Pope says Canada school discovery painful, but stops short of apology

Pope Francis said on Sunday that he was pained by the discovery of the remains of 215 children at a former Catholic school for indigenous students in Canada and called for respect for the rights and cultures of native peoples. However, Francis stopped short of the direct apology some Canadians had demanded. Two days ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the Catholic Church must take responsibility for its role in running many of the schools. Indigenous leaders and school survivors said the Church needed to do much more. “We’re all pained and saddened. Who isn’t?” said Bobby Cameron, chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations in Saskatchewan. Speaking to pilgrims and tourists in St. Peter’s Square for his weekly blessing, Francis urged Canadian political and Catholic...

Appearing on the June 4th episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the comedian explained why being thoughtful about language can actually be a positive thing in the world of comedy. “If you asked all of the people that didn’t make it to the NBA, if you asked them if we just lowered the goal down another foot,” he said, “they would all tell you they’d make it. Nobody likes the out of bounds, but the out of bounds gotta be there. Or you’ll run up in the stands, right? So some of these things are for the benefit of everything. Nobody likes the speed limit, b...

2021 Kia Niro EV Adds More Features, Keeps Same Price

For 2021, Kia adds some new standard features to its late-arriving electric vehicle—and that’s pretty much it. The Niro isn’t exactly topping any sales charts, so a car that’s mostly a carryover makes sense. The new standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (the previous car made do with a wired iteration of the system), standard rear-occupant alert, and a remote start function that allows you to preheat or pre-cool the vehicle. Kia also adds some new safety kit to the Niro EV for 2021. Now included is Kia’s DriveWise suite of driver assist systems, which includes leading vehicle departure alert, Level 2 driving assist, and navigation-based adaptive cruise control. Just as before, the standard Niro EV EX starts at $40,265, while the EX P...

Drake Playfully Trolls Warriors’ Klay Thompson With Hilarious Viral Boat Video Reenactment

“Shout-out Drake, Artist of the Decade,” Thompson says while steering the boat. “Man, that’s impressive. We had a little beef, we had the city turned up. That’s my last taste of hooch, man. NBA Finals, I miss it. There’s nothing like the finals, yo. Nothing like it.” In the lead-up to the NBA Finals in 2019, where the Warriors battled against Drake’s hometown Raptors, Thompson joked that he wouldn’t be listening to Drizzy’s “soft R&B songs” during the series. The two exchanged some more playful trash talk during the finals, which ended in the Raptors winning its first NBA championship. Watch Drake’s reenactment of Thompson’s viral boat video below. Taylor Swift’s ‘Evermore’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

Evermore was last No. 1 five months ago, on the Jan. 16-dated chart. It’s the first album to wait that long between weeks at No. 1 since last November, when Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get returned to No. 1 after nearly a year. Evermore was released in December 2020 and spent its first two weeks at No. 1, on the charts dated Dec. 26, 2020 and Jan. 2, 2021. Evermore’s 74-1 move is the biggest positional jump to No. 1 since the Jan. 19, 2008, chart, when Radiohead’s In Rainbows flew 156-1 after street date violation sales pushed it onto the chart a week early. It’s worth noting that since In Rainbows hit No. 1, three albums have re-entered the chart at No. 1: Chris Stapleton’s Traveller (Nov. 21, 2015), Prince’s The Very Best of Prince (May 7, 2016) and Bon Jovi’s This House Is Not ...

Clarence Williams III, Prince’s Father in ‘Purple Rain,’ Dies at 81

On the big screen, the Harlem native portrayed Prince’s troubled father in Purple Rain (1984) and was Wesley Snipes and Michael Wright’s drug-addled dad in Sugar Hill (1993). In Giuseppe Tornatore’s The Legend of 1900 (1998), Williams tapped into his family’s musical roots to appear as jazz legend Jelly Roll Morton. Known for his prodigious afro and gap-toothed smile, Williams also worked regularly with famed director John Frankenheimer, first on Elmore Leonard’s 52 Pick-Up (1986) and then on The General’s Daughter (1999), Reindeer Games (2000) and two telefilms, the Attica-set Against the Wall in 1994 and George Wallace in 1997. Williams also displayed a flair of comedy, playing a former leader of the People’s Revolutionary Army in Keenen Ivory Wayans’ blaxploitation parody I’m Gonna Git ...

Taylor Swift Is ‘In My Feelings’ Over ‘Evermore’ Returning to No. 1 on Billboard 200

“This one hit me hard,” she wrote. “I’m so in my feelings (more so than usual!) over what you all did here for evermore. Blown away by how much you care, and how long we’ve been caring about each other. Love you, so very much.” Swift included four red heart emojis in her tweet — which, naturally, had fans putting on their detective hats in the comments. (Is it just a random way to show her love for Swifties, or could it be a hint that the re-recording of Red, her fourth studio album, is near?) Billboard reported earlier that Evermore’s sales surge was fueled by the set’s modern-era record-breaking vinyl LP sales, autographed CDs and discounting on the digital version of the album. Evermore last held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 on the Jan. 16-date...

This time around, the singer gives the King Crimson guitarist an eyeful during their cover of the ZZ Top classic “Sharp Dressed Man”. The couple’s covers have always combined sexuality with comedy, and this one is no different, except for the fact that Robert “ain’t missing not a single thing” when Toyah pops open her “clean shirt” to bare all in front of the prog-rock legend, as he reacts with the all the expected facial expressions. As is the case with the pair’s previous several “Sunday Lunch” performances, the...
