Disturbed Return with “Hey You,” First New Song in Four Years: Stream

Disturbed are back with a new single, “Hey You,” marking their first new original song in four years. The multiplatinum metal band has also revealed that it will release a new as-yet-untitled album later this year. While Disturbed have recorded notable cover songs in the past, including their smash-hit version of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” it is very evident in the opening seconds of the new song is that it’s NOT a cover of the iconic Pink Floyd hit of the same name. “Hey You” harkens back to Disturbed’s massive debut 2000 album, The Sickness, with singer David Draiman delivering his signature staccato vocals over a crushing Dan Donegan guitar riff in the verses. The chorus showcases the more melodic side of Disturbed, while still maintaining the overall heaviness of t...

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has launched a new band called Dieth. The group also shared a performance clip for its lead single “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents.” Dieth’s lineup is rounded out by Swedish singer-guitarist Guilherme Miranda (ex-Entombed A.D.) and Polish drummer Michał Łysejko (ex-Decapitated). A second guitarist, Michał Grall, is featured in the video, but does not appear to be an official band member. With ex-Entombed A.D. and Decapitated members on board, it’s no surprise that “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents” is in the technical death metal style, with pummeling blast beats, snarled vocals, and chugging breakdowns. Killer Mike has unveiled “RUN,” a new collaboration with Young Thug that marks the Run the Jewels rapper’s first solo music in 10 years. Listen to the unsurprisingly political track below. Produced by NO I.D., “RUN” reframes America’s Independence Day with an emphasis on Black history. Bass slinks under a chorus of horns as Killer Mike reminds us, “The race for freedom ain’t won.” “All I know is keep going/ Run, *****, run,” he repeats. The song’s hook comes from a Dave Chappelle monologue about being Black in America, which opens “RUN”‘s music video. LUCI Pops Off on Debut Single “Ash & Dust”: Stream

LUCI has signed to Don’t Sleep Records and unveiled her debut single, “Ash & Dust,” a wildly original statement that points towards the future of hip-hop. The artist born Lucianna Ania is a trip-hop veteran, and as part of the now-defunct band Defbeat she was influenced by groups like Death Grips and Massive Attack. But if “Ash & Dust” is any indication, her solo project will vibe check everything from punk and gospel to Kanye West. The track opens with waves of dark synths before stripping back to layers of skittering percussion. Her words are about transformation, but her delivery is somewhere between a rap and a howl, with occasional yips and warbles that suggest being demolished and reborn is even less pleasant than you might imagine. Superorganism Unveil New Single “Into the Sun” with Stephen Malkmus and More: Stream

Superorganism have gathered an eclectic guest roster for their latest single “Into the Sun,” off their upcoming second album, World Wide Pop. Their biggest single from this album cycle yet — at least based on its headcount — features Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus, Japanese actor and musician Gen Hoshino, French artist and former tourmate Pi Ja Ma, and producer Axel Concato. “Into the Sun” is paired with an animation-based music video that puts visuals to the song’s bugged-out musings and “world spinnin’ round and round” refrain. Directed by AEVA, and a mix of 2D and 3D animation by Neirin Best and Nicholas Barnes, the visual follows a concept developed by the band that guitarist Harry said “stemmed from the lyric about being a fruit fly, watching the world go by, whilst nature and time...
