Oneohtrix Point Never Announces Blu-Ray Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, Shares Song with Elizabeth Fraser: Stream
Last October, Daniel Lopatin released Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, one of his strongest projects to date under his Oneohtrix Point Never moniker and one of our favorite albums of 2020. To celebrate its first anniversary, the Brooklyn-based electronic musician has announced a special Blu-Ray edition of the record, to be released on October 29th via Warp. Today, he’s shared a reimagining of “Tales from the Trash Stratum” that features guest vocals from Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser. The Blu-Ray edition of Magic Oneohtrix Point Never was mixed with Dolby Atmos, and it includes a few new bonus tracks aside from “Tales From the Trash Stratum”: a take of “Lost But Never Alone” reworked by PC Music’s A. Beyoncé and Audrey Hepburn have quite a bit in common. They’re both style and beauty icons, they’ve both contributed to human rights efforts, they’ve both appeared in legendary films — and now, they’ve both sang Henry Mancini’s “Moon River.” As a part of Queen Bey and JAY-Z‘s ongoing ad campaign with Tiffany & Co., the singer has shared a cover of the Breakfast at Tiffany‘s tune. Bey’s cover of “Moon River” arrives with a sweet 90-second clip, directed by Black Is King co-director Emmanuel Adjei. It pays homage to the 1961 film, opening with a shot of JAY-Z plunking away on a typewriter. James Blake’s new album Friends That Break Your Heart has been delayed until October, another casualty of the worldwide vinyl crunch that’s been exacerbated by COVID-19. To avoid undue heartbreak before the record’s release, Blake is tiding fans over with the new song “Famous Last Words.” This is Blake at his most melancholic and miserable. “And I can’t believe I’m still talking about you,” he sings over softly pulsing synths. “That feeling/ I should’ve lost it/ I should’ve lost it by now.” It also includes one of the better lines about a breakup in recent memory: “You’re the last of my old things/ The cast from my broken limbs.” Check out “Famous Last Words” below. Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilmister Duet on New Version of “Hellraiser”: Stream
Ozzy Osbourne has shared a new version of “Hellraiser” featuring a duet with late Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister. The track will be included on the upcoming expanded 30th anniversary reissue of Ozzy’s No More Tears album, due out this Friday (September 17th). “Hellraiser” was one of four songs co-written by Ozzy and Lemmy for No More Tears (as well as “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” “Desire,” and “I Don’t Want to Change the World”). Motörhead then recorded their own version of “Hellraiser” and released it as a single from their 1992 album, March ör Die. The new version combines Lemmy’s 1992 vocal track with Ozzy’s vocals on the original No More Tears track, bringing the two iconic voices together on one recording. Kim Gordon’s Body/Head Announce New Album with Wolf Eyes’ Aaron Dilloway, Share “Goin’ Down”: Stream
After the dissolution of her band Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon teamed up with experimental guitarist Bill Nace to form the duo Body/Head. Now, that project is expanding with the addition of former Wolf Eyes member Aaron Dilloway for the aptly titled Body/Dilloway/Head. Today, the newly-formed trio have announced their self-titled debut, out November 19th via Three Lobed Recordings. As a preview, they’ve shared the song “Goin’ Down.” Body/Dilloway/Head combines Gordon’s pioneering alt-rock spirit with Nace and Dilloway’s knack for boundary-breaking experimentation. The album is three tracks long, with its opener clocking in at 17 minutes and the last track being over 13 minutes. Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe has teamed up with Saudade for a cover of Joy Division‘s “Day of the Lords.” Billed as a “creepy” rendition of an already haunting song, Saudade heavy it up with a smattering of instruments (guitars, steel drums, organ, synths, etc). Meanwhile, Blythe lays down his vocals with reverence to the song’s original singer, the late Ian Curtis. “I’ve always wanted to cover ‘Day of the Lords,’” remarked Blythe in a press release. “In my opinion, it is the heaviest of Joy Division’s songs. After nearly two decades away, what better time for Sneaker Pimps to return than in 2021? Today, the cult trip-hop band return with their long-awaited fourth studio album, Squaring the Circle, out now via Orphic. Squaring the Circle was written, performed, and produced by founding members Sneaker Pimps members Chris Corner and Liam Howe. It spans 16 tracks total, many of which feature guest vocals from Berlin-based singer Simonne Jones. The album was recorded between Sawtooth Studios in Pioneertown, California, and London’s Tower Studios. Green Day are celebrating their just-wrapped “Hella Mega Tour” with an official live version of the KISS classic “Rock and Roll All Nite.” During the summer trek with Weezer and Fall Out Boy, Green Day covered the iconic KISS tune at every one of the outing’s 21 shows. Today (September 10th), Billie Joe Armstrong and company released the live rendition, complete with a music video showing highlights from the tour. The “Hella Mega Tour,” which also featured Weezer and Fall Out Boy, wrapped up a few days ago in Seattle. Unlike KISS’ own current tour, during which Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons both contracted COVID-19, Green Day made it through unscathed. Sleigh Bells return today with their new album, Texis. The New York noise-pop duo’s sixth studio set, released via Mom+Pop, has technically been in the works since 2017, and was recorded between members Alexis Krauss and Derek E. Miller’s homes. Texis spans 11 tracks in total, and includes the previously-released singles “Locus Laced,” “Justine Go Genesis,” and “True Seekers.” Though it’s been over a full decade now since Sleigh Bells’ acclaimed debut, Treats, Texis still feels right in line with the band’s gritty, proto-hyperpop roots.
