Pearl Jam Cancel Show After Eddie Vedder’s Voice Damaged by “Dust and Smoke” from France’s Wildfires

Climate change is here, and as France goes up in flames, Eddie Vedder, who just finished a concert near Paris, has been left unable to sing after “dust and smoke” from the wildfires damaged his voice. Because of that, Pearl Jam have been forced to cancel a July 20th concert in Vienna, Austria. “To all those who were anticipating a great Pearl Jam show tonight in Vienna, we were too,” the band wrote in a social media statement. “However, due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was left damaged. He has seen doctors and had treatment but as of yet, his vocal cords have not recovered.” The statement continued, “This is brutal news and horrible timing… for everyone involved. Those w...

Quidditch Rebrands as Quadball to Distance Sport from J.K. Rowling’s “Anti-Trans” Beliefs

The fictional game turned real-life sport quidditch is now known as quadball in large part due to the “anti-trans positions” of its creator, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. US Quadball (USQ) and Major League Quadball (MLQ) formally announced the name change on Tuesday, July 19th, with the International Quidditch Association (IQA) soon to follow suit. In their statements, the organizations named Rowling’s history of transphobic comments dating back to December 2019 as one of two primary reasons for the rebranding. “First, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series, has increasingly come under scrutiny for her anti-trans positions,” the organizations wrote. “LGBTQ+ advocacy groups like GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign as well as the three lead actors in the Harry Potter fi...

Minneapolis Venue First Avenue Cancels Dave Chappelle Show Following Transphobia Backlash

Minneapolis venue First Avenue has cancelled a standup set by Dave Chappelle slated for July 20th, following backlash surrounding the comedian’s penchant for transphobic jokes. Chappelle will now perform at the city’s Varsity Theater. First Avenue announced Chappelle’s set on July 18th, prompting numerous users on Twitter to criticize the booking. In a statement, the venue stated, “To staff, artists, and our community, we hear you and we are sorry. We know we must hold ourselves to the highest standards, and we know we let you down. We are not just a black box with people in it, and we understand that First Ave is not just a room, but meaningful beyond our walls.” “We believe in diverse voices and the freedom of artistic expression, but in honoring that, we lost sight of the impact this wo...

Peace, Love, and Music Devolve Into a Clusterfuck in Trailer for Netflix’s Woodstock ’99 Docuseries: Watch

Woodstock ’99 infamously failed to emulate the three days of peace, love, and music that the original festival embodied 30 years prior. The new Netflix docuseries Clusterfuck: Woodstock ’99 attempts to uncover why, and its first trailer is out now. Combining real footage from the event with interviews with the artists who performed, Clusterfuck retraces the fires and riots that destroyed Woodstock ’99 in three 45-minute episodes. Mounds of garbage and overturned cars litter the series’ trailer, as artists like Jewel recall the festival’s turbulent energy. “It felt like a crowd that could turn at any time,” the singer-songwriter says. Other eyewitnesses attribute the toxicity of the event — which was marred by vandalism and sexual assault — to “male ego,” a lack of secur...

Goodbye Mike? Peep The Trailer To ‘Halloween Ends’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Universal / Universal Michael Meyers is still running around in a white man mask killing people but apparently his number is about to be up as Halloween Ends promises to be his final swan song. Yesterday fans of the classic horror film franchise got the first trailer to the David Gordon Green directed film and it looks like Michael will once be throwing down with his sister, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), but this time it’s for all the marbles that Mikey’s lost over the decades. Taking place three years after the events of Halloween Kills (which dropped last year actually), the trailer to Halloween Ends doesn’t offer much in plot details other than that Michael Meyers is once again terrorizing the citizens of Haddonfield, Illinois, but given the film’s...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NICHOLAS KAMM / Getty The recent controversy over the United States Secret Service stating that it had no text messages from January 6th as insurrectionists stormed the Capitol has raised many eyebrows – including that of Trevor Noah. The host of The Daily Show touched upon the incident in his opening monologue during the episode that aired Tuesday night (July 19th). “Wow, this is so sad. The Secret Service lost all the texts from January 6th because they were doing a ‘device replacement program.’ What a perfect ― I mean terrible ― thing,” he quipped. “Why do I feel like this is the same kind of device replacement program you do when your partner asks you to explain where you were the other night?” Related Stories He continued, “It’s interesting how they ...

During a recent appearance on the Flip Da Script Podcast, Budden explained that he was a young rapper who understood that it was an expensive price tag only for him and not Hov. ”I don’t think that was a big number, I think that was his number. ‘That’s my number to rap on this new artist’s remix.’ It was just big in my world, but it wasn’t a big number,” he said. “Listen, again, I’m super young in that moment. I wasn’t in the studio when [Jay and Budden’s A&R Skane] had the conversation. Through the song I attempt to piece it together in some non-li...
