Two years after the tragic death of i_o, the family of the late DJ and electronic music producer has released a posthumous album, Warehouse Summer. The album is a stunning snapshot not only of i_o’s enduring legacy, but also how much more he had to accomplish. It’s both a reminder of the fragility of life and a captivating cry for help in the throes of collective mourning. Warehouse Summer features 14 new tracks, each of which features alt-pop star Lights, a frequent collaborator of the techno virtuoso. It’s tough not to feel her poignant songwriting in your bones, especially when it comes to “Prayers,” an aching drum & bass track about the hurdles of processing loss: “I can’t hold on to myself / If there’s nobody there / I got pain I can...

While most of the world is out chasing Pikachu and other creatures in the Pokédex, electronic music fans should have their eyes on a different prize. Last weekend, the gaming world celebrated the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the ninth generation of the iconic Pokémon game series. There are over 400 monsters to collect and battle, but perhaps the most unique haul comes in the form of a secretive clothing item from the Daft Punk universe. A lot is expected from musicians, but nobody wants to pay for it. That includes music venues and festivals. The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW), known for their steadfast campaigns against Spotify, are pushing venues and music festivals to stop taking percentages of musicians’ merchandise sales. The campaign, dubbed “#MyMerch,” has brought in the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) and Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon to assist. It comes after a successful campaign in the U.K. that FAC completed earlier this year. The pandemic tested every sector of the music industry, especially the live music space—but artists still seem to get the short end of the stick. They typically foot the bill for the vast majority of the costs associated with their merch, including ...

The Pitch: Did you know that in Britain, there’s a long and proud tradition of ongoing series putting out special episodes for the holidays? More often than not, they’re even broadcast on Christmas Day, when it seems that entire nation turns into couch potatoes. In America, though, our more couch potato-y holiday happens to be Thanksgiving, and our biggest ongoing series happens to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thus, this week’s release of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special feels pretty apt. Clocking in at 42 minutes (including post-credits scene), James Gunn’s breezy holiday confection offers a little bit of set-up as to where the titular Guardians, including Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillen), Rocket (Bradley Coop...
Following a frustrating Ticketmaster pre-sale for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Mike Lee (R-UT) have announced that a congressional antitrust panel will hold hearings on a lack of competition in the live music and ticketing industries, Variety reports. Pre-sale for “The Eras Tour” began on November 15th, and demand almost immediately outstripped the capacity of Ticketmaster’s website. The ticket portal crashed for many users, while others experienced lengthy delays, and by November 17th, the company was forced to cancel general on-sale due to “extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket...
