Syed, 41, was in a Baltimore courtroom on Monday (Sept. 19) after prosecutors were granted approval of their motion to vacate his 2000 conviction for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Lee, who was killed in 1999, was Syed’s former high school girlfriend. Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa Phinn vacated Syed’s conviction and explained that there was material in the state’s investigation that wasn’t turned over properly to defense lawyers and the existence of two suspects that possibly were cleared improperly. “In the interest of judgment and fairness, the state’s motion to vacate judgment … is hereby granted. The album is due out November 4 via Matador. They’ve shared a Britt Daniel–directed clip for Sherwood’s reconstructed version of “On the Radio.” Check out the video and full tracklist below.  Of Sherwood’s remixes, Daniel said in a statement: It wasn’t just a thing where you pick apart this and that and you stay on the grid and you add a delay. He added so much more instrumentation to the tracks that they became completely different versions of the songs. Not just remixes, but companion pieces. A “Part II.” Spoon recently wrapped up a string of tour dates with Interpol in support of Lucifer on the Sofa. They performed “Th...

Nilüfer Yanya Covers PJ Harvey’s “Rid of Me”

Nilüfer Yanya has shared her cover of PJ Harvey’s “Rid of Me,” the title track from the iconic English musician’s 1993 LP. Check it out below. Of the song, Yanya said in a statement:  “Rid of Me” haunted me for many years after I first heard it, but in a comforting kind of way, like I knew it was always there for me. It comes across defiant, alien and twisted, but it is a perfect song. I actually think it’s very romantic despite what some of the lyrics get at. Yanya released her second LP, Painless, earlier this year. She also joined Danish band Liss on their debut album I Guess Nothing Will Be the Same in May. In June, she opened for Adele at London’s Hyde Park. She’s set to perform at Desert Daze in Perris, California next month before heading out on a run of European tour dates, st...

Lil Nas X Introduces the Man Behind the Meme at New York’s Radio City: Review and Setlist

When arriving at a show on the “Long Live Montero Tour” (grab tickets to remaining dates here), you’re first greeted by venue security handing you a Playbill. It’s a jarring experience — particularly, as was the case at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on September 20th, when a local radio DJ is warming up the audience by blasting songs you might have attempted to grind to at a homecoming dance. But this Playbill actually sets the scene well: It has a photo of Lil Nas X on the front, adorned with butterfly wings and all. “I hate writing stuff that isn’t music but my people are forcing me at gunpoint to write this welcome note,” reads the first page in a hand-scribbled passage from the rapper, who certainly isn’t known for doing things in earnest. “This play is about my journey, what I...

QAnon, Citing The Simpsons, Says Something Is Happening September 24th

The Simpsons has a history of predicting the future, but QAnon is taking the animated series’ perceived abilities to the next level. As Vice reports, the conspiracy group is certain that something bad is going to happen on September 24th, and they’re basing their assumptions on one episode of the series and a poor choice of words from a German politician. While no one at QAnon is certain what, exactly, is going to happen on September 24th, followers on different platforms have thrown around the possibility of nuclear war, a financial crisis, water poisoning, and an armed revolution. The conspiracy theorists first got the idea for a fall armageddon when German lawmaker Friedrich Merz, speaking about the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this month, misspoke and said everyon...

Adam Levine Says “No Hot Chicks” Listen to Metal

As a grocery store pop rocker with a tummy tattoo, Adam Levine is very much qualified to comment on both heavy metal and how people look. And as he sees it, “no hot chicks” listen to heavy metal. The Maroon 5 singer came into the news earlier this week when Instagram model Sumner Stroh revealed messages between the two, implying they had an affair (Levine even allegedly asked for her permission to name his unborn child Sumner). After Stroh came forward, other women followed, sharing screenshots and screen recordings of their messages with the artist. It was in Instagram messages with Alyson Rosef that Levine opined about the fan demographics of metal. After Rosef said, “I’m so weird too and only listen to metal lol,” Levine allegedly replied, “Said no hot chicks ever other than you.” ...
