Back in January, Father John Misty teased a snippet of Lana Del Rey covering his Chloë and the Next 20th Century cut “Buddy’s Rendezvous.” Now, the track has now been brought to all streaming services after previously only being available as a 7-inch single included in the limited edition box set of the album. Listen to it below. With airy, piano-driven production highlighted by strings and a saxophone, “Buddy’s Rendezvous” is the perfect match for Del Rey’s throwback aesthetic. Even though FJM has said the song is written from the perspective of a man who gives some “pretty shitty advice” to his daughter after getting out of the prison, certain lyrics like “What’s the point of being everybody’s girl?/ Maybe you think that way there’s no chance getting hurt/ Living for no one costs me...
Santigold has announced her new album, Spirituals, out September 9th. As a preview, she unleashed the defiant single “Ain’t Ready.” For Spirituals, Santigold recruited a list of contributors including Rostam, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Boys Noize, JakeOne, Doc McKinney, Psymun, Ricky Blaze, Lido, Ray Brady, and Ryan Olson. In a statement, the artist revealed how she got over writer’s block. “Recording this album was a way back to myself after being stuck in survival mode,” Santigold explained. “It wasn’t until I made the space to create that I realized I wasn’t only creating music but a lifeline. California was on fire, we were hiding from a plague, the social justice protests were unfolding. I’d never written lyrics faster in my life. After having total writer’s block, they started...
Bret McKenzie is taking a pause from his comedy group Flight of the Conchords and swooping towards his first-ever solo album Songs Without Jokes this summer. Before the LP is released on August 26th via Sub Pop, the New Zealand musician has shared another sample of it today with the new single “Dave’s Place.” Like most of his songs, McKenzie originally wrote “Dave’s Place” on his guitar at home. What began as a simple country tune eventually grew into a “Dire Straits-esque” blues-rock jam after bringing it to the studio with producer Mickey Petralia in Los Angeles. Despite the song’s peppy, sunshiney flair, the meaning of its lyrics is much more bittersweet. “The song is called ‘Dave’s Place’ after the late Dave Bianco,” McKenzie explains in a press release. “Dave was an amazing audio...
Preoccupations have revealed their upcoming fourth LP Arrangements, which is set to arrive on September 9th. The four-piece also unveiled the album’s lead single, “Ricochet,” as well as dates for their North American tour this fall. Arrangements was recorded in two parts: first in a series of studio sessions in Montreal during Fall 2019 where most of the album’s bedrock instrumentation was recorded, and then in individual home studio setups over a period of 16 months amid COVID-19 lockdowns, where each band member completed their parts and tinkered with new ideas separately. Produced completely by the band, Arrangements was then mixed by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control). The extended, isolated sessions found the band reaching for more guitar-oriented tun...

Composer Tee Lopes handled the “We Ain’t Come to Lose” beat, with throwback sounds that made the Wu-Tang Clan members feel right at home. Here, the old friends find themselves on different sides of the reptilian war. Ghost is in straight villain mode, boasting, “I defeat Leonardo, y’all become the weaklings/ I take off all of your masks and dismantle your features/ Shredder, I crossed the line like a letter/ Smash all of you turtles, put you back together.” Meanwhi...

Rise Against have surprise released a new EP titled Nowhere Generation II, along with the video for the track “Last Man Standing.” The EP is a companion release to last year’s Nowhere Generation full-length album and contains new material, including the aforementioned single “Last Man Standing.” The song features passionately sung vocals and narrative lyrical content, with an underbelly of surging guitars. The video is also quite entertaining, as the band and others attempt to escape the pinpoint accuracy of a long-range female archer. Advertisement “‘Last Man Standing’ was a way of expressing some frustration with our world in regards to exploitation, public alienation and human inequality,” explains director Ryan Valdez. “As you see in the video, we are fed through this race of survival....

The heavy-hitting track pays off its high expectations in full though, with an incomparable, winning chemistry between its three stars. It’s the first time the Grammy-winning producer and 21 Savage have appeared together on a song, though the Atlanta rapper openly shared his admiration for Williams when he dubbed him the “king of drip” in January via Twitter. The history between Pharrell and Tyler spans nearly the entire existence of the latter’s career, all the way back to “IFHY” on 2013’s WOLF. The elder producer...
