Public Enemy Return to Def Jam With What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down
A few months after surprise releasing their “State of the Union (STFU)” single that was produced by DJ Premier, Public Enemy has finally announced their new album, What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down, their first album for Def Jam in more than 20 years. “Cultural Institutions are important. Being an integral part of one is an honor bestowed and to uphold,” Chuck D said in a statement. “Public Enemy songs are forever sonic prints in the sands of time. A former rap prodigy, the man born Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo is now a 23-year-old hip-hop vet. Zulu Man with Some Power is his third LP, as well as his Def Jam debut, made possible by the success of 2018’s Strings and Bling. Pylon Announce Box Set Featuring First Vinyl Pressings of Gyrate, Chomp in 35 Years
Art-rock heroes Pylon have announced a new 4xLP box set called simply Pylon Box. Due out November 6th via New West Records, the collection comes as the Athens, Georgia band celebrates the 40th anniversary of their debut album, Gyrate, which is included alongside their sophomore full-length, Chomp. Both remastered records are being pressed to vinyl for the first time in nearly 35 years, and are also available to stream now. Also tucked inside Pylon Box are a total of 18 previously unreleased tracks. That includes Pylon’s first-ever recording, Razz Tape, laid down at a session that predates their 1979 debut single, “Cool” b/w “Dub”. Way back in what feels like another lifetime — February of 2019, to be exact — 6ix9ine pled guilty to racketeering, firearm possession, and drug trafficking charges. Those are heavy counts, but he was sentenced to a mere 24 months in prison because of his cooperative attitude, which some have characterized as snitching. New York City trio Uniform have unleashed the title track from their upcoming new album, Shame, out September 11th on Sacred Bones. “Shame” follows on the heels of previous single “Delco”, showcasing the idiosyncratic blend of heavy music Uniform have honed for their latest LP.
