Rolling Loud has hit major cities across the United States, Australia, Canada, Portugal and the Netherlands since its inaugural event in 2015. Next year, the hip-hop festival will take place in Thailand for its first iteration in Asia. Scheduled for April 2023, the festival will spotlight some of the most exciting Thai and Asian artists in the music industry. While the location of the festival has yet to be disclosed, festival co-founders Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif said that it will take place in a picturesque location. “We’re proud and honored to have Thailand host our first festival in Asia,” Zingler and Cherif said. “Rolling Loud has been looking to expand to Asia for a while, and we’re confident that Thailand is the perfect setting. Alec Benjamin Talks Struggles with Mental Health, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

[embedded content] Pop artist Alec Benjamin has given everything to music over the last decade on his path to mainstream success. The Arizona native started in the industry by promoting his music in parking lots of popular concert venues but made his mainstream debut in the late 2010s. In 2019, the singer/songwriter teamed up with Alessia Cara for the multi-platinum single “Let Me Down Slowly,” which landed on the Billboard Hot 100. Earlier this year, Benjamin released his highly anticipated sophomore album, (Un)Commentary, which features introspective tracks like “Devil Doesn’t Bargain,” “Hill I Will Die On,” and “Hipocrite.” Benjamin is no stranger to vulnerability in his music and prefers to let his mental state dictate the type of songs he creates. The first track from his debut album,...

Mayyas Gives an Otherworldly Performance for ‘America’s Got Talent’ Finals

Mayyas hit the stage of the America’s Got Talent finals on Tuesday night (Sept. 13) for a performance that was nothing short of magical. The all-female Lebanese dance team began the number in a surprising formation created to look like one single dancer was wearing a giant gown made out of white feathers — only for the makeshift dress to come alive as the rest of the members revealed themselves beneath it, controlling each feather according to the movements of the lead dancer. Dressed in traditional gold belly-dancing ensembles and glittering face jewelry, the dancers then spread out across the stage in a new formation waving glowing orbs of light in their hands. Combined with the traditional Lebanese music and colorful backdrop of outer space, the result was mysterious, thrilling and awe-...

Simon Cowell Tried to Grab ‘…Baby One More Time’ From Britney Spears By Offering Max Martin a Mercedes

What kind of world would it be if Britney Spears‘ debut single wasn’t “… Baby One More Time?” That impossible-to-image parallel universe would have become a reality if Simon Cowell had had his way. In an interview with the British music mogul/reality singing judge on the latest episode of his America’s Got Talent co-star Howie Mandel’s Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, Cowell revealed that he once offered the song’s producer/writer Max Martin a brand-new Mercedes for the track. Doja Cat Says She’s Embracing “Rave Culture” on Her Next Album

Doja Cat has given fans a hint of what’s to come on her highly-anticipated Planet Her follow-up. The singer spoke to Givenchy Creative Director Matthew M Williams for CR Fashion Book, revealing her inspirations for the next project. While the singer noted that she “can’t really tell much” about the LP just yet, she has “so many ideas and making those ideas consistent is the challenge right now.” “I’m very into this ’90s German rave kind of vibe right now and it’s really fun,” Doja told Williams. “I know that’s kind of the trend at the moment but I loved that stuff as a kid and now that I can express it (obviously, I couldn’t buzz my head and wear a furry bra and have a belly button piercing back then), I’m sort of embracing that.” That’s kind of a hint to the album,” she continued. “R...

Death Cab for Cutie Aren’t Bored Yet

During a recent phone call with Consequence, Ben Gibbard drops the totally unanticipated fact that he loves 100 gecs. “I’m completely obsessed with them,” he gushes about the polarizing hyperpop duo. “At 46 years old, there’s music that I should be scared of. It’s awesome that there’s music being made now that I have absolutely no idea how to make.” Being 46 also means Gibbard has spent over half his life as the frontman of Death Cab for Cutie, whose great 10th studio album Asphalt Meadows is out Friday (September 16th). Maybe it shouldn’t be shocking that he’s so enamored by 100 gecs, who sound a bit like what shotgunning five cans of Red Bull while on Adderall might feel like: Whether it’s collaborating with heavyweights like Chance the Rapper and Noah Cyrus, helming a Yoko Ono tribute a...

Cate Le Bon Shares Slinky New Song “Typical Love”: Stream

Cate Le Bon has released her standalone single “Typical Love,” a leftover from the sessions for her 2022 album, Pompeii. It arrives ahead of her headlining North American tour, which kicks off on September 27th (grab tickets here). Built atop a grooving bassline and the drumming of Stella Mozgawa, “Typical Love” is anything but typical. It comes with flourishes of electric guitar and synths alongside a distorted sax that adds to the disconcerting feel of the song’s production. Le Bon’s vocals cascade up and down the track, as she compares her love to “a shattering of glass and how I imagine Japan” and “an invite to the art of demolition.” “‘Typical Love’ was a product of a rare jam session with dearest genius friend, Stella Mozgawa,” Le Bon explained in a statement. “The outline, written o...

Nas’ 10 Best Songs

This article was originally published in 2014, but we’re dusting it off for Nas’ birthday on September 14th. Once upon a time, Nasir Jones was just a young kid stealing the show on Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque,” self-aware enough to foresee that he’d be a force to be reckoned with in rap’s packed New York scene. Long before he was a household name, he was comparing himself to Spielberg and going to hell for snuffing Jesus, both proof of the grandiose nature of his vision. Over two decades later, he remains one of the preeminent voices setting the gold standard for the genre. Nas, a product of Queens, has often been hailed as the second coming of the God MC himself, Rakim, but it’s safe to say, given the lifespan of his career and his subsequent impact on the culture, that he tapped ...
