Genre-bending artist KennyHoopla is back with a new single called “plastic door//” via Mogul Vision/Arista Records. He’s also shared homemade music video to go along with it. “plastic door//” is the second track we’ve heard from KennyHoopla’s upcoming EP, how will i rest in peace if I’m buried by a highway?//, which officially drops this Friday, May 15th. It follows “the world is flat and this is the edge//”. For such a short release, the EP is chalk-full of bangers, from indie pop swooners to disco-ready dances. There’s plenty to absorb, and thankfully you can get exclusive insight into KennyHoopla’s inspirations when he takes over the Consequence of Sound Instagram this Sunday. Musically, “plastic door//” sees KennyHoopla digging into yet another sub-genre. This time, he blends mell...

The 1975 Pay Tribute to Their Friends on New Song “Guys”: Stream

The 1975 are now just weeks away from the release of their new album, Notes on a Conditional Form. In anticipation, they’re sharing yet another single in “Guys”, and it’s dedicated to some very special people. While last month’s “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” saw Matt Healy indulge in salacious conversations with a significant other, today’s offering is focused entirely on the British band’s close buddies. Editors’ Picks “It came quite easy, that song,” Healy told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, “but I think I just wanted to write a love letter to friendship, as opposed to every love song being about our romantic relationships. I think that our friendships are obviously our most formative relationships.” He added, “So shout out to the homies.” Stream the smooth cut below, and then head h...

Inter Arma Cover Neil Young, Prince, Nine Inch Nails, and More on New Album Garbers Days Revisited

Metal band Inter Arma have announced a new covers album, Garbers Days Revisited, featuring renditions of songs by Neil Young, Prince, Tom Petty, Nine Inch Nails, and more. The band has offered a preview of the record with their heavy take on Young’s “Southern Man”. Recorded between tours for their 2019 album, Sulphur English, the covers LP sees Inter Arma lending their crushing amalgamation of doom, death metal, and psych to eight songs that have influenced them. They turn “Southern Man” — already one of Young’s crunchiest and heaviest numbers — into a sonic colossus. “Inter Arma as a whole are massive Neil Young fans,” the band commented in a press release. “‘Southern Man’ has been a staple of our live set for over a decade and we finally got around to putting it to tape. We hope you enjo...

slowthai Isn’t Messing Around on New Single “MAGIC”: Stream

slowthai capped off this past weekend with “ENEMY”, a rowdy single referencing his controversial stage antics at the NME Awards in February. Now just three days later, the British rapper is back with “MAGIC”, his second banging track of the week. Recorded earlier this year, the new single was produced by Kenny Beats, known for his acclaimed joint albums with Denzel Curry (UNLOCKED) and Rico Nasty (Anger Management). The two artists’ first official collaboration is out through Method Records and ASAP Rocky’s own AWGE imprint. As to be expected from slowthai, “MAGIC” is punctuated by the MC’s reliably fired up flow, which alternates between steady spitting and straight-up jumping-on-a-car-roof hollering. “I got the world in my hand,” he boasts in his opening verse, right before Kenny Beats d...

Clutch’s Neil Fallon Crushes AC/DC’s “Riff Raff” with Members of Cave In, Converge, and more: Watch

The folks over at Two Minutes to Late Night have delivered yet another stellar quarantine performance, with Clutch singer Neil Fallon leading a rousing cover of AC/DC’s “Riff Raff”. Like the previous videos in the “Bedroom Covers” series, the AC/DC performance features each musician performing from his own home. Interestingly enough, this series was conceived before the pandemic, and a few of the artists recorded and filmed their contributions as early as January. Two Minutes to Late Night host Gwarsenio Hall (aka Jordan Olds), a constant in all of these videos, sings and performs bass on the AC/DC cover. He’s joined by drummer Ben Koller (Converge, Mutoid Man), and guitarists Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man), Adam McGrath (Cave In, Wear Your Wounds), and Tom Draper (Carcass). Fa...

Alison Mosshart Unboxes Second Solo Single “It Ain’t Water”: Stream

After years of punching in the clock for both The Kills and The Dead Weather, frontwoman Alison Mosshart made her solo debut with last month’s single “Rise”. Assuring fans this isn’t a one-time affair, the frontman has returned with her second solo offering in “It Ain’t Water”. Both minimalistic and atmospheric in tone, the four-minute track sees Mosshart brooding quietly over lonesome guitar and wispy percussion. “I don’t know your name, but I like the way you look at me in that suspicious way,” she sings. According to a statement, the new song was recorded with veteran musician and producer Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Chris Cornell, PJ Harvey). “He’s such a talent and such a kind person. His mind is wide open,” Mosshart said of Johannes. “He understands and sees th...

Alison Mosshart Has Solo Dance Party in ‘It Ain’t Water’ Video

Following the release of her debut single “Rise” a few weeks ago, The Kills singer Alison Mosshart has shared “It Ain’t Water.” The new song is a slow burner with a video that sets the mood. Mosshart dances around herself in the foreground while a closeup of the rock artist is superimposed on the clip singing the track. She recorded the song with Alain Johannes (Queen of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey), which she said was a great experience. “Working with Alain on ‘It Ain’t Water’ was a blast,” Mosshart said in a statement. “He’s such a talent and such a kind person. His mind is wide open. He understands and sees the beauty in imperfection, magic moments, accidents- the soulful human stuff, and the spirited super-human hard to explain stuff that makes a song great. Working with him was...

Henry Jamison Shares the Origins of New Song with Lady Lamb “Orchardist”: Stream

Our new music feature Origins finds artists revealing some of the inspirations behind their latest track. Today, Henry Jamison discusses his collaborative with Lady Lamb, “Orchardist”. Musicians are often inspired by life on the road, whether it’s the fugacious sense of time, the yearning for familiar territory, or the distance from friends. For his own mini “road record,” Vermont folk artists Henry Jamison has taken a novel, two-pronged approach with his new EP, Tourism. Due out May 15th via Color Study, the five-track effort focuses lyrically on the “dissolution of self” that led to Jamison’s recent breakup. The strain was brought on by his life as a touring musician, a common story for those whose home is lined with pavement. But while being on the road can bring certain relationships t...

IDK and Rico Nasty Rep the DMV on New Single “495”: Stream

The NBA season is currently on hold, but fortunately there are many documentaries out there for fans to get their basketball fix. In addition to the hit Michael Jordan miniseries, The Last Dance, Kevin Durant’s new Showtime program Basketball County: In the Water will focus on hoopers from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region of the US. However, Basketball County also happens to feature some non-baller talent from that part of the country in rapper IDK, who was born and raised just 30 minutes south of Baltimore. IDK has been enlisted to be the music supervisor, composer, and narrator for the entire series. This is a huge opportunity for IDK, and he’s coming off the bench hot in his new role by dishing out a new single called “495”. Joining him on the track is a dream team of f...

Tkay Maidza Signs to 4AD, Drops New Banger “Shook”: Stream

Rising Australian rapper Tkay Maidza has inked a deal with legendary British indie label 4AD, currently home to artists like Grimes, The National, and Big Thief. It’s not a common destination for fledgling rappers, but Maidza, who recently collaborated with Baltimore experimentalist JPEGMAFIA, is no ordinary hip-hop artist. For proof of her refreshing approach to the genre, fans won’t have to look beyond her banging new single “Shook”. On the track, Maidza can be heard rapping with an elastic flow over a distinctly Missy Elliott-esque beat. The sonic parallel isn’t purely coincidental, either; “Shook” was actually produced by Dan Farber, who helmed the instrumental for Lizzo’s “Tempo” single featuring Elliott herself. Maidza’s cadence during the verse is also slightly reminiscent...

Lou Barlow Says Next Dinosaur Jr. Album Is Finished, Plays New Song: Watch

Late last year, bassist Lou Barlow revealed that Dinosaur Jr. were in the studio recording their next record. Now, relishing his role as the official Dino-leaker, Barlow has announced that the album is finished and mixed. What’s more, he’s premiered a new, currently untitled song. The news came from Barlow’s laundry room during a lockdown livestream performance on Monday. “We just finished mixing the Dinosaur Jr. record. Of course we did it remotely,” he said, adding that John Agnella had done the work alone in his North Carolina studio. “I have two songs that I contributed. I had three but I couldn’t finish the third one because of…” He gave a shrug that took in the general state of the world. “This. There’s been a lot of cancelled Dinosaur Jr. stuff, too, but we have a record so we have ...

The Beths Second-Guess the Future on New Single “I’m Not Getting Excited”: Stream

This summer, The Beths will return with a sophomore album called Jump Rope Gazers. After previewing the release with last month’s “Dying to Believe”, the New Zealand indie pop outfit is unboxing a new single in “I’m Not Getting Excited”. While musically a jumpy, driving number, its subject matter is about denying oneself the freedom to enjoy excitement and success — all because of constant second-guessing. In a statement, lead singer Elizabeth Stokes explained this case of imposter syndrome, “People always ask ‘are you excited!?’ and it’s a fair question, because exciting things do happen to us sometimes. Support slots, overseas tours, music releases. Stuff we’ve dreamed about for years. So the correct answer is always ‘yes.’ But the truth is that deep down there’s a tiny Liz saying, ‘don’...
