Due to the surge of the omicron variant in New York City, Phish have postponed their New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden. The jam band legends had been scheduled to play a four-night residency at the Garden from December 29th to January 1st. Those shows have now been rescheduled for April 20th-23rd, 2022, including a three-set show (as originally planned for New Year’s Eve) on April 22nd. “The health and safety of Phish fans, our crew, and venue staff is paramount in our minds,” the band said in a statement announcing the postponement. “While Phish has played shows this year as the pandemic has continued, this variant’s ability for rapid transmission is unprecedented.” Advertisement Related Video “We are also mindful that a significant number of people travel for these shows and then r...
Latin artists delivered songs for every emotion we experimented in this roller coaster of a year, whether you were in the mood to hit the club with your BFFs or just chill in your room. If you were on the other end of the emotional spectrum, Nathy Peluso‘s salsa anthem “Mafiosa” is that bossed-up track about finding you self-worth and being the most powerful woman on the block. Leaning back comfortably in his Toronto home, a gold gramophone peeks out from behind producer Nineteen85’s head. “I was hoping I was covering it, but I guess I’m moving too much,” he says with a laugh. It’s not the Latin Grammy he won this year for best engineered album (C.Tangana’s El Madrileño), but an earlier win, as a writer on Drake’s hit, “Hotline Bling.” A fellow Toronto native and OVO Sound signee, ’85 co-produced some of the 6 God’s highest charting singles, including “One Dance” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Explore See latest videos, charts and news But that’s not what the decorated producer wants to focus on. The Marías bilingual debut, CINEMA, received a Grammy nomination last month for best engineered album, non-classical — a rarity for an album that features Spanish lyrics. The nomination in that category goes to the engineers and mastering engineers, not to the recording artist. However, Josh Conway, one of the L.A.-based indie pop quartet’s members, is credited as one of the engineers on the album. So, Conway is nominated, along with fellow engineers Marvin Figueroa, Josh Gudwin, Neal H. Pogue and Ethan Shumaker and mastering engineer Joe LaPorta. For Coldplay, the end of the line is in sight. Maybe. In a new interview for the BBC, Chris Martin has indicated Coldplay will hang up their guitars in 2025, a year that would mark a quarter century since their first album release, 2000’s Parachutes. The revelation comes in an interview Martin gave with Jo Whiley for BBC Radio 2, a snippet of which aired on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. “Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin says in a preview clip. “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog as it were finishes then.” Explore Explore Coldplay See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news There are several takeaways from Martin’s comments. At the turn of the year 2021, no one expected that the “Rookie of the Year” on the year-end Billboard K-Pop 100 would go to a male solo artist. Major entertainment companies had introduced brand-new bands such as aespa, ENHYPEN, Treasure and STAYC at the end of 2020 and most of us had our attention on them. To our surprise, a young male singer showed that he was not an ordinary rookie singer by setting the record for most No. 1 appearances on the Billboard K-Pop 100 in 2021. This up-and-coming star singer is Lee Mujin, who was the runner-up in Sing Again, JTBC’s music competition show. LCD Soundsystem have made a career out of iconic lines, from, “Daft Punk is playing at my house,” to “I’m losing my edge,” but nothing they’ve written has been quite as prescient as, “[U]s playing the show is no way an indicator that it’s safe to attend.” The band posted those words in a December 17th statement explaining why they wouldn’t be cancelling their residency at Brooklyn Steel, despite private misgivings and a COVID-19 surge in New York City. Two days later, they finally pulled the plug, bowing to outside pressure as well as a growing unease within the band. Before that happened, scores of concert-goers may have been infected with the novel coronavirus. Consequence has spoken to over a dozen people who attended the residency, all of whom say they have had at least the first ...
As the neighbor of Bob Dylan, author and journalist Merrill Markoe has become a celebrity reporter of sorts. For over a decade, she’s documented and analyzed the folk singer’s Christmas lights outside his Malibu home, and this year’s interpretation — Markoe’s last ever — has finally arrived. From half-assed string lights to basic plaster nativity scenes, Dylan’s decorations have prompted Markoe to ask one simple question: “What does it mean?” But the task has proven gruesome as the years have gone by. “Because people keep bugging me, here are you-know-who’s Xmas lights. For THE VERY LAST TIME,” Markoe wrote on Twitter. “But I can no longer take the strain of trying to translate such an obscure method of communication. See thread for my LAST interpretation EVER.” This year, Dylan resorted t...
