Katy Perry Blossoms on New Song “Daisies”: Stream
Katy Perry has entered the chat with her new song “Daisies.” It’s said to be the first official single from her as-yet untitled fifth album, which will be released August 14th via Capitol Records. Over a flower bed of acoustic guitar mixed with electropop, Perry sings an anthem of resilience and perseverance — speaking directly to those who “said I’m going nowhere… tried to knock me down.” The track was produced by The Monsters & Strangerz, known for their studio work with Halsey and Zedd. Future Premieres New Album High Off Life, Featuring Travis Scott, Drake: Stream
By his own standards, Future has had a relatively quiet year thus far. Now, the Atlanta-born rapper, who has released 14 projects since 2012, is back with No. 15. High Off Life is the name of Future’s brand new studio album, his eighth overall and the follow-up to 2019’s The Wizrd. Take a listen below via Apple Music or Spotify. But back in the early aughts, David Bowie was at the forefront of the interconnected age with his very own dial-up Internet service provider, BowieNet. In 1999, subscribing to the ISP was the only way to get your hands on Bowie’s live album LiveAndWell.com. Neil Young’s Unreleased 1975 Album Homegrown Finally Surfaces in June
Roughly 46 years after it was recorded, Neil Young‘s “lost” 1975 album Homegrown is finally getting released. The 12-track LP, which Young describes as “the unheard bridge between Harvest and Comes A Time,” arrives June 19th via Reprise Records. Homegrown was recorded between June of 1974 and January of 1975 with a studio band featuring Levon Helm, Ben Keith, Karl T. Himmel, Tim Drummond, Stan Szelest, and Robbie Robertson. Emmylou Harris also makes an appearance. Five of the tracks — “Love Is A Rose,” “Homegrown,” “White Line,” “Little Wing,” and “Star Of Bethlehem” — would find a home on other albums. Sharon Van Etten and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme have teamed up for a cover of Nick Lowe’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding.” You are probably familiar with Elvis Costello & the Attraction’s 1978 version of the song and Bill Murray performed it at during a karaoke sequence in 2003’s Lost in Translation. Anyway, Homme has been laying low, so this is his first new musical contribution in a bit, though he’s going to appear on the upcoming Run the Jewels album on a track with Mavis Staples. New Band Mrs. Piss (Chelsea Wolfe and Jess Gowrie) Announce Debut Album, Share Two New Songs: Stream
Mrs. Piss, courtesy of Grandstand Media Singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe and multi-instrumentalist Jess Gowrie have formed a new band, the sardonically dubbed Mrs. Piss. The duo’s debut album, Self-Surgery, is out May 29th, and they’ve shared two new songs, “Downer Surrounded by Uppers” and “Knelt”. Mrs. Piss reconciles a long musical relationship between Wolfe and Gowrie, who once played together in a band called Red Host in the early 2000s. The idea to form a new band came when the two were touring together for Wolfe’s 2017 album, Hiss Spun. The two singles showcase the duo’s sonic diversity and are more urgent and abrasive than Wolfe’s folk-tinged output. “Downer Surrounded by Uppers” is a ripping post-punk track while “Knelt” is a droning wall of sludge, slower but no less heavy. Behemoth have unveiled a cover of The Cure classic “A Forest” that will appear on an upcoming EP of the same name. The extreme metal band’s crushing take on the gothic track features guest vocals by Shining’s Niklas Kvarforth. The EP, A Forest, arrives on May 29th and features the studio cover of the Cure song, as well as a live version recorded during a December 2018 show in Behemoth’s home country of Poland. In addition, the EP contains two new original Behemoth songs — “Shadows ov Ea Cast Upon Golgotha” and “Evoerecording” — that are described by frontman Nergal as a continuation of the band’s 2018 album I Loved You at Your Darkest. Four Tet Remixes Caribou’s “Never Come Back”: Stream
Before recording his latest album, Suddenly, Caribou (aka Dan Snaith) had a collection of some 900 song ideas. As he told our own Kyle Meredith, he relied on friend and fellow electronic artist Four Tet (aka Kieran Hebden) as something of a sounding board to help whittle that stack of demos down to the album’s final 12 tracks. Now, Snaith has handed one of those songs, “Never Come Back”, back to Hebden to put his own spin on with a remix. The remix was originally debuted during Four Tet’s recent Boiler Room: Streaming from Isolation set. Where Caribou’s original version is a springy dance club number, Four Tet’s take pushes it into rave territory.
