PinkPantheress Drops Debut Mixtape to hell with it: Stream

TikTok pop phenom PinkPantheress has dropped her debut mixtape to hell with it. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify. The British producer is about 20 years old, and that’s an estimate because she’s either cultivating an air of mystery, or just clinging to some semblance of privacy in our increasingly online world. Her music is steeped in turn-of-the-millennium sounds — what she has called the “new nostalgic.” In an interview with i-D, she talked about her fascination with the early aughts, explaining, “The music was so unpolished and cool because I feel like people weren’t afraid of being a little bit cringe. It was all way more experimental.” Advertisement Related Video This shows up in her samples, which can feel like an easter egg hunt for older listeners. Her...

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes Unveil New Album Sticky: Stream

UK punk rockers Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have just released their latest album, Sticky. The full LP is available to stream below. Sticky marks the band’s fourth album, following up 2019’s End of Suffering. Carter and company unveiled a few singles prior to the release, including “Sticky,” “My Town,” and “Get a Tattoo” (for which Heavy Consequence exclusively premiered the music video). “This entire record is a celebration of everything that has been taken away from us, the chaos that makes us human,” said Carter in a press release. “The emotional scavengers we are, hunting around in all the wrong places for an immediate feeling we can compartmentalize and inject straight into our hearts without fear of consequence.” Advertisement Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have establis...

Mike Portnoy’s Son Is Now Drumming for Code Orange

Legendary metal drummer Mike Portnoy’s son Max is now drumming for Code Orange, who are currently on tour as part of Slipknot’s “Knotfest Roadshow.” Going by the name “Mud Max” and donning a Mankind-style mask, Max Portnoy has appeared on drums during the band’s recent shows, though it is undetermined if it’s a permanent role. Singer Jami Morgan is the band’s studio drummer, but he has given up the role on tour to concentrate on being a frontman onstage. Ethan Young previously held the role of touring drummer, but now Max has taken over the drum kit during live gigs. Max, who also plays in the band Tallah, certainly brings an impressive pedigree to the Code Orange lineup. His father Mike is considered one of the greatest metal drummers of all time, having been the longtime stickman for pro...

Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres Is Completely Oblivious to Its Own Plight

On “Trouble In Town,” the third track on Coldplay’s 2019 LP Everyday Life, the band places a rather disturbing sound clip of a police officer rudely interrogating someone — this comes after Chris Martin’s solemn lament on unequal power structures and how they always “add more police,” and before a full-band psychedelic freak out of an outro, which is not necessarily what you’d associate with Coldplay. This was not an anomaly on the record; Everyday Life featured Coldplay at their most experimental, their most vital, and playing the riskiest music they’ve made in years. But what’s more, is that it sounded like Coldplay had changed, that over a span of 20 years as a band, they were almost more weathered and rugged. Fast forward to two years later; Coldplay have released their ninth studio al...

Adele’s “Easy on Me” Breaks Spotify Record for Most Single Day Streams

Even after six years away from the spotlight, Adele remains the biggest name in music. Case in point: her comeback single “Easy on Me” has set the Spotify record for most streams in a single day. Adele bested a record previously held by BTS, whose song “Butter” received 20.9 million global streams on May 23rd. Here at Consequence, we named “Easy on Me” our Song of the Week. In her accompanying writeup, contributing editor Mary Siroky said of the song, “It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s Adele through and through, and that might just be best case scenario right now. Turn it on for a long, reflective drive. Pour a cup of coffee and sit by the window looking forlorn. Resist the urge to call your ex. Adele is here for all of us.” Advertisement Related Video “Easy on Me” serves as the first sing...

For our favorite new songs from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, Adele breaks her lengthy hiatus with an extremely on-brand ballad. What is it that separates a moody piano ballad from an Adele song? Is it the undeniable vocals? The reflective nature of the lyrics, nostalgic and sad? The overwhelming desire to suddenly go stand outside in the rain? It’s probably all of the above, and with “Easy On Me,” Adele takes it easy on absolutely no one — not the listeners, and not herself. The record-breaking vocalist has shared that her upcoming album is entitled 30, and the only thing truly surprising a...
