BADBADNOTGOOD have shared “Beside April,” a new preview of their upcoming album Talk Memory. Watch the music video, directed by Cammille Summers-Valli, below. “Beside April” follows the Canadian jazz-fusion ensemble’s July track “Signal from the Noise,” the lead single from Talk Memory. The upcoming project is described as a “heartfelt expression of joy” and features a lineup of guest artists including Arthur Verocai, Karriem Riggins, Terrace Martin, Laraaji, and harpist Brandee Younger. “It took a year or two of just living life to get to the place where the creative process was exciting again,” BBNG said in a statement about Talk Memory. “Once we actually went into the studio it was the most concise recording and writing process we’ve ever had. We hope that the improvised studi...
Our new music feature Origins gives artists the chance to offer insights into the creative process behind their latest release. Today, Aly & AJ talk about the inspiration behind “Get Over Here,” the first deluxe track from their 2021 album a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun. It’s been four months since Aly & AJ hit the bullseye (baby!) with their fourth studio album, a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun. As the band’s first full-length studio effort in almost a decade and a half, the 12-track collection found the eponymous sister act shrugging off the pulsating electro-pop that had inspired a pair of prior EPs (2017’s Ten Years and 2019’s Sanctuary) and string of recent singles in favor of a mor...
The first leaves in Chicago are beginning to turn, which means it’s the perfect weather to listen to the Windy City’s own Tasha. The singer/songwriter has announced her new album Tell Me What You Miss the Most, out November 5th, and shared the lead single “Perfect Wife.” The follow-up to 2018’s Alone at Last was produced by Tasha alongside Eric Littman. As she tells it, the new album shows significant artistic growth. “When I made Alone at Last, I had only been writing songs for two years. I hardly even knew what kind of song writer I was,” she said in a statement. “But this record feels much stronger as far as a representation of my songwriter and musicianship. I did feel like I was piloting it in a way that I haven’t really felt before.” You can hear some of that...

Amyl & the Sniffers are gearing up to release their new album Comfort to Me, and as a final preview the Aussie punks have shared their latest single, “Hertz.” A bruising ode to rental car fun, “Hertz” finds singer Amy Taylor chafing under her city routine. “I want to go to the country,” she snarls, “I want to get out of here.” Taylor pines for wide open spaces, and the gentleness of her lyrical vision has to war with the brutal guitar lick that gives the song its forward thrust. “‘Hertz’ is a daydream of wanting to go to the country/bush and see landscapes other than the city,” Taylor said in a statement. “It was written in 2019 but it very much sounds like a pandemic song, because it’s a daydream about being repulsed by confinement, and frustrated over being stuck in one pl...

Toward the end of last year, Phoebe Bridgers started her own record label called Saddest Factory Records, and this past spring signed the Los Angeles synthpop trio MUNA. Today, MUNA have shared their first single since joining the label, “Silk Chiffon,” featuring a verse from Bridgers herself. If “Silk Chiffon” is meant to reintroduce MUNA to old fans and new listeners alike, then it goes above and beyond in summarizing what makes the group so much fun. It’s an unabashedly pop number with airy guitars and a vocal melody that will get stuck in your head all week. According to Naomi McPherson, the band’s guitarist and producer, “Silk Chiffon” was written in hopes of being “a song for kids to have their first gay kiss to.” “Silk Chiffon” arrives with a vibrant music video in tow. As part of a new compilation benefiting the family members of homicide victims, Dr. Dog have shared a previously unreleased song called “Loneliness.” The track is featured on Luz de Vida II: A Compilation to Benefit Homicide Survivors. Ten years ago, Tucson, Arizona and the nation were shaken by a mass shooting that claimed the lives of six and injured 19 others — with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords amongst the latter. In response, Fort Lowell Records launched the Luz de Vida benefit project, with 100% of proceeds going to aid and comfort survivors through the Tucson Together Fund. Now, to mark the 10th anniversary of that tragedy, they’ve put together a second charity compilation. Due out November 5th to coincide with Tuscon’s All Soul’s Procession community ceremony, Luz da Vida I...
Like a goofy-footed DeLorean, Tony Hawk’s skateboard can travel backwards in time. As proof, look no further than the new video of the legendary skater singing (!?) a cover of Millencolin’s “No Cigar,” which will transport you to the year 2000, when your back never hurt, the art world yawned at the election between Bush and Gore, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 had just hit the shelves. If you were fortunate enough to play the original run of Pro Skater games, then you’ll remember the soundtracks, which did as much to advance the art of video games as any graphical upgrade. For this new cover of “No Cigar,” Hawk was joined on guitary by Mikey Hawdon of Fairmounts, as well as Millencolin’s Nikola Sarcevic on bass, pro skater Steve Caballero on a guitar shaped like a sk...
Lillie West’s Lala Lala has shared a new track called “Prove It.” Serving the third single from the project’s forthcoming third full-length, I Want the Door to Open, the track is available to stream below. Sparse yet driving, “Prove It” is an appraisal of those who strive for nothing but the concept of more. As West herself says, it’s “a song about insatiable people and the idea of ‘good’ vs ‘bad.’ It’s about lack of control. Even though this song is accusatory, I relate to the person I’m talking to. I think sometimes when we criticize other people we’re also talking about ourselves.” Previous I Want the Door to Open singles include the Nnamdï Ogbonnaya-assisted “DIVER” and “Color of the Pool.” To further tease the LP, Lala Lala has shared a new informercial, “Open the Door: Find Your...

Drake has leaked an unreleased collaboration between Kanye West and André 3000. The Certified Lover Boy rapper played the track, titled “Life of the Party,” early Saturday morning during a guest DJ set on SiriusXM’s Sound 42 radio show. “Life of the Party” appears to be a diss track aimed at Drake, as Kanye takes several swipes at the Toronto rapper. “I put Virgil and Drake on the same text/ And it wasn’t about the matching arc’teryx or Kid Cudi dress,” Kanye raps, referencing his recent text exchange with Drake and former collaborator/fashion designer, Virgil Abloh. “Just told these grown men stop it with the funny shit/ I might hire the whole team from ACG/ So don’t text me like I’m Juanita JCV.” A few bars later, Kanye fires off another warning shot: “Told Drake don’t play with me on GD...
