Just one day after bringing the first leg of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour to a close, the Weeknd has announced even more tour dates to come in the new year. The second leg begins in June 2023, and the trek runs through Europe and Latin America. Check out the Weeknd’s schedule below. The Weeknd released his fifth studio album, Dawn FM, in January. Despite the boycott, the Weeknd won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his contributions to the Kanye West song “Hurricane.” Revisit the review of the Weeknd’s “Take My Breath.” All products featured on Pitchfork are indepen...
Nas and 21 Savage have shared a new song called “One Mic, One Gun.” The track arrives just two weeks after 21 Savage dismissed the Illmatic rapper as irrelevant in discussion on the Clubhouse app, reportedly saying, “He’s not relevant, he just has a loyal ass fan base…and he still make good-ass music.” He would later walk back the statement in a tweet. Check out “One Mic, One Gun” below. Both rappers are promoting new albums released earlier this month. 21 Savage shared Her Loss, his collaborative album with Drake, on November 4; Nas dropped Kings Disease III on November 11. Before its release, Drake and 21 Savage were sued by Vogue for using mocked-up magazine covers to promote Her Loss. The album would go on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, dethroning Taylor Swif...
Leading up to the premiere of his sophomore solo LP Heroes & Villains, Metro Boomin is ramping up for the release, four years in the making, with a short film. Named after the album, the film opens with a comic book-inspired introduction, narrated by none other than Morgan Freeman, who previously collaborated with Metro and 21 Savage on their 2020 album Savage Mode II. Freeman sets the scene in the fictional Metropolis, describing the city as “on the brink of chaos.” Directed by Gibson Hazard, the video cuts to a fire station engulfed in flames as the villainous Lakeith Stanfield escapes the scene on a stolen fire truck. Gunna and Young Thug appear as anchormen reporting on the crime. It seems like all is lost when Freeman appears alongside Young Metro to deliver an inspiring speech to...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Jim McIsaac / Getty If some folks don’t have nothing else…they have audacity. Longtime radio host Howard Stern took to the airwaves this week to scold media mogul Oprah Winfrey for “showing off” her wealth on Instagram. “It’s f*cking mind blowing when you follow her on Instagram,” Stern said, according to a report from Variety. “You see her estates, her gardens, the people who service her and, you know…She’s got servants and, like, people cooking and it’s fucking wild. She knows how to be rich…She kind of likes to show it off, which is something I’m not comfortable with. I don’t think that people should show off their wealth.” He added that “Oprah’s not embarrassed by her wealth at all” and implied that she lacks self-awareness. However, his co-host...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Love him or hate him, you have to respect Tyler Perry‘s hustle and work ethic. According to Variety, arguably one of the most successful Black directors in TV and film is now taking his brand to Amazon Studios by signing a four-picture film deal with the platform. That means Perry will write, direct, and produce four new movies for release on Prime Video, which already has a few of Perry’s gems available for streaming such as Daddy’s Little Girls, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, For Colored Girls, and, for those trying to get into the holiday spirit, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas. “I’m excited and grateful to start working with Amazon Studios to bring movies to Prime Video,” Perry said in a statement announcing the deal. ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty The story behind Balenciaga’s controversial campaign is getting more convoluted. They have filed a lawsuit against the production company who did the shoot. As spotted on Hype Beast the luxury label is fighting to keep their name clean amidst their most recent visuals which were largely deemed to be in poor taste. Last week the brand released a commercial on their social media channels featuring children holding teddy bears dressed in bondage. Gabriele Galimberti, the photographer, claimed the images were part of a project series called “Toy Stories”. Balenciaga later apologized after heavy criticism and removed all posts connected to the photo campaign. Hours later, Balenciaga apologized for a separate, earlier advertisement, whi...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Nintendo / The Super Mario Bros. Movie Nintendo has dropped the second trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and this time it’s hitting a lot better than the first one. The first teaser gave us a taste of Illumination’s upcoming animated adventure, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which features, much to the dismay of fans, Chris Pratt as the voice of the beloved video game plumber. In the second trailer, we get a better look at the gorgeous animated movie and the other characters not named Mario or Bowser (Jack Black). We get our first look at Princess Peach, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy. This peach isn’t the damsel in distress we are used to encountering in the Super Mario Bros. games. Like the other characters, she also has an updated look in the fil...
Jessie James Decker recently enjoyed a vacation in Mexico with her family, and like many parents, shared some adorable photos of her kids having fun in the sun on Instagram. However, the “I Still Love You” singer received some backlash, with critics claiming that she photoshopped the children’s visible abs or even accusing her and husband Eric Decker of “overtraining” their kids. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news In a follow-up post on Monday (Nov. 28), Jessie addressed the “bonkers” accusations. “Being accused of photoshopping abs on my kids (I can’t help but laugh) or … the polar opposite over ‘overtraining’ our kids makes me realize how bizarre our world has gotten regarding the body and what’s normal and what’s not,” she captioned a s...
He’s already a 14-time Grammy Award winner, and now Kendrick Lamar is hoping to extend his good fortune to the Oscars. Leading up to the 2023 Academy Awards — whose shortlist voting takes place next month, Dec. 12-15 — Lamar spoke with Variety in an interview published Tuesday (Nov. 29) about his short film We Cry Together, in which he stars opposite Taylour Paige. For the rapper, one of the most important things about his short film was to make sure that it felt real. We Cry Together sees Lamar and Paige exploring a relationship that’s equal parts vulnerable and toxic from the confines of a small space. The film, should it secure a nomination, would be up for a spot in the best live action short category at the Academy Awards. “It challenged me to actually live in what I was writing, and ...
