’s reputation, and sent him to prison for several years late in life. The high court, without comment, declined to review a stunning decision out of Pennsylvania that released Cosby from prison in June over the word of a former prosecutor who said he had made a secret promise to Cosby’s lawyers that he would never be charged. A Cosby spokesperson expressed “sincere gratitude to the justices” on behalf of Cosby and his family for the announcement and said he was the victim of “a reprehensible bait and switch” by the district attorney and judge in the c...

Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul’s Topical Dancer is as blunt and emphatic as pop art—if you don’t get its bright, assertive takedowns, you’re not paying attention. The Belgian musicians take as much pleasure in sardonically dressing down racism, misogyny, and xenophobia as they do in crafting effortlessly propulsive electro pop fit for warehouse parties. That mischievous friction is at the heart of Topical Dancer, a riveting debut from two artists whose music pokes you in the side as often as it makes you move. Released on veteran Belgian duo Soulwax’s DEEWEE label, Topical Dancer openly draws on that group’s sweaty, mid-’00s-flavored blend of rock and electronic music. (Soulwax also contributed co-production and writing to the album.) Miss Kittin and Felix Da Housecat’s talky electrocla...

Fortune favors the bold in the weird and wonderful world of electronic dance music. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Nick Wise captured the hearts of the EDM community when he went viral for—well, just being himself. Thanks to a serendipitous appearance on a livestream, Wise, a dubstep fanatic who also produces music under the moniker Biotechnick, has become a darling of the bass music festival scene. One of the constants of these fests are the battalions of head-bangers maniacally riding the rails at any given stage—but they quake just a little bit harder when Wise is there. If you attend Lost Lands, Bass Canyon or practically any other major dubstep festival, odds are you’ll see an afro whipping like a dandelion petal in a hurricane. That’s Wise, w...
Lil Wayne hopped on a recent episode of the I Am Athlete podcast where he touched on career longevity and signing two of Young Money’s biggest stars, Drake and Nicki Minaj. Weezy shared that his decision to sign Drake and Minaj was based on more than just turning them into “the next one,” but rather the potential he initially saw in them. “That’s when I saw way more than just potential,” he said, further touching on Drizzy’s shining star. “When Drake’s music was brought to me from the homie Jas, it was about rap. I was like, ‘This dude sound different.’ What I loved about him, he was sounding just as dope as we were. When I say we, I’m talking about the streets and what we came from.” He continued, “I told him, ‘You could make working in the cubicle — you know how to make that the dopest t...
