Nio Garcia Sues Management Company, Accuses Late Owner’s Mother of Sabotaging His Career

Urbano artist Nio Garcia has filed suit against his management company for “derailing” his career, according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Miami on Thursday (Sept. 8). In the 14-page complaint, filed by attorney Edwin Prado-Galarza, Garcia alleges that AH Entertainment’s current president Ilianes Ruiz is attempting to sabotage his career after illegally taking ownership of the company following the death of her son, AH founder and Garcia’s frequent collaborator Flow La Movie. He’s asking for damages of no less than $3 million and for a court order allowing him to release his own music, citing breach of contract by Ruiz. According to Garcia, Ruiz — now acting as AH Entertainment — has tried to stall his career by “arbitrarily” failing to release his new album and associ...

White House Finally Unveils Official Obama Portraits

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: The Washington Post / Getty In a restoration of tradition, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama were at the White House for a ceremony honoring the unveiling of their official portraits. On Wednesday afternoon (September 7th), the Obamas were the guests of honor at the White House as their official portraits were unveiled to the public for the first time. The ceremony honoring a former President & First Lady which is hosted by his successor is a time-honored tradition – one broken as former President Donald J. Trump refused to hold the ceremony during his term in office. President Joe Biden, Trump’s successor, held court over the proceedings in the East Room. “Welcome home!”, he said to the former President and his family...

Kanye West “Releasing All Grudges” After Queen Elizabeth II’s Death

Queen Elizabeth II’s death has apparently inspired Kanye West to do some self-reflection. In an Instagram post paying tribute to Her Majesty, West promised to give up all of his many grudges. “Life is precious,” he wrote in a slideshow containing two photos of the Queen in her younger days. “Releasing all grudges today. Leaning into the light.” West didn’t go into any specifics, so it’s anybody’s guess which grudges he’s referring to and whether he actually plans to let go for more than 24 hours. He certainly has plenty of high-profile feuds to squash, whether it’s Pete Davidson, Kid Cudi, or John Legend. Earlier this week, he also went on a tirade about his treatment in partnerships with Gap and Adidas. Advertisement Related Video Throughout Davidson’s nine-month relationship with We...

Pearl Jam Cover The Beatles’ Oddity “Her Majesty” in Tribute (?) to Queen Elizabeth II: Watch

Queen Elizabeth II died on yesterday (September 8th) at 96 years old, and that evening Pearl Jam performed a cover of The Beatles’ oddity “Her Majesty” as a… tribute? Eulogy? Middle finger to the face of the 20th century imperialism? Most of the confusion comes from the song itself, a hidden track tucked some 14 seconds after “The End” on Abbey Road. “Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl/ But she doesn’t have a lot to say,” Paul McCartney sings. “I wanna tell her that I love her a lot/ But I gotta get a belly full of wine/ Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl/ Someday I’m gonna make her mine.” It’s a joke, though whether it’s a harmless bit of fun or deeply rude towards the monarchy depends on your perspective. Pearl Jam made no comment on their intentions when they...

Reboot Review: An Uneven but Entertaining Hollywood Satire

The Pitch: A reboot is considered to be a death knell in the current entertainment landscape, a clear indicator of a risk-averse industry out of original ideas and desperate to recycle old ones to save themselves from major financial loss. Most reboots simply pander and rehash their concepts in order to satisfy their fanbases. Once in a blue moon, though, resurrecting a piece of intellectual property can actually lead to something subversive, a chance to fix poorly aged elements or find fresh, new stories to share with contemporary audiences. Enter young indie filmmaker Hannah Gilman (Rachel Bloom), who wants to reboot the (fictional) 2000s multicam sitcom Step Right Up for Hulu. Instead of repeating all the original’s broad, Full House-inflected humor, however, Hannah envisions the new se...

Moontricks’ Debut Album “Currents” Speaks to Surrendering to the Divine

Like many, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of Moontricks draw their creative inspiration from the world around them. However, very few artists have the luxury of tapping into the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada. This distinction has most certainly made a mark on the ever-evolving duo, who curate an electro folk sound like none other. Delivering an intricate aural experience that intersects somewhere between grassroots blues, wistful soul and what they’ve coined “boot-stomping bass,” Moontricks have their own signature style. While the barnstorming duo have been producing music as a tandem for over a decade, the two have only released singles and a handful of EPs, including 2012’s The Ignition, Home—arguably their most popular with fans—as we...

Since its debut back in July, fans have been anxiously awaiting the official release of the high-profile dance collabo. Opening up with vocals about sharing the summer with a loved one, “Hot Summer Nights” sees Romero and W&W eventually building to a resplendent drop with euphorics leads and a pounding house beat. ̶...
