Irene Cara, star of the Academy Award–winning film Fame and vocalist on the 1983 hit “Flashdance…What a Feeling” has died. Cara’s publicist, Judith A. Moore, announce her death on Twitter, noting that Cara died at her home in Florida, but declining to provide a cause of death. Irene Cara was 63 years old. “She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films,” the statement said. “Funeral services are pending and a memorial for her fans will be planned at a future date.” Irene Cara Escalera was born on March 18, 1959, in the Bronx, New York. Steve Martin is set to join Saturday Night Live’s illustrious 16th Timers’ Club when he co-hosts the late-night sketch show with Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short on December 10th. The upcoming episode will mark Martin’s 16th time hosting SNL, and though he has made a number of guest appearances over the years, it’s been 13 years since he last hosted an episode. Universal Music Group (UMG) has purchased a 49% stake in the indie label group [PIAS], expanding on a strategic global partnership that began last year. As part of the deal, [PIAS] founders Kenny Gates and Michel Lambot will retain control of the company, “remain fully independent” and UMG will have no seats on the indie’s board. In March 2021, [PIAS] rebranded its distribution and services arm to [Integral], bringing on a new managing director to expand its business globally.
