London-born saxophonist Nubya Garcia is currently on a wide-ranging tour of the US, but recently found some time in her schedule to stop by the NPR headquarters for a brand-new installment of the popular Tiny Desk series. Accompanied by her longtime bandmates Sam Jones (drummer) and Lyle Barton (keys) as well as a string section, Garcia ran through choice cuts off her recent album Odyssey, all while a stick of her bespoke incense burned in the background. The London-based septet has just announced a grip of news: a July 11 release date for their second studio album Tuff Times Never Last, a drop of "Sweetie," the project's lead single, and dates for an extensive tour of North America and Europe.A salute to West African disco, "Sweetie" is an upbeat, horns-led track that captures the fuzzy, bubbly feeling of being in love, while also featuring experimental synth sounds and unordinary drum patterns.
