Bon Iver Tap Jenny Lewis, Bruce Springsteen for New Song ‘AUATC’

Just days after a mega-feature on Taylor Swift’s Folklore, Justin Vernon surprise-released a new Bon Iver song on Wednesday. The group’s latest, “AUATC” (or “Ate Up All Their Cake”), features a high-profile team of musicians, including Bruce Springsteen and Jenny Lewis on backing vocals. The track’s music video — which was created, produced and directed by Bon Iver collaborators Aaron Anderson and Eric Timothy Carlson — was shot in New York and features “dance and movement” from Randall Riley. Along with the track, billed as the “second episode” of Bon Iver’s “Season Five,” following April’s “PDLIF,” Bon Iver encouraged fans to “fight capitalism” and laid out some organizations...

Watch Metallica and San Francisco Symphony’s Performance of ‘Moth Into Flame’ From S&M2

With only weeks until the release of S&M2, Metallica shared a high-octane performance of “Moth Into Flame” from the live concert movie. For the song, which first appeared on the 2016 double-LP, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, both James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett take their guitar solos off the stage and into the symphonic section — giving those who were at the show that night the 360-degree experience. Metallica have previously shared “Nothing Else Matters” and “All Within My Hands,” along with the trailer, which teases interviews with the band and classical music directors. S&M2 was filmed in 2019 on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8 at the Chase Center in San Francisco — the arena’s first-ever concerts. The sets reunited Metallica with the symphony after their 1999 collaboration...

Excision and Wooli Announce “Evolution EP” Remix Pack and Release Date

They also shared one of the project’s remixes from MadReckless. Excision and Wooli released their collaborative Evolution EP back in September 2019, dropping a 4-track bass bomb on their loyal fanbases. The record tied a bow on months of anticipation following the record’s teasing in many of their live shows. The dubstep dynamos have now announced a remix pack for Evolution, and Excision took to Instagram to rhapsodize about the project. “Headbangers! [Wooli] & I are dropping Evolution EP: The Remixes on Aug 18th!!” he wrote.  The bundle, which is slated for an August 18th release, features two free bonus reworks in addition to the currently unannounced official remixes. One of those free downloads, a screeching dubstep rendition of Evolution cut ...

New York’s Crackdown on Illicit Raves Continues with Arrests of “Floating Nightclub” Organizers

The owners of the Liberty Belle have been arrested for violating New York City’s social distancing provisions and ban on large gatherings. The owners of the Liberty Belle, a boat that hosted an illicit nautical party on August 2nd, 2020, have been arrested for violating New York City’s social distancing provisions and ban on large gatherings in light of COVID-19. Following a tip-off to police, the “floating nightclub,” a four-level, 600-capacity vessel which contained 172 partygoers, was seized roughly two hours after it embarked from Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan.  The boat’s owners, Ronny Vargas and Alex Suazo, have been arrested for organizing the illegal event and running a bar without a liquor license. “I want the business in New Yor...

Patti Smith to Hold Special Virtual Performance and Book Reading

Patti Smith will hold a special performance featuring music and a reading of excerpts from her most recent memoir, Year of the Monkey. Filmed by acclaimed cinematographer Matthew Schroeder, “An Evening of Words & Music With Patti Smith” will take place at the Murmrr Theatre in Brooklyn. Aside from the book reading, Smith will play a brief set with her longtime bandmate Tony Shanahan. This isn’t the only livestream Smith has participated in this year. Earlier today, Smith paid tribute to her son, Jackson, on his birthday. In January, she penned a special poem to...

This 36K-Mile 1976 AMC Hornet Sportabout Is Preserved Malaise-Era “Luxury”

Sometimes you’re looking for a time capsule, not a track time. If you’re longing to spend some time in a bygone era, there’s not a lot that encapsulates the mid-1970s quite like an AMC product. And this Hornet Sportabout is basically a leisure suit dripping with disco sweat, sporting a Jimmy Carter campaign button and ready to dig into an open-face meatloaf and mashed-potato sandwich. Unlike many trends from an oft-mocked decade, however, this AMC (being offered up over at Hemmings Auctions) looks like it’ll endure. There are just 36,000 miles on the clock, and that’s barely broken in for the 258-cubic-inch inline-six, as it’s an engine with a legendary reputation for longevity if not outright power. The “deluxe” interior is described as like-new and looks it, although its vast plast...

Surprise! The Mazda MX-30 Will Launch As a Hybrid, Not an EV

Mazda has fallen behind in the race to bring electric vehicles to market, but last year at the Tokyo Motor Show the Japanese automaker finally revealed its first-ever EV, the MX-30. Production of the sleek electric crossover was said to begin in 2020, but it looks like that timing might have been pushed back. Instead, the MX-30 is launching with a hybrid variant in Japan this fall. Described as a mild hybrid, the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv-G utilizes a direct-injected 2.0-liter gas engine paired with an “M Hybrid” electric motor that assists the four-cylinder when needed. Mazda says the MX-30 hybrid is part of a strategy to offer optimum powertrain options to serve a given region’s wants and needs. As we previously reported, the Mazda MX-30 EV will launch in Europe first to m...

Former Machine Head/Crowbar Drummer Tony Costanza Dies at 52

Former Machine Head/Crowbar drummer Tony Costanza has died at age 52. The news was confirmed by former Crisis bandmate guitarist Afzaal Deen, who paid tribute on Tuesday (Aug. 4) writing, “It is with a very heavy heart that I have to accept and inform everyone concerned that I lost my brother, band mate, home boy and family today. Tony Costanza was one of a kind. A man with a huge heart, love and loyalty for the ones close to him. I cannot relate to this reality of loss yet. I know he had a lot of admirers, and I was one of his biggest. He would have literally taken a bullet for me. Thats the kind of gangster brother he was. Tony died in his sleep this morning so I am sure he was at peace and in no pain.” At press time, no cause of death was available. Deen also posted a GoFund...

Marshmello Is One of the Most Adaptable Stars in Modern Music — And the Charts Prove It

Let’s start with a clunky but (arguably) relevant comparison, and say that while marshmallows seem to have only one fairly specific use as a food, the pillowy treats go well with a number of other desserts, and are enjoyed by a wide and diverse segment of humanity. The same can be said of the EDM producer named for and styled in homage to these fireside snacks. Since emerging in the EDM scene circa 2015, Marshmello has become a dominant brand not only in mainstream dance music, but in a grab bag of genres including hip-hop, rock, pop and country. Having worked with everyone from Tyga and Chris Brown to Chvrches to Svdden Death and Blackbear to Kane Brown to Bastille, the artist has scored hits on Billboard’s Hot 100, Country Songs, Rap Songs, Alternative Songs, Rock & Alter...

Gabby Barrett Brings Out Husband Cade Foehner For Billboard Live At-Home Performance

Gabby Barrett brought out her husband Cade Foehner for an intimate Billboard Live At-Home performance Wednesday (Aug. 5) to raise money for MusiCares. Foehner played an instrumental part during the couple’s set, when he sang alongside Barrett while playing the acoustic guitar, but he also played his part as her muse for her radio sensation “The Good Ones.” “This song was written about this man beside me,” the 20-year-old country star said. “I was just thinking back to when him and I were dating during American Idol at the time. And some of my family members would just ask me, be like, ‘Oh, how’s your boyfriend doing?’ and I’d be like, ‘Oh, he’s good. He’s a good one, he’s a keeper.’… Not every s...

Lady Gaga Announces ‘Gaga Radio’ Show on Apple Music

As an ode to those who gave life to her latest No. 1 album, Lady Gaga — who has proven time and time again that she can do anything — is starting a new radio show on Apple Music. “Gaga Radio,” which is set to premiere its first episode on Friday, will feature appearances from some of the producers and DJs behind Chromatica, along with a few of the dance music legends who inspired the now-VMA-nominated work. Her first episode will feature an interview with producer and close collaborator BloodPop, discussing the challenges that came along with putting the record together. “The last few weeks I’ve been figuring out different ways at home that I can be of service to what I would call the singular global community, one that I believe to be kind in nature, on...
