Frank Ocean Premieres New Nine-Minute Song: Stream

On Christmas, Frank Ocean returned with a new episode of blonded RADIO, and with it came the premiere of a brand new song from the R&B crooner. In introducing the song, Ocean said it was inspired by a conversation he had with Wim “The Iceman” Hof, a Dutch extreme athlete and motivational speaker who specializes in cold therapy and breathing techniques. As Ocean explained, he spoke to Hof about “the purpose of grief” in the wake of the passing of his brother, Ryan Breaux, last year. “We spoke for a while about his work, the purpose of grief, and how going into the cold water changed his life,” Ocean wrote on Instagram. “It reminded me of conversations in the studio with players I know. Freewheeling, psychedelic, emotionally charged, intelligent, and generous.” Advertisement Related Vide...

With Christmas just a mere few days away, now’s the time to soak in all the holiday spirit you can. Thankfully, K-pop “It” boys (and December Artist of the Month) TOMORROW X TOGETHER are here to help spread the cheer with their surprise carol song, “Sweet Dreams.” Produced by Slow Rabbit, “Sweet Dreams” is a mellow R&B jam, tailored for yuletide festivities with a jazzy piano riff and plenty of sleigh bells. With TXT members Yeonjun and Hueningkai co-writing the melody, and Soobin, Taehyun, and Hueningkai handling the song’s bilingual lyrics, the track is billed as a gesture of gratitude to the TXT fandom (aka MOA) for their persistent support and love in spite of a tumultuous couple of years. But most importantly, “Sweet Dreams” is TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s invitation to relax amid a part...

TNGHT Unveil New Single “Brick Figures”: Stream

Electronic duo TNGHT have released the new song “Brick Figures,” as well as its accompanying music video. Listen to the track below. The production team comprised of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice released “Brick Figures” as part of Glasgow label LuckyMe’s annual Advent Calendar charity compilation, which also features songs from Jacques Greene, Cid Rim, HIRA, and Seiho. Industrial sound effects make up the beat of the instrumental song, which Lunice described in a statement as “the kind of music Lego characters would be listening to on their own time.” Rather than Lego characters, however, two naked, distorted figures convulse under a strobe light in the song’s music video, directed by Dan Streit and Christopher Rutledge. RZA and Flatbush Zombies Drop New Song “Quentin Tarantino”: Stream

RZA and Flatbush Zombies are big Quentin Tarantino fans. Last week, the Wu-Tang MC teamed up with the hip-hop group for the Reservoir Dogs-inspired single “Plug Addicts,” and now, the artists are back with a song named after the director himself. Produced by RZA, Prince Paul, and Erick the Architect, “Quentin Tarantino” sees Flatbush Zombies rap over a slow, smoky guitar riff. Zombie Juice, Erick the Architect, and Meechy Darko blend references to characters real and imagined, noting, “Who killed Bill? They shot Kennedy/ Malcom layin’ dead, like how they gon’ level the playin’ field?” In the accompanying music video, directed by John Tashiro, RZA does his best Mr. Blonde while the Zombies roam Los Angeles in white suits. The rappers discussed the origin of “Quentin Tarantino” in a sta...

Posthumous Aaliyah Collab with The Weeknd “Poison” Released: Stream

Aaliyah’s original catalog hit streaming services for the first time earlier this year, and now, a posthumous album is on the way via Blackground Records 2.0 and EMPIRE. The late artist’s estate has just shared the first look at the record with the song “Poison,” a collaboration with The Weeknd. Most of Aaliyah’s music had been out of print for a decade because Barry Hankerson, Blackground Records founder and Aaliyah’s uncle, refused to license her catalog to streaming services. Only her 1994 debut, the R. Kelly-produced Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, had been on streaming services because Hankerson didn’t control its masters. In August, however, Hankerson revealed in an interview with Billboard that he had struck a deal with EMPIRE to release the rest of her catalog, as well as...

FKA twigs and The Weeknd Drop Collaborative Single “Tears in the Club”: Stream

FKA twigs and The Weeknd have teamed up for a new song called “Tears in the Club.” Produced by Arca, Cirkut, and El Guincho, the song comes with a music video directed by Amber Grace Johnson, which you can watch below. “Tears in the club ’cause your love has got me fucked up,” FKA twigs sings over ringing piano and heavy bass. The Weeknd’s verse comes later, when he begs the singer to “let it out like therapy.” In the music video, he does just that, as tears wet his face while he watches twigs dance. At one point, he’s shrunk down to the size of her hand and stands on her finger while she sings. It’s a fun visual all around. Last year, FKA twigs said she made an entire album during quarantine with El Guincho, but it has yet to be released. She last dropped the Central Cee collaboration “Me...

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Share “Les Cerfs” from Documentary Soundtrack: Stream

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis composed the soundtrack to Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier’s upcoming documentary La Panthère des Neiges, and today they’ve shared “Les Cerfs,” the second preview of the project. Listen to the song below. La Panthère des Neiges sees wildlife photographer Munier and novelist Sylvain Tesson traversing the Tibetan plateau, one of the most undisturbed wildlife sanctuaries in the world, in search of a snow leopard. With that in mind, “Las Cerfs” offers a similarly quiet vibe. Ethereal keys ring out as Cave, in his famous baritone, repeats the line, “I traveled a lot, unaware I was observed.” Perhaps he’s channeling the snow leopard in question. Ellis discussed the inspiration behind the soundtrack in the following statement: “There is something about the he...
