Leave it to Shamir to flip a fear-mongering term into a positive slice of art-pop. On his new single, “Gay Agenda” the Philadelphia-based musician leans into distortion for an anthem about taking pride in who you are and the way you live your life. Stream it below. Recorded with producer Hollow Comet of Strange Ranger, “Gay Agenda” sees Shamir embracing a new-to-him sound that’s more expansive and brooding than anything else he’s released prior. He leans into industrial synths, clanging drum machines, and sobering guitar for the track while letting his unmistakable voice scale to new heights. Truth be told, it feels more like an Arca deep cut than anything off his self-titled record, which was one of the best albums of 2020 — yet it still sounds totally like Shamir. In a press release, Sha...
James Blake has recruited slowthai for a remix of “Funeral,” a track from Blake’s newly released fifth studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart. In this new version, Blake’s second verse is substituted with a restrained feature from the UK rapper. “I never been one for horror movies,” slowthai spits. “I fall asleep under your tongue, I hope you choose me/ The shadow silhouetting the sun, I’m glued to your feet/ I live in the shadows of, mmm, under the loose leaves.” Otherwise, the remix remains largely unchanged from the original. To accompany the reworked track, Blake shared a black-and-white music video capturing the somber tone of “Funeral.” Watch the full clip below ahead of the duo’s debut performance of the song on the episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airing on Mo...

Meanwhile, the track’s accompanying music video is a colorful science experiment gone wild, in which a lab coat-adorned Big Freedia convinces Tank to drink up a potion she’s concocted. Can you hear what The Rock is rapping? Dwayne Johnson spits bars on “Face Off,” the new song from prolific Kansas City MC Tech N9ne. The track appears on ASIN9NE, Tech N9ne’s 23rd studio set which dropped today, October 8th. The song is a swirling fight anthem, with a hook by Krizz Kaliko that recalls The Rock’s wrestling days: “Rumble/ They gon’ take your face off/ They gon’ rumble/ They gon’ take your face off.” Compared to Tech N9ne’s machine gun flow, Johnson brought a more stately pace to his guest verse. “Black and Samoan in my veins,” he raps, “My culture bangin’ with Strange/ I change the game so what’s my motherfuckin’ name? (Rock!).” The track ends with a Johnson outro, as he thanks “brother Tech N9ne,” as well as his tequila sponsor Teremana, and brags, “One take,...
It’s been almost a year since MF DOOM passed away, but new verses keep dropping that further cement his legacy. Now, Minneapolis duo Atmosphere have shared an ode to some of DOOM’s favorite hobbies — specifically, getting fucked up and playing video games — on the new song “Barcade” that also features Aesop Rock. The track closes Atmosphere’s latest album, WORD?, which dropped today, October 8th. Producer Ant provides a dark, glitchy beat, and Aesop Rock opens the proceedings with some syllabic pinball: “Duck, duck, I’m too next/ Punk jump to get suplexed/ My two cents is y’all fucked up/ Should come buddy up with these moose heads.” MF DOOM takes over from there with a vintage sticky verse. “Shitty fingers in your weed jar,” he wheezes, “This whole world like VR/ Free shows at the Re...
If you were a teenage girl between the years of 2009 to 2013, there’s a good chance you once fantasized about starring in a Justin Bieber music video. Today, in a move that no tween back then could’ve predicted, the latest actress to take on that coveted role is… Diane Keaton. The Something’s Gotta Give star has inexplicably teamed up with the Biebs for his new “Ghost” music video. The “Ghost” clip, directed by Colin Tilley, finds Bieber at the funeral of his grandfather. Throughout the rest of the video, he spends time consoling his grieving grandmother, who is played by Keaton. Keaton’s character then joins Bieber in a night of debauchery, downing shots of liquor in an outfit that Annie Hall would definitely approve of (would she have been a Belieber?) before swiping around for elig...
Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine have collaborated for the first time for a new video series set in Yosemite National Park. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss did not write an original song for their Grammy-winning 2007 album Raising Sand, and 11 out of the 12 tracks on the upcoming sequel Raise the Roof are covers. But “High and Lonesome” is a novelty: an all-new tune, co-written by Plant and producer T Bone Burnett that’s as fun as anything in Plant’s recent discography. The bluesy track chugs along on a four-note guitar riff, accompanied by crisp drumming and occasionally punctuated by urgent smacks of hand claps. Plant triples-up phrases like, “I must find my love,” and “Does she still think of me,” putting a swanky little lean into the first word. Krauss and Burnett sing backup vocals, with the latter adding a ghostly whisper and the former flickering above Plant’s topline like smoke above a fire. Check o...
Kylie Minogue has released her new single, “A Second to Midnight,” with some help from Years & Years. It’s the first preview of her recently-announced album DISCO: Guest List Edition. The song is nothing short of a glittering disco bop, with the pop icon in pursuit of the high that only comes from the dance floor. “Cause the clock keeps tickin’ the tock/ I’m not gonna stop, no how, no way/ I’m chasing after midnight/ Show me the way to your heart/ Ready for the start of my real life/ To shine like a light in the dark,” she sings on the ebullient chorus. For the accompanying music video, she and Years & Years’ Olly Alexander run through non-stop choreography onstage at London’s historic Collins Music Hall, donning matching leopard print coats and lacy black ensembles and even s...
