Megadeth Unleash Crushing New Song “Soldier On!”: Stream

Megadeth have shared “Soldier On!,” the latest single from their forthcoming album The Sick, The Dying…and the Dead! arriving September 2nd. The new song comes a week before Megadeth’s co-headlining tour with Five Finger Death Punch. The outing kicks off August 19th in Portland, Oregon, and runs through October 15th in Salt Lake City. You can buy tickets via Ticketmaster. “Solider On!” calls back to Countdown to Extinction with its groove metal riffs and prominent vocal melodies. It’s the most compact and accessible single we’ve heard from the new album thus far. And according to Dave Mustaine’s comments in the press release, it might have been inspired by the ousting of former bassist David Ellefson. Danger Mouse and Black Thought Share Posthumous MF DOOM Collaboration “Belize”: Stream

Though Danger Mouse and Black Thought shared several a handful of stellar collaborations in anticipation of their new album, Cheat Codes, they held back a track with the late MF DOOM titled “Belize.” Now that the album is out in the wild, we can finally get ears on the reunion between the three artists. Danger Mouse’s production on “Belize” is steeped in soul, with warm brass and a hypnotic bassline making way for each MC to spit a dizzying array of bars. Even without a chorus to bridge the gap, the track still transitions from Black Thought’s precise delivery to DOOM’s less structured flow with ease. When two of the greatest rappers of all time appear back to back, song structure is basically irrelevant. “You checking the Top 2 of a thousand intelligent chaps,” Black Thought boasts. ...

BLACKSTARKIDS Announce New Project CYBERKISS*, Share “SEX APPEAL”: Stream

BLACKSTARKIDS are back with the announcement of their new project, CYBERKISS*, out September 23rd via Dirty Hit. As a first preview, they have shared a fresh track called “SEX APPEAL.” Check it out below. CYBERKISS* marks the follow-up to the Kansas City group’s 2021 debut album, Puppies Forever. The 17-song collection features a sole collaboration with labelmate beabadoobee. Check out the artwork and tracklist below; pre-orders are ongoing. Calling back to early aughts hip-hop, “SEX APPEAL” is a maximalist hit of braggadocio from BLACKSTARKIDS, as TheBabeGabe, TyFaizon, and Deiondre rap over blaring sirens and quirky percussion. “I’m up for the night, I don’t need a pill/ Don’t talk to me unless you got sex appeal,” the trio insist. In the single’s music video, they dance around a washed-...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Are Aflame on New Single “Burning”: Stream

The great return of Yeah Yeah Yeahs continues today with the New York City indie stalwarts’ latest single “Burning,” the next preview of their forthcoming album Cool It Down. Produced by Andrew Wyatt, “Burning” is pure disco-coated dance floor fuel. It’s driven by a vigorous piano riff, inspired by Frankie Valli’s “Beggin’” as well as Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” The story of the song dates back to a fateful night when Karen O was 19: The vocalist had gone out for an impromptu drink with her roommate, and returned shortly after to find her East Village apartment engulfed in flames due to a candle she’d forgotten to put out. All her electronics, including her computer and cameras, were completely destroyed. “But oddly enough the items that held the most sentimental value rem...

Santigold Dares You to “Shake” on New Single: Stream

Santigold is closing in on the release of her comeback album Spirituals. Ahead of its September 9th release, the indie veteran has shared another preview of what’s to come today with the single “Shake,” produced by SBTRKT. At just under two minutes, “Shake” doesn’t let its brevity prevent it from packing a punch. SBTRKT bolsters the song with a puttering, slightly off-kilter beat that feels a little reminiscent of Radiohead’s “Kid A,” as Santigold sings a message of perseverence over an ascending synth loop: “I won’t buckle under pressure/ Imma be alright/ I will never follow/ If I know the way/ But if you got my back/ I got you, set your worry free.” “‘Shake’ is one of those songs…that basically write themselves, and all you have to do as the artist is be open enough to reach out and...

Open Mike Eagle Announces New Tape Component System with the Auto Reverse, Shares “i’ll fight you”: Stream

Open Mike Eagle set to return this year with Component System with the Auto Reverse, his forthcoming mixtape via his own Auto Reverse Records. Before its release on October 7th, the rapper is previewing the project today with the new single “i’ll fight you.” Component System with the Auto Reverse is Mike’s eighth full-length project to date, and from what we’ve heard about it so far, it might also be one of his most sonically eclectic. With some high-profile collaborators including Madlib, Diamond D, and Quelle Chris, the 14-track record is embellished with jazzy boom-bap, blips of hard rock, cartoon show samples, and more — all grounded in Mike’s progressive approach to hip-hop. As for the inspirations behind Component System with the Auto Reverse, Mike drew from some of hi...

Pixies Unveil “Vault of Heaven” and Four-Date US Tour: Stream

Pixies go on an epic journey from a 7-11 to the “Vault of Heaven” on their newest single. The track appears on their September 30th album, Doggerel, and if you live in California or New York, you’ll be able to hear it live on the band’s newly-announced four-date US tour. “Vault of Heaven” would seem to be about a bad drug trip, but that depends on a rare word they’re using often, “titrate.” As in, “There in the vault of heaven/ While trying to titrate/ I ended up in another case/ I went to 7-11 to try and get me straight/ I ended up there in outer space.” Most commonly, titration is an attempt to measure the concentration of a chemical, though in medicine the term is sometimes used when adjusting a dosage. Either way, the process doesn’t seem to be going well for Pixies. Black Fr...

The Isley Brothers and Beyoncé Tease New Collaboration: Listen

The Renaissance isn’t over yet: Just a week and a half after releasing her long-awaited seventh solo album, Beyoncé is teaming up with The Isley Brothers for a remix of the band’s 1975 song, “Make Me Say It Again Girl (Part 1 & 2).” Ronald Isley teased a clip of the new version on Instagram today ahead of the full song’s proper release this Friday, August 12th. If you want to hear the full version of Bey on “Make Me Say It Again Girl,” it looks like iHeart Radio subscribers can tune in as early as tomorrow: “WORLD PREMIERE of what we’ve been working on starting at 10am est and every hour on the hour over on your favorite @iheartradio station,” Isley wrote with the Instagram clip. It’s a short sample, but it’s still enough to tell us that Bey, as per usual, sounds fantastic. C...

The Big Pink Announce New Album The Love That’s Ours, Share “Rage”: Stream

After returning with a pair of singles earlier this year, The Big Pink have announced their new album, The Love That’s Ours. Due out on September 30th via Project Melody Music, it will mark the indie rock band’s first new album in a decade. The Love That’s Ours was produced by Tony Hoffer — whose credits include Beck, Air, and Phoenix — and features The Big Pink’s current lineup of frontman Robbie Furze, drummer Akiko Matsuura, and the new addition of bass guitarist Charlie Barker. The band collaborated with the likes of Jamie T, The Kills’ Jamie Hince, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Ryn Weaver, Mary Charteris, Ed Harcourt, and more on the record. “Getting to this point has been one of the craziest journeys in my life. I truly thought this day would never come,” said Furze in a stateme...

Madonna Passes the Baton to Beyoncé in “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)”: Stream

The OG Queen of Pop has officially given her blessing to Queen Bey. Madonna and Beyoncé have teamed up for the aptly titled, “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).” As the first single from Renaissance, “Break My Soul” introduced us to Beyoncé’s new disco-influenced, club-ready era. It makes total sense, then, that the “Queens Remix” would center on a sample of “Vogue,” Madonna’s 1990 classic that helped introduce Ballroom culture to a greater audience. It doesn’t appear that Madonna offered any new vocals to “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix),” but rather gave Beyoncé permission to use “Vogue”‘s famous piano riff (which is important, given recent discourse surrounding Beyoncé’s failure to secure permission before sampling songs). Of course, Beyoncé wouldn’t just sample “Vogue” withou...

Drowning Pool Announce New Album, Honor Pantera’s Dimebag and Vinnie Paul with Single “Mind Right” Stream

Drowning Pool are returning with the new album, Strike a Nerve, on September 30th. The band has also paid tribute to the late Pantera members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul with the lead single “Mind Right.” Honoring their fellow Texans, the Dallas-based Drowning Pool wrote the song shortly after Vinnie Paul died in 2018. The tight groove-thrash riffing certainly has a Pantera lean, and the vocals of Jasen Moreno shift between harsh and melodic a la Phil Anselmo. “‘Mind Right’ started with the core Drowning Pool sound, then really dug into our southern metal roots,” remarked guitarist CJ Pierce. “This song was written not long after Vinnie Paul died, as a tribute of sorts to him and Dime and a way for us to to honor the impact Pantera had on our local Dallas scene.” Advertisement Related ...
