Arcade Fire Announce New Album WE, Share “The Lightning I, II”: Stream

Arcade Fire have announced their new album. Entitled WE, the band’s sixth full-length is due out on May 6th via Columbia Records. As a preview, they’ve shared the first single, “The Lightning I, II.” Arcade Fire set out to record an album in February 2020, but when the pandemic began, Win Butler and Régine Chassagne decided to hunker down and write more songs instead of sticking with what they already had. “It was the longest we’ve ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever,” Butler said in a statement. The finished product, WE, is at once a double album and a practice in restraint. Seven songs unravel in 40 minutes, split between two sides: Side “I” deals in isolation, while Side “WE” revels in human connection. Lucius have teamed up with Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow on their new single “Dance Around It.” Stream the collab below. Cave In are returning with a new studio album, Heavy Pendulum, out May 20th on Relapse Records. The revived post-hardcore act also offered up the video for the lead single “New Reality.” The upcoming album will be Cave In’s first proper full-length since the passing of bassist/singer Caleb Scofield, who tragically died in a car accident in 2018. Converge’s Nate Newton has since stepped in on bass and vocals to complete the band’s new lineup. “Cave In’s been around for over 25 years now, and the time has come for an album that scales all of our creative peaks,” frontman Stephen Brodsky said in a press release. “Talk about a wild and weird ride! Mavis Staples and Levon Helm Collaborative Album Carry Me Home to Be Released

ANTI- Records has announced a collaborative album between Mavis Staples and the late Levon Helm titled Carry Me Home, out May 20th. The first single is their take on the gospel and blues standard “You Got to Move.” Carry Me Home marks one of Helm’s final recordings before his death in 2012. It comes from a session with Staples recorded at the former member of The Band’s Woodstock studio in the summer of 2011, which wound up being their last performance together. The 12-track album contains covers of songs made famous by Nina Simone, The Impressions, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones, as well as The Band’s own “The Weight.” Pre-orders are ongoing. Australian rock bands King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Tropical Fuck Storm have shared a collaborative EP titled Satanic Slumber Party. Stream it below. The three-track project was recorded while King Gizzard were working on their 2019 album Fishing for Fishies with Tropical Fuck Storm’s Gareth Liddiard. Canadian heavy metal progenitors Anvil are returning with their 19th studio album, Impact Is Imminent, on May 20th. The band has shared the video for lead single “Ghost Shadow” ahead of the release date. Billie Eilish and her brother/musical partner in crime FINNEAS have shared the track “1 True Love” today, one of their multiple contributions to Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red. The new movie — whose protagonist is a 13-year-old girl named Mei who can transform into a giant red panda — features a fictional boyband called 4*Town, and the real-life pop duo were tasked with writing all of the group’s songs for the soundtrack. Like the previously-shared “Nobody Like U,” “1 True Love” puts FINNEAS’ vocals at the forefront. But while the former song is a tried-and-true pop banger, this one takes things down a notch, resorting to a more balladic R&B-inspired sound. After six seasons, Peaky Blinders’ original soundtrack is finally getting the vinyl treatment via UMe. To celebrate the Cillian Murphy-starring drama’s final season, which is currently airing on the BBC, the album is set to be pressed on blood-red vinyl in a 3-LP package that drops May 27th.
