Steve Gunn has announced a new album. It’s called Other You and it’s due out August 27th via Matador. To break the news, he’s releasing the two-song single “Other You” / “Reflection” today and has unveiled a string of US tour dates as well. Gunn has released a lot of records over the years, but technically speaking Other You is his sixth studio album and the follow-up to 2019’s The Unseen in Between. It was created with veteran producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) and Gunn’s longtime friend and collaborator Justin Tripp. It also features contributions from Julianna Barwick, Mary Lattimore, Jeff Parker, Bridget St. John, Bill MacKay, Ben Bertrand, and others. The Weeknd to Write, Produce, and Star In New HBO Series From Euphoria’s Sam Levinson
Soon, The Weeknd’s acting resume will consist of more than his perfect cameo in Uncut Gems: the singer born Abel Tesfaye is set to star in, co-write, and executive produce a new show coming to HBO Max. Titled The Idol, the upcoming drama comes from co-creator Sam Levinson, known for his work on Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie. Deadline reports that The Idol will center around a female pop singer who begins romantically seeing a mysterious LA club owner, the latter of the two just so happening to lead a secret cult on the side. Tesfaye and Levinson created the series together alongside “nightlife entrepreneur-turned-writer” Reza Fahim. We don’t know much else about the series yet, but we’re excited. Primavera Sound Coming to Los Angeles in 2022
Los Angeles is a city for showing up fashionably late, and Primavera Sound is nothing if not fashionable. The beloved Barcelona, Spain festival had hoped to debut an LA counterpart in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to cancel last May. After a brief flirtation with 2021, festival organizers have now settled on September 16th through the 18th of 2022. The good news is that the additional year’s wait comes with an extra date, as the two-day festival expands to a three-day weekend. Primavera Sound LA will take place at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, which has a capacity of about 25,000 people. Young Thug to Star in Tiffany Haddish-Produced Rap Musical Throw It Back
Young Thug is headed for the big screen. The rapper has been cast in an upcoming hip-hop musical called Throw It Back, which will be co-produced by Tiffany Haddish. According to a press release, the film will be a “dance-filled musical dramedy set to a soundtrack of southern hip-hop and HBCU collegiate band rhythms.” Additionally, Young Thug is set to executive produce the film’s soundtrack and release it on his own label, Young Stoner Life Records.
