My15: Metric Shares the Playlist of Songs They’ve Had on Repeat Since 2007

It’s Consequence‘s 15th anniversary, and all September long we’ll be sharing artist-curated playlists that reflect the evolution of their music taste throughout the last 15 years. For today’s My15 playlist, Canadian indie rock band Metric shares their selections. Metric‘s frontwoman Emily Haines claims that, aside from the global hardships of the last few years, crafting the band’s new album Formentera was “one of the happiest processes making an album ever.” It’s evident in the very name of the album, which references an idyllic island near Ibizia off the coast of Spain, and evident in the band’s ambitious indie rock jams. For a group that has been around for nearly 20 years — not to mention one that has significant indie notoriety — it’s a pleasure to see Metric so united and enthusiasti...

Phoenix Perform “Tonight” with Ezra Koenig on Colbert: Watch

Phoenix appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, September 14th, to perform “Tonight,” their new song featuring Ezra Koenig. The Vampire Weekend vocalist joined his fellow indie rock icons by dialing in from what appeared to be a Tokyo taxi. This felt a little odd; Koenig was chilling in the back of the cab and seemingly lip synching, while Phoenix’s Thomas Mars gave a high energy performance all across the Late Show stage. But ‘odd’ can still be a lot of fun, as you can see in the performance  below. We named “Tonight” Song of the Week when it dropped earlier this month. The track appears on Phoenix’s upcoming album Alpha Zulu, which is out November 4th (pre-orders are ongoing). So far, the band has also shared the album’s t...

Wren Graves’ Favorite Songs of the Last 15 Years

It’s Consequence’s 15th anniversary, and all September long we’ll be publishing retrospective pieces informed by our publication’s own history — and the entertainment landscape in general. Today, News Editor Wren Graves runs down his favorite tracks of the last 15 years. A good song is a good song, but a favorite song is a moment in time: The number one track on a cross-country road trip; the first dance at a wedding; the long hospital playlist that still didn’t cover 19 hours in labor. I’ve changed a lot over the last 15 years, and music has been there every step of the way, melody and memory hand in hand. Critics sometimes put on a mask of objectivity, but I can’t pretend that this collection of songs has anything to do with words like “greatest” or “best.” As someone who lives thei...

NAV & Don Toliver ft. Future “One Time,” Lil Gotit “Free Y$L” & More | Daily Visuals 9.14.22

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Rene Johnston / Getty Over the weekend NAV returned to the music game with his latest project Demons Protected By Angels and much to the delight of his hardcore fanbase has come through with a new video for one of the album’s standout cuts. Linking up with Don Toliver and Future for the visuals to “One Time,” NAV and company find themselves at a telly where supernatural occurrences take place but still manage to keep their cool and enjoy their surroundings. Didn’t hurt that the women were hot. Men will put up with demonic sh*t depending on how attractive a woman is. It’s just nature. Back in the A, Lil Gotit is campaigning for the release of his ATLien brethren and for his clip to “Free Y$L” he takes to the streets to garner support for the release of the...

Red Hot Chili Peppers Jam Out at The Apollo Theater for SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series: Recap, Photos and Setlist

After a wild summer of playing sold out stadiums in the US and beyond, Red Hot Chili Peppers returned to New York City to play one of the smallest-capacity shows of their tour on Tuesday night (September 13th). Although The Apollo Theater doesn’t have the size of, say, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, it certainly has the history. “I’m standing where Duke Ellington stood,” said Flea early on in the show, making sure the band paid their respects to one of the most legendary performance venues in the country. Luckily, Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely know how to bring their best to a legendary location like The Apollo. It wasn’t just the venue that made this performance special; the show was set to be recorded and broadcast on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ exclusive SiriusXM channel, Whole Lotta ...

Unauthorized Queer Batman Movie The People’s Joker Pulled from TIFF “Due to Rights Issues”

The People’s Joker, an unauthorized queer coming-of-age movie set in the Batman universe, has been pulled from Toronto International Film Festival after a single screening “due to rights issues.” Helmed by and starring Los Angeles-based director Vera Drew, the film was scheduled for three more showings at TIFF following its premiere as part of the festival’s Midnight Madness programming on Tuesday, September 13th. Billed in the description of its trailer as “completely unlicensed by DC and Warner Bros.,” The People’s Joker was likely trying to operate under US fair use laws for parody. According to IndieWire, however, Warner Bros. Discovery informed the filmmaker of “a copyright issue” over the movie’s use of characters including Joker and “a Harlequin a la DC’s Harley Quinn...

R.I.P. David Andersson, Soilwork Guitarist Dies at 47

David Andersson, who had been Soilwork’s guitarist for the past 10 years, sadly died at age 47. In a statement, the Swedish metal band cited “alcohol and mental illness” as factors that led to his passing. Soilwork have been around for a quarter century, with Andersson joining the band in 2012. He appeared on their last four albums, including their latest, Övergivenheten, which just came out last month.
