Hyd, the moniker of interdisciplinary artist and PC Music associate Hayden Dunham (formerly of the QT project), has announced their debut album. Clearing is out November 11 via PC Music. R. Kelly is currently on trial in Chicago and New York, and on Friday (September 9), a New York federal judge ruled the prosecution team can seize some of the money held in Kelly’s inmate commissary account to pay court fines and victim restitution, as Billboard and Rolling Stone report. The R&B vocalist has been ordered to hand over the nearly $30,000 dollars currently in the account, which will be used to cover a $900 court fine. The balance will also be applied to restitution after the court decides how much money Kelly owes the victims. Rolling Stone also notes under the conditions of the ruling, Kelly is allowed to retain $500 for commissary use. “The defendant has amassed nearly $30,000 dollars in his inmate trust account over the course of the last three years of incarceration,”...

The Recording Academy has announced that it will welcome nearly 2,000 diverse musicians and music industry professionals into its ranks, Billboard reports. Recording Academy President and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. shared the news during an annual address earlier today (September 9), in which he welcomed the Academy’s 2022 members and answered preselected questions from the audience. “We now actively recruit prospective members and we extend invitations to people who will help us have a more diverse, engaged, and relevant membership base,” Mason said during the session. “We strive for diversity not merely to give certain groups of people or musical genres space at the table [that has been] historically denied them—though that’s definitely part of our motivation. The Comet Is Coming have shared another new song from their forthcoming LP Hyper-Dimensional Extension Beam. It’s titled “Technicolour,” and with it comes a video directed by Charlie Robins. Take a look below. Along with saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (aka Shabaka), the ensemble includes drummer Max Hallett (aka Betamax), with Dan Leavers (aka Danalogue) handling synths and production. Their last LP was 2019’s Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery, and they followed it with an EP titled The Afterlife the same year. Hyper-Dimensional Extension Beam arrives on September 23 via Impulse!, and the group recorded it at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.
