The Antlers Unveil New Single “It Is What It Is”: Stream

Last month, The Antlers returned with their first single in six years, “Wheels Roll Home”. Proving their comeback isn’t just a one-time affair, the indie rockers have shared another new song, “It Is What It Is”. While the preceding offering saw The Antlers overjoyed at the thought of reuniting with an old friend, today’s single is a more sobering listen. On it, frontman and lead songwriter Peter Silberman is forced to come to terms with an unexpected, and oftentimes less-than-ideal, reality. “‘It Is What It Is’ is a song about hindsight. It considers what might have changed had you handled things differently back then, and the reluctant acceptance that it’s too late for all that now,” he explained in a statement. “It’s the inevitability of changing seasons, transitions that feel like loss ...

Rico Nasty Unleashes New Song “OHFR?”, Produced by 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady: Stream

On Monday, Rico Nasty formally announced her debut album, Nightmare Vacation. Due out in just a few weeks, the project is being teased now with “OHFR?”, a new single that reunites the young rapper with Dylan Brady of 100 gecs. Over the summer, the two acts joined forces on Rico track “iPhone”, as well as on 100 gecs’ “ringtone” remix alongside Charli XCX and Kero Kero Bonito. Not unlike those previous offerings, “OHFR?” continues to see Rico and Brady finding their collaborative sweet spot all while disregarding genre barriers. Rico is as fearless and unapologetic as ever as she rap-growls, “I been movin’ how I want/ Fuck how you feel.” Brady’s booming production here is a departure from 100 gecs’ adrenaline-crazed hyper-pop, but fits right in with Rico’s calculated confidence. Foo Fighters Unveil Video for “Shame Shame”, Announce Live Concert at the Roxy: Watch

Last weekend, Foo Fighters debuted their new song “Shame Shame” on Saturday Night Live. Now, the Dave Grohl-led outfit has unveiled an accompanying music video. Additionally, the veteran rockers have announced a new concert event to be streamed live from the Roxy in Hollywood on Saturday, November 14th. The video for “Shame Shame” was directed by Paola Kudacki and features the Algerian-French actress and dancer Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Atomic Blonde, the Kingsman franchise). With angular dancing and moody lighting, the visuals represent burdens of shame and guilt. In one particularly memorable sequence, Grohl uses a guitar to dig his own grave. According to a statement, it represents a recurring dream that Grohl has had since his childhood. Check out the video below. As fo...

Killer Be Killed Unleash New Song “Inner Calm from Outer Storms”: Stream

The release of supergroup Killer Be Killed’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Reluctant Hero, is around the corner (November 20th). Now the band has unveiled the LP’s third single, “Inner Calm from Outer Storms”. The song pairs personal lyricism with a musical backbone of propulsive heavy metal. The combined vocal talents of Mastodon’s Troy Sanders and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato conjure the subtle melodic sensibility also present on previous singles “Deconstructing Self-Destruction” and “Dream Gone Bad”. Meanwhile, the guitar assault is powered by the legendary Max Cavalera (Soulfly, ex-Sepultura), who adds additional vocals to the track. All the while, drummer Ben Koller (Converge) ties it all together with a rapid-fire beat. Killer Be Killed are the example of a democrat...

YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Nicki Minaj Link Up on New Song “What That Speed Bout?!”: Stream

In 2018, YoungBoy Never Broke Again released “Nicki Minaj”, a song that paid homage to the Queens-bred rapper of the same name. Today, it appears YoungBoy’s teenage dreams have come true, as he’s now collaborated with idol Minaj on a new single called “What That Speed Bout?!”. The track comes courtesy of veteran producer Mike WiLL Made-It, whose winding synths and stabbing percussion make for a listen that alternates between hypnotizing and urgent. And what is that speed bout, you might wonder? I’m still not quite sure, but I did learn YoungBoy has “got seven figures bouncin’ in the car” and watches Blues Clues, while Minaj loves to rock “diamonds on the chain, blingin’ off my tits.” Big moods all around. All three acts appear in the song’s shiny sci-fi video from Edgar Esteves and Austin ...

Gorillaz Share Video for “The Valley of the Pagans” Featuring Beck: Watch

Last month, Gorillaz unveiled the audio portion of the first season of their audiovisual project, Song Machine. But some visuals are still coming down the pipeline, and that includes the newly-released music video for “The Valley of the Pagans” featuring Beck. Gorillaz love to combine live-action and animated footage, but “The Valley of the Pagans” is more animated than most. It shows 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel cruising around a CGI Los Angeles while driving a low-rider called a Pagan. The song blasts out of the speakers, and when it comes time for Beck to chime in, he appears on something called a Fruit phone. Honestly, it looks like it was recorded over FaceTime in about the time it takes to listen to the song, but the device (plot and cellular) works; th...

Lil Durk Drops New Song “Stay Down” Featuring Young Thug and 6LACK: Stream

Lil Durk has dropped his new song “Stay Down” featuring a hook from 6LACK and a guest verse from Young Thug. This is the second single from Durk’s forthcoming album The Voice. Produced by Metro Boomin and DY Krazy, “Stay Down” is all about priorities. Specifically, Durkio prioritizes sex and lots of money. With the aid of auto-tune, he raps “Only five star shit, ain’t no thots with us/ Chanel round shades like binoculars/ Diamond nose ring, they think Pac with us.” He’s got punchlines about The Proud Family (“I gave you every Penny like Oscar”), and shows off some non-English vocabulary to prove that women of other cultures and faiths are more than welcome in his bed. But the Chicago native’s line about going “from Harold’s Chicken to eating lobster,” is unlikely to win him many ...

Smashing Pumpkins Drop New Songs “Wyttch” and “Ramona”: Stream

We’re officially less than a month away from Smashing Pumpkins’ new double album, CYR. Following the release of “Anno Satana” and “Birch Grove” a few weeks ago, the Billy Corgan-led outfit is now sharing another pair of teaser songs in “Wyttch” and “Ramona”. “Wyttch” finds the Pumpkins revisiting some of their more ominous musical territories, filled with crunchy and searing guitars. The track comes just in time for the spooky Halloween weekend. The alt-rockers take a mellower approach on “Ramona”, however. Corgan here drops his snarl in favor of a softer vocal delivery, and a coating of ’80s synths give the song a light, glassy sheen. Stream both new singles below. “Ramona” also comes with a Linda Strawberry-directed music video that stars founding Pumpkins members Corgan, James Iha,...

Gone Is Gone Announce New Album, Share New Song “Breaks”: Stream

Supergroup Gone Is Gone have announced their sophomore album, If Everything Happens for a Reason…Then Nothing Really Matters at All. To tide us over until the December 4th release date, the band’s shared the video for new song “Breaks”, which follows two previous singles that will also be included on the new album. Gone Is Gone features Mastodon singer-bassist Troy Sanders, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, At the Drive-In drummer Tony Hajjar, and composer Mike Zarin. Together, the group of heavy music vets create an accessible amalgamation of stoner and alternative rock. As “Breaks” illustrates, the band has found the elusive threshold between metal and melody. The new album follows the 2017 full-length debut Echolocation and a 2016 debut self-titled EP. While both ...

Rob Zombie Announces New Album The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy, Unveils “King Freak”: Stream

Rob Zombie has announced his long-awaited new album, The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy. The veteran rocker’s seventh solo LP won’t be released until March 12th, but the first single, “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition)”, is available now. The 17-song album will arrive nearly five years after Rob Zombie’s previous LP, 2016’s The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser. The single, shortened as “King Freak”, marks his first new song and music video in more than four years. The track is heavy on the riffs, thanks to guitarist John 5, with a thunderous rhythm section powered by bassist Piggy D and drummer Ginger Fish. The song is accompanied by a music video that combines newly shot footage with concert scenes, presented in...

Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, and Hit-Boy Team Up for “4 Thangs”: Stream

Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, and Hit-Boy have teamed up to release a celebratory new single called “4 Thangs”. The collaboration comes with a mood-worthy music video in which all three hip-hop stars can be seen decked out in Lakers jerseys celebrating the team’s recent NBA championship. It’s hard not to feel a secondhand high as you them hugging golden trophies, slipping into commemorative t-shirts, and spraying champagne in the air. Watch the clip below. Editors’ Picks Earlier this year, Gibbs dropped his Alchemist-produced album Alfredo, which has since gone on to become his highest-charting record to date and one of the best albums of the year. As for the other two, Big Sean released his latest full-length Detroit 2 and Hit-Boy produced the entirety of Nas’ new record a...

Gianna Lauren Shares the Origins of New Single “Closed Chapter”: Stream

In our new music feature Origins, we give artists the opportunity to explain the influences of their latest single. Today, Gianna Lauren tells us about the internet algorithms that haunt “Closed Chapter”.   Next month, folk songwriter Gianna Lauren will release a new EP called Vanity Metrics. Recorded over the course of two weeks, the project explores feelings of love, loss, and sorrow. These deep reflections are tied to the effort’s title, which “refers to useless music industry data,” and the way in which worth is now often dictated by hollow online algorithms. The heart of the EP is probably best conveyed on today’s single, “Closed Chapter”. The new track grapples with the vicious cycle of internet metrics: “algorithms fucking up mainstream beauty standards, acknowledging...
