Kaskade‘s influence is one of the furthest-reaching in electronic music, as the prolific artist has continuously released high-caliber tracks that impress both fans and critics alike. His latest endeavor sees him delivering a series of off-the-rails singles via Monstercat Silk, in partnership with Rocket League. Today, those tunes have been packaged as an EP called Reset. Kaskade is the first artist to curate a release that coincides with Rocket League‘s ongoing second season. “While I felt a little pressure, it was mostly just an amazing time to pull together songs that could really go along with the various moods that we go through while immersed in a game,” he said in a press release. Reset captures the essence of Kaskade’s timeless sound while si...
Eclectic dance music duo Duck Sauce, comprised of world-renowned producers A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, had a huge comeback in 2020 after a six-year hiatus. Now, they’ve returned in 2021 with their latest disco anthem “Ask Me.” “Ask Me” continues Duck Sauce’s streak of groovy house tracks and is a direct follow-up to their recent release “Mesmerize.” Opening with a soulful, old-school vocal sample, the duo wasted no time enchanting listeners. The intro is quickly followed by a toe-tapping house rhythm, highlighted by jam band-like guitar plucks and punchy percussion. Duck Sauce has been on a roll as of late and we can only hope that they keep up with their consistent release schedule. Listen to “Ask Me” below and find t...
Since his early days producing in the electronic music space, Xavi has been lauded as one of the most exciting young talents in the industry. His sound is often compared to the likes of Madeon and Porter Robinson, as the St. Louis native’s music mirrors similar emotive sound design. Today his debut album To The Endless Searing Skies has arrived via Seven Lions‘ Ophelia Records. To The Endless Searing Skies encapsulates every aspect of Xavi’s sound, allowing the budding producer to be wholly himself through the entirety of the LP. “By getting to use my own voice on this, I’ve been able to say so much, not only through my words but also through my instrumentation,” he said. Through each of its 10 tracks, To The Endless Searing Skies ac...
KRANE‘s time in the music industry has included a number of impressive and arguably seminal releases, like his stellar 2017 album Fallout. His classic SESSIONS collections are equally as exciting, allowing him to collaborate with unheralded artists and grant them much-deserved time in the limelight. Today, KRANE has delivered his sophomore album, Getting Better via Dim Mak. Getting Better is sonically different from KRANE’s previous works, tackling a relaxed, indie-infused sound that most fans may not find familiar. Each of its seven tracks tells a unique tale, with collaborations with the likes of Panama and Cece Valor adding an extra layer of emotion. KRANE’s message feels fully transparent, creating a deep, personal feeling on the album. Though each tune on G...
There is a new mysterious artist on the scene and she goes by the name LŪN. While her identity remains a mystery, we can get to know her through her debut single “bitches,” a fiery electronic tune arriving by way of Fueled By Ramen. “bitches” opens with hypnotic pads, which slowly engulf listeners as they slither through the arrangement. The angelic soundscapes ebb and flow as the intensity builds before a ticking clock leads you into a siren song, which culminates in a manic midtempo drop. There’s only one lyric uttered throughout the entirety of the track—you can surely guess what it is—but its delivery and timing pack a powerful punch. “There is a lot of cause for yelling these days and everyone does it, on social media, in the news, at eac...
Los Angeles-based house music producer and DJ Tyler Young has made an emphatic debut with a new single titled “My Time.” For his first release, Young has delivered a vibrant track with a funk-filled bassline, plucky melodic strings, and shimmering synths. “My Time” is also layered over hair-raising vocals courtesy of an impressive Haley May. With the release of “My Time,” Tyler shines, providing a taste of what’s to come in what looks like a bright future. In 2006, Young was inspired to produce music after witnessing Daft Punk‘s spaceship touch down in the Coachella Valley. Fast-forward nearly 15 years, and Young is releasing a high-energy dance track of his own. Albeit his first record release, Young has been DJing...
A song deep in Joe Strummer’s vaults has been unearthed. “Junco Partner” was a constant throughout Stummer’s career, and now “Junco Partner (Acoustic)” arrives ahead of Assembly, a newly remastered LP of The Clash frontman’s solo tracks. This intimate, previously unreleased home recording of “Junco Partner” features Strummer on an acoustic guitar and is available on all streaming services. The 16-track Assembly arrives March 26 via Dark Horse Records. Strummer first discovered the song on an R&B compilation in the 1970s and it became a staple on the setlist of Strummer’s first band, the 101ers, according to press materials. It was recorded by The Clash for the 1980 Sandinista! album in 1980 and it became a mainstay of live shows until the end of Joe’s career with his ban...
If you’ve been eagerly waiting for a new St. Vincent album since 2017’s award-winning Masseduction (and the reimagined versions of the album that followed it), you won’t have to wait much longer. Daddy’s Home, the sixth album from art rocker Annie Clark, will be out on May 14 on Loma Vista Recordings. But as Clark teased on social media earlier this week, fans won’t have to wait any longer to hear a sample of the new album. “Pay Your Way in Pain” is available immediately, and channels all of the unquestionably funky unique stylings that have made St. Vincent one of the biggest and best rock stars of the past decade. It also captures a vibe that’s distinctly the era of a New York City that’s long gone (1971-1975) when grit and grime ruled the day. Check out the new track belo...
Gucci model, COVID–anthem creator and punk Godfather Iggy Pop teamed with storied Hammond B-3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith to cover Donovan’s 1966 hit “Sunshine Superman.” The song will appear on Smith’s forthcoming album Breathe, which arrives March 26 on Blue Note. “I was playing with my trio at Arts Garage in Delray Beach in Florida,” Smith said a statement. “Iggy would come by and say he wanted to play with me. I let him play slaparoo and he loved it. He enjoyed playing with us. We thought about recording a few songs, so we went in with my trio backing us up, and it worked.” It is the companion album to Smith’s 2018 LP All in My Mind. Smith was a member of the George Benson quartet in the 1960s, and has performed with Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Etta James. The eight...
The ska-punk legends in The Mighty Mighty BossToneS (whose capitalization habits suggest that they’re fans of the Mocking SpongeBob meme) just announced their 11th studio album, When God Was Great, will be out on May 7 on Hellcat Records. Of course, the band most famous for never needing to knock on wood wasn’t about to tease fans with the announcement of a new album without dropping a new song, so the veterans also released “I DON’T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING.” Perhaps their caps lock got stuck while creating the new album’s tracklist, as all 15 tunes read like frontman Dicky Barrett is yelling them at you. “We were lightly writing songs before the insanity without any sort of timeline in mind. All of a sudden, the world changed and benchmark events in a very long career that we were lookin...
Vampire Weekend co-founder Rostam has shared the single “4Runner” and announced a new album, Changephobia, that is due out June 4 through his own Matsor Projects. Changephobia is his second solo album, following his 2017 debut, Half-Light. The tune “4Runner” joins previously released tracks “These Kids We Knew” and “Unfold You,” whose video featured actress Hari Nef. “This collection of songs is not celebrating a fear of change,” Rostam said in a statement. “Rather, it’s the opposite. It’s about who we are capable of becoming if we recognize these fears in ourselves and rise above them.” According to a release, Changephobia was influenced by 1950s Bebop and Nineties Neo-Psych, and lyrical topics include global warming (“These Kids We Knew”), sex (“Unfold You”) an...
James, who are best known for their 1993 hit “Laid,” has shared the song “All the Colours of You,“ the title track from their new album, All the Colours of You, which is out on June 4. The collection is the British band’s 16th album and follows 2018’s Living in Extraordinary Times. The album was produced by Grammy award-winner Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M., The Killers). “With all the shit that went down in 2020 this was a miraculous conception and another big jump forward for us on the back of the last three albums,” James frontman Tim Booth said in a statement. “I hope it reflects the colours of these crazy times. Sweet 16 is a proper album, no fillers and is up there with our best.” Bassist Jim Glennie added that he’s “pleased, proud and surprised by this record in equal amoun...
