Legendary composer and Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman seems to have diverted from his plan to release a new track on the 11th of every month in 2021. Unless you don’t count remixes. Or unless he meant that he would release a new song every 11th while also surprising people with the occasional track between them. Regardless of how he intends to proceed with his monthly plan, Elfman just dropped a remix of “Kick Me” (originally released on March 11) created with Death Grips drummer Zach Hill. “I was a big fan of Death Grips and Zach Hill’s work, and so appreciative to have him jump in with his creative energy,” Elfman said in a statement. Check out the new remix below. [embedded content] Before the two versions of “Kick Me,” Elfman was busy working on brand new tracks like “Sorry” and “H...
Established in 1977, Unidisc Music has grown exponentially over the years to become one of Canada’s largest independent record labels. With a lifespan over four decades long, their extensive catalog has been immersed in pop culture through the years, even appearing in iconic television shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sex and the City, and Grey’s Anatomy, among others. To celebrate the evolution of dance music, Unidisc has enlisted some of the world’s most renowned electronic music artists to produce exceptional remixes of the label’s music. This endeavor, called the “Reimagining Campaign,” was created by Francis Cucuzzella—son of founder George Cucuzzella—as a way to modernize some of the imprint’s timeless classics. Francis’...
Boasting a vibrant and uplifting sound that has brightened dancefloors around the world over the past few years, Slow Magic is one of the most celebrated anonymous artists within the dance music sphere. The artist’s widespread success allowed him to establish a loyal following and tour extensively, and ultimately led to his most ambitious body of work, it’s the end of the world, but it’s ok. The 12-track album was released to critical acclaim via Moving Castle in late 2020, and featured the likes of Manila Killa, RUNN, Paperwhite and more. Now, Slow Magic is back in a major way, sharing an acoustic version of lead album single “Somewhere” with Woven In Hiatus. “Somewhere (Acoustic)” is a stunning rendition of the original, driven by a minimal ar...
Following the news of Daft Punk‘s shocking split in February 2021, the music community at large flung headlong into hysteria. Naturally, a barrage of tributes flooded social media, ranging from sheer disbelief to unadulterated admiration. While many paid homage to the legendary electronic music duo via social media eulogies, Hood Politics Records went a different route. To celebrate the legacy of Daft Punk, the renowned tastemaker and underground label put together Daft Punk Forever, a scintillating 12-track compilation of remixes that breathe new life into the beloved robots in their absence. Contributing brilliant remixes are House Divided, Broken Future and Stund, DONT BLINK, BINGEWATCH, Rich DietZ, Victor Bari, Galo, Kuestenklatsch, Cyboy, UNDRGNDCTRL, Kai Zen, and the trio of Nu...
There’s an escalating output of new music from the elusive Nero trio. The group has just dropped their third remix within a week. Prior to their latest run of releases, the group had remained dark for two years. It’s no secret that 80s era sonics and aesthetics have played a substantial role in shaping the Nero we know today. For their latest remix, the trio put a new spin on one of the decade’s most recognizable hits, Frankie Goes to Hollywood‘s 1984 hit “Relax.” While it’s clear from the outset this is a Nero remix based on the sweeping textures, punchy kicks, and robotic basses, Nero is careful to build ample suspense before truly throwing listeners for a loop. As Holly Johnson calls out in earnest, “Hit me with your laser b...
Major Lazor and Diplo’s long-awaited collaboration with Sia and Labrinth has finally arrived. Since confirming the 2021 release of “Titans” back in October, fans have been eagerly waiting for the mega-collaboration to drop. While Diplo and Sia have worked together and remained close collaborators and friends over the years, the two teamed up with multiplatinum singer-songwriter and producer Labrinth to form the supergroup LSD, dropping powerhouse singles throughout 2018 before their self-titled 2019 debut EP. After a year full of teasing, “Titans” has arrived on the deluxe edition of the group’s latest album, Music Is The Weapon. Released in 2020, the album features an array of fresh collaborations with Alessia Cara, French Montana, Nicki Minaj, Skip Marley...
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has listed a new recording called “Not Yesterday,” which seems to have been penned by Swedish House Mafia under the Universal Music Group umbrella. Following the group’s last album, 2012’s Until Now, and surprise separation in 2013, each member of the iconic three-piece electronic music outfit went on to create their own individual music. Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello eventually reunited in 2018 to perform at Ultra Music Festival, but still left fans without information on the future of new music as group. It’s always a good day when deadmau5 shares new music. Today fans were treated to a new track called “Nextra,” which arrived by way of deadmau5’s new hau5trap imprint. His first release on the label, the single is a vintage, spine-chilling deep house cut. With a rolling four-on-the-floor house rhythm and quirky plucks, it’s reminiscent of his earlier work, à la 2010’s 4×4=12 album. Known for his penchant for challenging genre standards, deadmau5 does just that in the song’s break with a music unique production method. Here, he produces his typically spacey synths, but delays them in a warped cadence, making for a subtle yet forward-thinking technique that drives “Nextra” home. You can listen to “Nextra” b...
Waxahatchee’s 2020 album, Saint Cloud just hit its one-year anniversary, and to celebrate the landmark, Katie Crutchfield did what 2020 wrought for musicians: a live-streamed show. The content within that livestream beautifully evolved into a deluxe edition of Saint Cloud featuring three covers: Lucinda Williams’ “Fruits of My Labor,” Dolly Parton’s 1977 gem “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” and Bruce Springsteen’s poignant HIV/AIDS song “Streets of Philadelphia.” Crutchfield adds her own peaceful spirit and indie-twang to each song. The new collection of music is titled Saint Cloud +3 and can be found on all streaming services and BandCamp. Saint Cloud arrived just as world-wide lockdowns were in place last year, so her first project since 2018’s Great Thunder&nbs...
Over the last five years, young independent artists have found themselves in a new golden age of visibility. There’s a vast pool of talent located outside the reaches of the mainstream label ecosystem, and 23-year-old producer Aibai is one of them. Now, with the release of her debut Glow EP, the sky’s the limit for her budding career. Released March 27th, Glow‘s four tracks are a collectively smooth and consistent take on the ever-popular indietronica niche. A clear contemporary of this discipline, influences include Foreign Family Collective exports Jai Wolf, ford. and Kasbo and indie pop counterparts Clairo, Jay Som and Crumb. But where others have settled into the shadows of these established sounds, Glow carves its own path, daringly...
Slushii has paid tribute to one of the biggest anime shows out there with a new dubstep remix of Attack on Titan‘s current theme song. Originally recorded by the Japanese rock group Shinsei Kamattechan, “My War” took over as the theme of the show on the premiere of its fourth and final season late last year. Leaving the iconic, catchy vocals from the beginning of the original largely intact, Slushii, an overt anime and manga fan, eases listeners into the rework. After introducing some vocal samples from the show, he unleashes chaotic, choppy bass at a scale as epic as the battles depicted in the series. Fans of both the show and the producer took to social media in droves to share their admiration for the remix, which was created and released in just one day. You can...
