The Cure to Reissue Wish With 24 Unreleased Tracks for 30th Anniversary
The Cure have announced the long-awaited reissue of their 1992 album, Wish. Remastered at Abbey Road Studios by Robert Smith and Miles Showell, the album will be appended with dozens of bonus tracks including 24 that have not officially been released, four of which are full demos from 1990. The rest are mostly instrumental demoes like “Miss van Gogh” and “Now Is the Time”; the Lost Wishes EP had been available only as a mail-order cassette and will come to CD and streaming for the first time. The set is out on 3xCD, double LP, single CD, and digitally on October 7. This three act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative. Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. Beyoncé’s new album, Renaissance, includes a song that appears to sample Kelis’ Kaleidoscope single “Get Along With You.” While the full credits for the track, “Energy,” have not yet been revealed, credited composers include Pharrell Williams and Chad (presumably Williams’ Neptunes bandmate Chad Hugo). Kelis has now said that she was not made aware that “Get Along With You” was going to be sampled for Renaissance. The lawsuit against Bob Dylan—brought by a woman identified as J.C. who claimed that the singer-songwriter groomed sexually abused her in 1965 when she was 12—has been dropped, as Billboard reports and Pitchfork can confirm. The news comes shortly after Dylan’s attorneys accused J.C. of destroying evidence after she failed to turn over emails and text messages by a court-ordered deadline. Stabbing Westward Singer Battling Throat Cancer, Band Cancels Tour Dates
Stabbing Westward singer Christopher Hall revealed Wednesday (July 27th) that he is battling throat cancer. As a result, the band has canceled a series of tour dates planned for August and September. Hall wrote the following on the industrial rock band’s Facebook page: “I’d like to apologize to everyone who made travel plans to see us in August and September. We’ve had to put those shows on hold while I deal with a serious health issue. Brace yourselves: Another Rocky spinoff is coming. MGM Studios has tapped Robert Lawton to write the screenplay for Drago, the latest addition to the iconic boxing franchise. Drago centers Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer who took on Sylvester Stallone’s beloved fighter in the 1985 film Rocky IV. Decades later, Ivan’s son, Viktor Drago, appeared in Creed II, the second spinoff following the amateur boxer Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). Dolph Lundgren played Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and Florian Munteanu portrayed Viktor in Creed II, but it’s unclear whether either of them will reprise their roles in Drago. Fentanyl Will Be Circulating at Lollapalooza 2022, Chicago DEA Warns
Chicago has reported nearly 1,300 fatal fentanyl overdoses in the last year alone, Fox 32 Chicago reported this week. Now, with the approach of Lollapalooza, the city’s Drug Enforcement Agency is on high alert. “There’s going to be people walking around with backpacks at Lollapalooza that are going to be selling pills that are going to be laced with fentanyl,” Shane Catone, the division’s Deputy Special Agent in Charge, told Fox 32. “There’s not a doubt in my mind.” According to the report, Catone’s department has seized 80,000 pills containing fentanyl in the city since last October.
