A new show about the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat is in the early stages of development. Per Variety, Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) will take on the role of the late revolutionary artist in the limited series. The currently untitled project will be set in the art world of 1980s New York City, where Basquiat started out as a street graffiti artist before eventually becoming a cultural icon and central figure of the neo-expressionist movement. It will chart everything from his rise to fame to his close friendship with Andy Warhol and his tragic death at the age of 27 due to an accidental drug overdose. “I am thrilled to partner with Boat Rocker to bring to life the story of Jean-Michel Basquiat,” James said in a statement. “Jean-Michel is an artist I have long revered, and someo...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Christian Vierig / Getty Megan Thee Stallion had time for DJ Akademiks and Tory Lanez. Wednesday (Feb.23), DJ Akademiks inserted himself into the Megan Thee Stallion/Tory Lanez drama when he decided to hop on Twitter in a now-deleted tweet that Lanez’s DNA was not found on the gun used to shoot the Houston rapper in the foot. Word of Akademiks running his gums quickly got to Thee Stallion. She sounded off on him via her Instagram Stories, venting her understandable frustration about the ‘false narratives’ being reported about the case that has now been pushed back to April. CROWBAR will release its new album, “Zero And Below”, on March 4 via MNRK Heavy (formerly eOne Music). The official music video for the LP’s latest single, “Bleeding From Every Hole”, can be seen below. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Duane Simoneaux at OCD Recording And Production in Metairie, Louisiana, “Zero And Below” is reverently old school, counterbalanced by a resonant melodicism that’s stunningly mature. Songs like “Chemical Godz”, “Bleeding From Every Hole” and “It’s Always Worth The Gain” demonstrate what CROWBAR does better than any other band: powerful, evocative, and crushingly heavy music. Celebrating a recent 30th anniversary, CROWBAR is led by one of the most beloved figures in heavy...
