With a handful of singles already under his belt for 2021, Gene Farris has decided to keep the new music flowing with his latest single, “Mr Everybody.” Out August 27th via the artist’s Farris Wheel Recordings banner, “Mr Everybody” is a scintillating house rework of 1993 R&B hit “Hey Mr. D.J.” by Zhané. It features a sample of the track’s instantly recognizable vocals, underlaid with a smooth and sexy club drop and four on the floor beat. Pulsing percussion lines and reverberating synths build tension, while low-toned chords and a bouncing bass line add depth and mystery. “Mr Everybody” comes just in time for the one year anniversary of Farris’ “Carnival” livestream, which is ...
Following a string of releases earlier this year, house music duo Anti Up are blasting off with their third single of 2021. The duo—comprising Chris Lake and Chris Lorenzo—have concocted a modish, out-of-this-world banger with “Something’s About to go down.” Immediately after pressing play, the track hurls you into the cosmos accompanied by the familiar four-on-the-floor opener. A voice mysteriously distorts as it warns you “something’s about to go down,” followed by the funkiest, alien-robot beats found anywhere outside this earth. The remaining three minutes are an acid trip-esque production of eccentric sounds and quirky synths. The concoction comes to a dramatic climax as the bionic, extraterrestrial drop descends upon earth ready to wreak havoc...

True to form, Louis Futon brought out some flute, saxophone, and trumpet to christen the announcement of his long-awaited sophomore album. The multi-genre producer incorporated all those wind instruments in his funky new track “Ron Burgundy,” which is of course named after Will Ferrell’s iconic character from the Anchorman films. Quickly moving past a gentle intro, Futon uncorks a groovy bassline before a fluttering flute takes center stage. What follows is a medley of trumpet, sax, and bass that offers danceable energy with a jazz fusion twist. In a press release, Futon spoke about the track’s inspiration and how his vision required help from two instrumentalists. “[‘Ron Burgundy]’ originally started from sampling an old song ...

They released “Loving Every Minute” today via Garrix’s STMPD Records alongside an official music video. “Loving Every Minute” maintains the synergy between Garrix and Maejor, though this tune takes an even more laid-back route. If we’re not counting last year’s The Waterfall II (since it was really just made up of leftovers from The Waterfall that vocalist Jim James put together while he was in quarantine), then My Morning Jacket hasn’t released a new album since the Obama administration. Seeing as the world is a pretty different place now compared to 2015, it only seems appropriate for James, Tom Blankenship, and the rest of the indie rock group to put out a new album that fits the times. On Oct. 22, My Morning Jacket will do just that. The band’s ninth album (including The Waterfall II) will be a self-titled work released through ATO Records, and we’ve already got a glimpse into what it’ll sound like. The band released the new album’s first single, “Regularly Scheduled Programming,” today alongside th...
Caleb Peters is a young singer-songwriter who has been on a musical journey for the past five years. Hailing from Detroit, the promising 18-year-old artist officially released his first original track in 2019 and has since been discovered by millions thanks in part to a viral TikTok cover of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather.” 2020 was a solid year for Peters, as his music career began to pick up steam with the release of “Carousel,” a bubbly indie-pop jam. It earned a coveted placement on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, and another soon after with fabled lifestyle brand Urban Outfitters, who incorporated the catchy tune into an advertisement. Peters eventually tapped 25-year-old Orange County producer Devault to rework ...
In 2006, R&B group Cherish released “Do It To It,” which topped the charts for over five months and became a defining song of the noughties. Fast-forward to Friday, when Orlando-based DJ and producer ACRAZE released his highly anticipated rework via Thrive Music—and it’s on track to be the biggest crossover hit of the summer. In a victorious moment a few weeks ago, DJ Snake brought ACRAZE on stage at Brooklyn Mirage and hailed the track as “the song of the summer” before dropping it for a rowdy crowd. With a pulsing bassline and head-bopping drums, the tune is addictive. The beat syncs up perfectly with the catchy and nostalgic vocal hook, making it impossible not to sing and dance along. It’s one of those rare songs that compels the whole crowd to bounce and groove. Way bef...
