With so many new songs released in 2021, it’s difficult to remember all of them, let alone keep track of each one. So we made a playlist with as much dance music as we could find. At the beginning of 2021, I set out to make a single playlist to house as much of the electronic dance music released in the year as I could. With help from the Reddit EDM community and multiple other sources, I was able to gather over 2,000 songs in one playlist, all released last year. Check out this massive playlist below, throw it on shuffle, and enjoy endless music for days. The recent news of Skream and Benga‘s momentous 2022 return is worth celebrating in and of itself, but there’s apparently more to the duo’s revival than meets the eye. The dubstep legends recently set the music community ablaze with the announcement that they’ll be reuniting after over a decade. Revered for their seminal influences on the genre, Skream and Benga last collaborated on music back in 2003, when they released “The Judgement” before eventually joined forces in 2011 for a captivating BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Fanning the flames of the reunion, Skream shared a tweet in late December noting that two new songs had been completed. Responding to a post published by EDM.com on January 8th to share our reporting of the unreleased songs, the Croy...
After releasing three singles to give fans a taste of what’s to come, Daniel Allan has finally released his Overstimulated EP in its entirety. Overstimulated offers a transparent look into Allan’s headspace and creative process across its six tracks, each of which feels more heartfelt than the last. Additionally, he’s tapped a handful of talented collaborators to join in on his forward-thinking, pop-oriented sound including Idarose, DEEGAN, DLG., and bloody white. “Overstimulated is a project that comments on my personal journey and its overwhelming nature,” Allan said. “When life gets hectic, my primary coping mechanism is to lock myself in a room and work it out with music. Sometimes I don’t really know how to communicate, so I suppose this proje...
The relationship between Pegboard Nerds and Monstercat is the gift that keeps on a giving. The Scandinavian bass music duo are longtime favorites of the Monstercat faithful, releasing music on the powerhouse indie electronic music label at a dizzying pace over the course of the last decade. Tracks like 2012’s “Disconnected” and 2016’s “Weaponize” continue to be rinsed by their dance music contemporaries in DJ sets and music festival performances. Pegboard Nerds have now returned to Monstercat with a riveting single called “Shine,” which arrives under the imprint’s “Uncaged” banner. A drum & bass banger, the new track was produced in collaboration with fellow electronic music duo Sophon, the side project of...
“The purpose of my music is to exemplify my truths,” said Moore Kismet in a recent press release. “That’s what my music has always been for me: a way to get my stories and my thoughts out.” And they mean it—at only 17 years old, the prodigious producer is already known for wearing their heart on their sleeve. Now, as they enter a self-proclaimed “next chapter,” it’s clear that this guiding philosophy is here to stay. Kicking off this era is “Parallel Heartbreak” (with Pauline Herr), a fluttering melodic trap ballad which expresses the fear of heartbreak that comes with the embrace of new love. The song dropped today, January 7th, via Thrive Music. “Parallel Heartbreak” begins with a sublime arrangement of plucks, which are s...
Seven Lions and Jason Ross are kicking off 2022 the right way, releasing their hotly anticipated collaborative EP See You Again by way of the former’s Ophelia Records imprint. Seven Lions and Jason Ross have both long been known for their versatility as music producers, and their skill sets are on full display this time around. Clocking in at just two tracks, they’ve executed each song perfectly while staying true to the sound that’s shaped Ophelia since its launch. The duo embraces the soaring synths fans have grown accustomed to all while cultivating a brooding feel. The titular “See You Again” features elegant vocals from Fiora accompanied by a rich, lush soundscape. Her vocals drive listeners all the way to the heartfelt drop, enveloping them in waves of c...
Way back in 2021, Maren Morris received a pretty strong billing on the 2022 version of Stagecoach. Morris is the second name in bold on Friday night (opening night), which implied (subtly) that something new was (is?) on the way. We got our first taste of what’s to come when she shared “Circles Around This Town.” It’s her first song since her second album, 2019’s Girl, and references songs like “80s Mercedes” and “My Church.” Here’s what she had to say about the song and elaborated on its meaning. “I could see the visuals for ‘Circles Around This Town’ the moment I wrote the song. I’ve always been so inspired by the industrial, blown out colors of music videos from the 90s, so Harper Smith and I wanted the aesthetics of this video to reflect that grainy, devil-may-care attitude of all my f...
It’s been almost three years since Denzel Curry last released an album. In the interim, he’s released a pair of Record Store Day singles. The 2020 edition featured Curry covering Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name.” On Wednesday, Curry shared a trailer for his fifth studio album. Titled Melt My Eyes See Your Future, the teaser sees Curry roaming through a desert, with clues to who will collaborate with him. Those names include T-Pain, Slowthai, 6lack, Rico Nasty, Kenny Beats, JPEGMAFIA, Thundercat, Robert Glasper (who joined forces with Curry on his 2021 RSD single) and more. Curry didn’t share information on a release date. However, the captain to the YouTube video read as follows: MELT MY EYEZ SEE YOUR FUTURE… COMING TO A STEREO NEAR YOU. There’s a lot to look forward to in electronic dance music in 2022, but one of the year’s most anticipated albums is coming sooner than later. Dubstep superstar Excision is set to drop his fifth album, Onyx, next week. Considering its his first since 2018’s Apex, enthusiasm from around the bass music community is at a fever pitch, especially after he unveiled a brilliant new single today. Excision has teamed up with fellow electronic music virtuoso Dion Timmer and promising singer-songwriter Alexis Donn (under her EDM alias, Donna Tella) for “End Of The World,” a stunning melodic bass tune. The track falls in line with the euphoric style of the “Dawn” vertical of Subsidia, Excision’s record label, which launched in late 2020 wi...
You probably haven’t heard Swedish House Mafia quite like this before. The veteran electronic music trio have joined forces with Swedish compatriot Jacob Mühlrad for “One Symphony,” a classical rework of one of the most prized singles in their discography. Mühlrad, one of the most renowned composers in Scandinavia, has reimagined the generational dance anthem through an orchestral lens. Swedish House Mafia released “One” way back in July 2010, when its inescapable melody helped catapult the group to the upper echelon of electronic music. And the new orchestral arrangement, the group said, harkens back to those days due to the way it was originally composed. “When we first created ‘One’ we created it like an orche...
With a new album on the horizon, Alison Wonderland is primed for a monster year. And she’s wasted no time in 2022, unveiling a brand new single called “Fear of Dying” alongside an intimate music video. “Fear of Dying” taps into her trap music roots, using brass stabs and frenetic arpeggios in its sublime drops. Directed by Brandon Dermer, who has worked with Dillon Francis and Panic! at the Disco, among others, the woozy video follows a whirling Wonderland as she wanders through a city in a catatonic state. The music video, one of the most gripping of her career, takes a dark turn at its coda, when she is kidnapped—by herself. Here Wonderland is as captivating as she is haunting, twisting the knife into her dualities. Check out the “Fear o...
