Young Jesus Announce New Album, Share Song Featuring Tomberlin

Los Angeles–based group Young Jesus have announced a new album. It’s called Shepherd Head and it arrives September 16 via Saddle Creek. Today, the band has shared lead single “Oceans,” along with a music video directed by Stuart McClave and shot by Kadri Koop in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The new song features additional vocals from Young Jesus’ labelmate Tomberlin. Check out the visual below. Shepherd Head follows Young Jesus’ 2020 full-length Welcome to Conceptual Beach. Frontman John Rossiter crafted the album following the death of a close friend, opting for a collaborative and improvisational songwriting process. Instead of the band’s usual method of rehearsing for months prior to recording, Rossiter and his band cut Shepherd Head live-in-studio in less than a week. Rossiter also ad...

SoundCloud Announces Layoffs Impacting Nearly 20 Percent of Workforce

SoundCloud has announced that it will be laying off roughly 20 percent of its workforce due to recent changes in the economic and financial landscape, according to reports by Billboard and Variety. “During this difficult time, we are focused on providing the support and resources to those transitioning while reinforcing our commitment to executing our mission to lead what’s next in music,” the company wrote in a statement shared with Variety. Rina Sawayama Drops Introspective “Hold The Girl” Visual

Rina Sawayama has returned with a time-warping music video for the title track of her forthcoming sophomore album, Hold The Girl. The visual, directed by Ali Kurr, sees the Japanese-British artist trapped in a 19th-century farmhouse until she is ultimately able to free herself from a time loop. ”Sometimes I just wanna run away / Leave behind that old me, start again,” she sings on the introspective cut. “Then I’ll remember who I’m really made of / And she’s been hide-and-seeking, waiting all alone.” On the track’s creation, Sawayama explained in a statement, “I had gone to therapy and had a revelation, so I decided to write this song…that was the start of it. I was crying before going into the studio.” The accompanying video serves to represent Sawayama’s personal journey of real...

Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99 Captures Unknown Horrors of the Three-Day Disaster: Review

The Pitch: The world of documentary film seems to believe in one thing: Why have just one documentary covering a disastrous music festival when you can have two? Unlike the paired Netflix and Hulu documentaries which investigated the wildness of Fyre Fest, though, Netflix’s new docuseries Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99 at least has a good year or so of distance from HBO’s Woodstock ’99, while rehashing much of the same material. It’s Not a Three-Hour Movie: Trainwreck (previously known as Clusterfuck, and streaming today on Netflix), does have a distinct advantage over the HBO doc — rather than compressing the full breadth of the three-day disaster into one 110-minute film, the series consists of three episodes, structured to mirror the three days of the actual festival. While the episodic stru...

Law & Order Writer Says Alex Jones Trial Too “Dumb” for Fiction

Forget about Law & Order‘s dun-dun, this is just dumb-dumb. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is currently standing trial for a defamation lawsuit brought by the parents of children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, but his own legal team have torpedoed the case. On Wednesday, August 3rd, it was revealed that Jones’ lawyers accidentally emailed the full contents of his phone to the attorneys representing the parents, in the process providing dozens of emails and texts that contradicted Jones’ sworn testimony and suggesting he committed perjury. The reveal was so bizarre that longtime Law & Order writer David Slack weighed in, writing that the twist was too outlandish for fiction, because “on Law & Order we wouldn’t have let a lawyer do something that dumb...

Joker: Folie à Deux Receives Fall 2024 Release Date

Todd Phillips’ Joker 2, aka Joker: Folie à Deux, has received a release date. It will be out on October 4th, 2024, according to a report from Deadline. Just like the original 2019 film, it was penned by Phillips and Scott Silver. Folie à Deux translates to “shared madness” in French, and it could be indeed just that. The Game Postpones ‘Drillmatic’ Album, Announces New Release Date

The Game took to social media on Monday to share that he would be postponing the release of his forthcoming LP Drillmatic after a rough couple of weeks. He posted a photo of his bandaged fingers, paired with a lengthy Instagram caption explaining his reasoning for the delay. “PSA to any & everyone it may concern,” The Game wrote in the caption. “I’ve always prided myself on my transparency in tow with sharing every part of my life & myself with my family, friends & my fans… the past two weeks have been a nightmare for me. I have witnessed disloyalty on levels unimaginable by people I’ve trusted with my heart, money, career & livelihood.” “Not only have I been backstabbed & betrayed. I’ve been left to pick up the pieces alone,” he continued. “I’m in no way shape or form ...

Beyoncé surprised fans on Wednesday with a four-track “Break My Soul” remix EP, featuring revamped cuts of her popular RENAISSANCE track by Honey Dijon, will.i.am, Terry Hunter and Nita Aviance. The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am centers on the track’s core beat with a simple, bouncy approach, and Hunter implements church service organs for an ethereal house workout anthem.
