Jack White, who earlier in the day shared that he’d be playing a guitar designed by Eddie Van Halen, performed a pair of popular songs from his catalog on Saturday Night Live. With a White Stripes greatest hits collection on the way, White performed a stomping version of “Ball and Biscuit” that was interspliced with Beyonce’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and Blind Willie Johnson’s “Jesus Is Coming Soon,” a song about the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. White was a last-minute addition to the SNL itinerary, replacing Morgan Wallen. The rising country star was kicked off the show for violating COVID-19 protocol after footage surfaced of him partying, unmasked, at a University of Alabama football game last weekend. He was joined by bassist Dominic Davis and Daru Jones on drums. “My actions...
We’ve been waiting years for Mazda to bring back its rotary engine, and now, it’s finally happening—albeit not in a sports car such as a revived RX-7 as we hoped. Instead, in an expected move, the first modern Mazda to get a rotary engine is the MX-30 electric crossover. In it, the smooth-running engine will act as a range extender (basically, a fuel-fed generator to extend the MX-30’s driving range between charging stations). This head-rotating information comes directly from Mazda President and CEO Akira Marumoto. In the video below, Marumoto confirms that automaker will bring out early copies of the rotary assisted model next year. Expect the final MX-30 EV to hit Japan in 2022. Mazda introduced its first production rotary engine in 1967, having licensed Wankel technol...
In celebration of the new website, Wallace penned a poignant open letter on her experience as a loving mother of a child who struggled with mental health, and how she hopes other parents can feel inspired by her words, and learn that “you do not have to suffer alone.” “If we can help even one Mother and their son or daughter through our work here, Jarad’s death will have meaning and his positive, loving, creative spirit will endure,” she wrote. Read it in full below. Jarad and I were always close. We liked to play pinball together. We had long conversations about his future and about the world in general. But like any mother and son, we had our issues. Jarad came from a family where academics were the highest priority, so I wanted him to focus on school, but he...
On Saturday (Oct. 10), Tommy Brown — better known as Grammy-nominated producer TBHits — shared a throwback photo with Ariana Grande from October 2018. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline receives a testosterone makeover, morphing from a friendly-looking pickup truck to one that exudes more ruggedness and capability. This is step one of Honda’s new light truck strategy of beefing up—and talking up—the capabilities of its utility vehicles in a world eschewing passenger cars at a rapid pace. Look for the brand’s SUVs to follow suit, too. Honda has not kept up with the trends. Today, light trucks account for 70 percent of new-vehicle sales in the United States. Light trucks, however, account for just 53 percent of Honda’s sales mix. The Japanese automaker still relies heavily on cars, especially those of its Civic and Accord model lines. The redesigned 2021 Ridgeline, which goes on sale early next year, kicks off the br...

He recalled joining the band in 1988, releasing their first album in 1992 and starting to work on Tragic Kingdom in 1993 while they were in college. “What I remember most is that despite the challenges, it was a very creative and magical time,” he said. “Gwen, Adrian, Tony and I had real chemistry as bandmates and collaborators, and we discovered our voices as we wrote & recorded those songs together. I appreciate the friendships and camaraderie we shared in those years. We were passionate about our music, and the fact that Tragic Kingdom has touched so many people around the world is beyond what I could have ever imagined.” “Sometimes great things fall apart, which is a shame,” said Dumont. “Yet here we are, 25 years later. It is what it is, &...
Thalía took her music career to the next level with 1995’s En Éxtasis, her first album in a long partnership with EMI Latin. Lovato added, “And you know what, they’re gonna change too!!! AND I’LL BE OKAY WITH THAT AS WELL!! But let this be a lesson y’all.. our bodies will do what they are SUPPOSED to when we let go of trying to control what it does for us. Oh the irony.” The singer has spoken about her history with body image issues in the past. “I used to have people watching me the night before a photo shoot to make sure that I didn’t binge or eat and be swollen the next day,” she said in an interview over the summer. “It’s just a totally different world now.” In an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year, she revealed, “I struggled really hard with an eating disorder, yes, and that was my primary problem. … I just felt like my li...

Jack White may not have much time to prepare for his Saturday Night Live performance tonight, but he found a touching way to honor Eddie Van Halen nonetheless. On the eve of his last-minute performance, White shared a post on social media revealing that he’ll be playing a guitar designed by the late legend. “i thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue eddie van halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL,” White wrote alongside a few photos of the instrument. “the guitar was designed by eddie (with a few customizations i had added). eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs.” The tribute begins and ends with the guitar, though, so don’t expect a Van Halen cover. “i wont [sic] even insult the man’s talent by tr...
