As an independent publication with a deep foundation in live music, Consequence of Sound wanted to do our part to support the many venues facing hardship during pandemic. That’s why we were thrilled to see so many of our fans stepping up to aid the struggling concert industry by purchasing our “Protect Live Music” benefit long sleeve shirt. To keep the momentum going, we’re proud to launch a second version of the design, with proceeds once again going towards independent music venues in their recovering efforts. Designed again by Steve Fiche, “Protect Live Music Version 2” features new original art that pays tribute to everyone’s favorite concert activity: moshing. The piece was created as a tribute to the continuing hope we may all see a return to independent venues sooner rather than lat...

Shame have unveiled their new album Drunk Tank Pink. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. The record marks the sophomore release from the UK post-punk band, following the 2018 album Songs of Praise. The 11-track effort was initially announced back in November of last year, and it was preceded by three very strong singles — “Snow Day”, “Alphabet”, and “Water in the Well”. Unlike other loud-mouthed British contemporaries like Sleaford Mods and IDLES, Shame’s take on The Fall-inspired rock is a little less scraggly and a bit more polished. However, these shout-along melodies and taut grooves are balanced by cerebral lyrical concepts and grandiose music videos, so they’re by no means making music that’s devoid of challenging material. Editors’ Picks Drunk Tank Pink was produ...
AFI have unleashed two new songs — “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape From Los Angeles” — ahead of a new album planned for 2021. Both tracks can be heard in the visualizers below. The two new songs mark the veteran California rock act’s first new music since they dropped the five song EP The Missing Man in December 2018. When a new LP arrives, it will be the band’s first since 2017’s AFI (The Blood Album). “Twisted Tongues” explores AFI’s goth-rock side, while “Escape From Los Angeles” gives off more of a punk vibe — both highlighted by singer Davey Havok’s signature haunting vocals. “As I recall, ‘Twisted Tongues’ came of the Blood era and was the first piece of music we explored on the new album,” Havok explained of “Twisted Tongues” in a press release. “The dreaminess of the music lyrically ...
Foo Fighters (photo by Philip Cosores), Joe Biden, and Bruce Springsteen (photo by Rob DeMartin) Due to the global pandemic and threat of extremist violence, much of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration will be virtual. That includes a celebratory concert, which will come in the form of a 90-minute TV special broadcast on most of the major networks (Fox News not included). As previously reported, Tom Hanks is set the host the concert, which is officially called Celebrating America. The initial lineup of performers included Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, and Bon Jovi. Now, Biden and Harris have expanded the lineup by adding Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, and John Legend to the fold. The concert will also include remarks from Biden and Harris, as well as appearances from actresses Ev...

It’s unclear if the 2020s will have the Gatsby-esque excess of the 1920s, but nothing we’ve heard in 2021 screams for a wild party quite like the “Woah, Kenny!” tag over a sample of Fiddler on the Roof. Get on that level with Flo Milli, who has teamed up with Kenny Beats for her crackerjack new song “Roaring 20s”. Flo Milli erupted last year on her debut mixtape Ho, why is you here? With more hooks than a casting call for Peter Pan, the Alabama MC shook the rap world with a pair of surprise hits, “In the Party” and “Beef FloMix”. That success has brought her the attention of higher-profile collaborators. Kenny Beats has developed a reputation for working with rappers on the rise, and just in the last few years he’s joined forces with Freddie Gibbs, Vince Staples, Rico Nasty, and ...
Americans are more divided than at any time since the Civil War, but one thing we can seemingly all agree on is Dolly Parton. Now, as Associated Press reports, a Tennessee lawmaker has introduced a bill that would erect a statue of the Nashville legend standing on the grounds of the Capital building and facing the Ryman Auditorium — more popularly known as the Grand Ole Opry House. Representative John Mark Windle, a Democrat, introduced the bill last Tuesday. It seeks to celebrate Parton “for all that she has contributed to this state.” Philanthropy is one of the most dominant chords in Parton’s legend. Just recently, her Imagination Library gave away its 150 millionth book, she saved a nine-year-old’s life after pulling her out of a car’s path, showed support for the Black Lives Matter mo...
Bandcamp made a lot of indie artists happy last year by raising $40 million for musicians during their monthly Bandcamp Fridays campaign. The music platform is keeping that momentum going in 2021 with the announcement of a new initiative that’s possibly even more appealing: they’re going to press vinyl runs for 10,000 different artists on their platform. Back in 2019, the company quietly rolled out the pilot program for an in-house vinyl pressing service. According to an announcement on their website, Bandcamp pressed and shipped 13,000 vinyl units for 50 different artists. In 2021, the Oakland-based music marketplace is ambitiously inviting 200x the amount of musicians to participate in the program. Given that only a small handful of vinyl pressing plants are tasked with manufac...
Selena Gomez has unveiled her new Spanish-language single “De Una Vez”, which translates to, “At Once.” Produced by Tanya (Bad Bunny, J Balvin), “De Una Vez” is her first Spanish effort since 2018’s “Taki Taki” with DJ Snake and Ozuna, and it’s her first such solo foray since 2014’s “Más”. The new song comes paired with a video created by Los Pérez—Tania Verduzco and Adrián Pérez. Watch it below. And there’s probably more where that came from; as PopBuzz notes, multiple murals have appeared around Mexico and Brazil with the words “Selena Gomez,” “De Una Vez,” and “Baila Conmigo,” the latter of which means “dance with me.” When fans posted pictures of these murals, Gomez’s social media accounts have been smashing the ‘like’ button. It’s unclear at this time if “Baila Conmigo” is a song...
In our new music feature Origins, we give musicians the chance to explore the backstory behind their latest single. Today, Emile Mosseri tells us about composing the score to Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari. To help elevate the intimate storytelling of one of the best films of 2020, Minari, writer-director Lee Isaac Chung turned to composer Emile Mosseri. Mosseri knew well how to write the proper music for a unique family tale, as he had done recently for Miranda July’s Kajillionaire. Audiences will get to hear how he crafted a score befitting Chung’s beautiful American tale itself when Minari and its soundtrack are released wide on February 12th. One of the reasons Mosseri was able to pen such an evocative soundtrack is because of how early he he began working on the process. In what he cal...
